    Letter from the Editor

Nearly two years ago, the newly-formed ICCTE editorial team sat around a conference table and tried to come up with ideas for how to generate increased interest and submissions to the journal. We wanted to invite authors into a shared space of collaboration, encouragement, and sustainability. Story proved to be the vehicle; we designed a call inviting our colleagues to share stories about their experiences in the classroom that would be shorter and less formal than an average article. We imagined that this invitation might offer our colleagues a chance to reflect on the moments of education that seem most pertinent and pivotal, to share from the heart about the things that make education both challenging and meaningful. We drafted the call, shared it with our webmaster, Josiah, and published it with hopes that we might generate some interest

Scholarship and Ministry in the Life and Thought of Augustine

    Get PDF
Augustine is frequently recognized as one of the greatest Christian theologians in all of church history. His influence extends to both Protestant and Catholic circles, and his numerous theological works are still referenced by today\u27s students of theology. The context of his theological writings are often overlooked. While he did, on occasion, seek to write weighty and intricate theological works, his primary focus was upon better equipping himself to minister to the believers he served as the bishop of Hippo. This is clearly evidenced in his sermons and his letters, which provide an important window into his historical context

The Morphology and Histology of New Sex Pheremone Glands in Male Scorpionflies, Panorpa and Brachypanorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpidae and Panorpodidae)

    Get PDF
The n~orphology and histology of a previously undescribed sex pheromone gland in male scorpionflies of the genus Panorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpidae) and a morphologically similar gland in Brachypanorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpodidae) are described and discussed. The gland and the associated pheromone dispersing structure consist of an eversible pouch that lies in the ventral part of the male genital bulb at the point where the basistyles diverge. The glandular layer of epithelium is composed of three types of cells that vary in size between species of Panorpa and between Panorpa and Brachyponorpa. It is suggested that the gland may have evolved from a structure that is everted by the male during copulation and used to push the female\u27s terminal abdominal segments out of the way and/or open the female genital aperture

    Emotional Doubt and Divine Hiddenness

    Get PDF
This essay will seek to develop a possible model for addressing the existential problem of divine hiddenness and the emotional doubt that it might cause in the life of a believer. In doing so, it will identify several potential root causes for the experience of the existential problem of divine hiddenness and attempt to guide a hurting individual through dealing with their doubt by applying misbelief therapy

Process and apparatus for growing a crystal ribbon

    Get PDF
A process and apparatus is disclosed for growing a crystal ribbon of a substance of theoretically infinite length from a melt of the substance. A pair of fixedly positioned edge defining members are partially submerged into the melt so as to break the surface of the melt at a predetermined distance from one another. The edge defining members are wettable by the melt and the predetermined distance substantially corresponds to the width of the crystal ribbon to be grown. The crystal ribbon is grown by contacting the surface of the melt with a seed ribbon between the edge defining members whereby a meniscus of the melt is established on the seed ribbon. The meniscus is stabilized by the meniscus of the melt on the edge defining members. Pulling the seed crystal ribbon away from the melt results in continuous growth of the crystal ribbon

Supercritical fluid recycle for surge control of CO2 centrifugal compressors

AbstractThis paper presents computer-based design and analysis of control systems for centrifugal compressors when the operating fluid is supercritical CO2.It reports a non-linear dynamic model including a main forward compression line and two different configurations for the recycle antisurge line. Disturbance scenarios are proposed for testing the configurations and performance indicators are suggested to evaluate control performance and power consumption of the compression system. The paper demonstrates that compared to the hot recycle, the process configuration including a cold gas recycle has better overall stability, but higher power consumption and lower values for the control performance indicators. Based on the previous considerations, the paper gives suggestions regarding the choice of the recycle configuration. Moreover it compares subcritical and supercritical compression during surge prevention and highlights the importance of the selection of the gas recycle configuration when full recycle is needed
