A bioregion in the Anthropocene: a systemic vision of the Ile-de-France metropolis
Today, urban morphologies respond to the de-contextualized and functional rules of the machines civilization and fossil fuels where the territory is no more than a simple technical support. So far, the dynamic of metropolises has been based on the import of ghost acreage, that is to say of distant energies and materials. In giving the measure of the acceleration of the Earth transformation caused by industrial societies, this unprecedented era suggests a change of temporal and spatial scale, a systemic shift. The need to connect with the local implies contextualizing the urban and the suburban in the living beings and the immediate resources, in particular water and energy. The challenge is to bring out elements of restoration, in the form of bioregional ecological niches, within the global metropolization and its future exoduses
On Long-Range Order in Low-Dimensional Lattice-Gas Models of Nematic Liquid Crystals
The problem of the orientational ordering transition for lattice-gas models
of liquid crystals is discussed in the low-dimensional case . For
isotropic short-range interactions, orientational long-range order at finite
temperature is excluded for any packing of molecules on the lattice ; on
the other hand, for reflection-positive long-range isotropic interactions, we
prove existence of an orientational ordering transition for high packing () and low temperatures ().Comment: 11 page
Holographic Thermalization
Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we probe the scale-dependence of
thermalization in strongly coupled field theories following a quench, via
calculations of two-point functions, Wilson loops and entanglement entropy in
d=2,3,4. In the saddlepoint approximation these probes are computed in AdS
space in terms of invariant geometric objects - geodesics, minimal surfaces and
minimal volumes. Our calculations for two-dimensional field theories are
analytical. In our strongly coupled setting, all probes in all dimensions share
certain universal features in their thermalization: (1) a slight delay in the
onset of thermalization, (2) an apparent non-analyticity at the endpoint of
thermalization, (3) top-down thermalization where the UV thermalizes first. For
homogeneous initial conditions the entanglement entropy thermalizes slowest,
and sets a timescale for equilibration that saturates a causality bound over
the range of scales studied. The growth rate of entanglement entropy density is
nearly volume-independent for small volumes, but slows for larger volumes.Comment: 39 pages, 24 figure
DIFFUSIVE TRANSPORT IN A ONE DIMENSIONAL DISORDERED POTENTIAL INVOLVING CORRELATIONS
This article deals with transport properties of one dimensional Brownian
diffusion under the influence of a correlated quenched random force,
distributed as a two-level Poisson process. We find in particular that large
time scaling laws of the position of the Brownian particle are analogous to the
uncorrelated case. We discuss also the probability distribution of the
stationary flux going through a sample between two prescribed concentrations,
which differs significantly from the uncorrelated case.Comment: 9 pages, figures are not include
Bioregions in the Anthopocene : a way to repair territories
Today, urban morphologies respond to the decontextualized and functional rules of thecivilization of machines and fossil fuels where the territory is no more than a simple technicalsupport. Quelles réponses face à l'urgence? Enjeux environnementaux et démocratie
// Conférence - débat participatif //
