Towards the finite-volume spectrum of the Roper resonance

The finite-volume energy levels corresponding to the Roper resonance based on a two-flavor chiral effective Lagrangian at leading one-loop order are investigated. It is shown that the Roper mass can be extracted from these levels for not too large lattice volumes. Further, to include three-body NππN \pi \pi dynamics, a non-relativistic effective field theory for the Roper resonance within a covariant particle-dimer picture is introduced. This particle-dimer approach is a suitable framework to investigate three-particle scattering relevant for the Roper channel. The appearing dimer fields are analyzed, the energy levels of the Roper resonance in a finite volume are calculated and compared to the results from the chiral effective Lagrangian.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, minor modifications, Proceedings of the 39th International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory, 8th-13th August 2022, Bonn, German

The effect of FMB11â„¢ and Avicorr probiotics on Salmonella incidence in commercial tom turkeys

This study examined the effect of probiotic treatment on Salmonella incidence in commercial tom turkeys in grow finish barns. Two probiotics were tested and administered through the drinking water. Both probiotics were started at the recommended production stage and given at their specified doses. Ten barns were tested overall, with five barns on the first probiotic and five barns on the second probiotic. Initial incidence of Salmonella was determined with drag swabs when the turkeys were about 17 weeks of age. Barns were assigned a particular treatment on the basis where five sites were used, each site having two barns, each barn receiving a different probiotic. Initial Salmonella incidence was equal for each probiotic. After the turkeys were treated and marketed, post-market drag swabs were taken with the same procedure as the initial drag swabs. Post-market Salmonella incidence was determined for each probiotic. While there was not a statistically significant difference in Salmonella incidence between each probiotic, there was a statistically significant reduction in Salmonella incidence overall. Results indicated a 30% reduction in Salmonella incidence after treatment with a probiotic. Furthermore, the data comparing each probiotic against each other, while not statistically significant due to low sample size, does seem to favor one probiotic over the other. With additional research, this could potentially become statistically significant. According to the results of this study, overall use of either probiotic does reduce the incidence of Salmonella in commercial market age heavy tom turkeys. However, there were uncontrollable factors that may have had an effect on the results. Weather, humidity, and litter conditions were observably inconsistent during pre-swab and post-swab analysis, which may have affected the survival of Salmonella. Furthermore, due to an infectious disease, several barns required antibiotic treatment during this study; removal of their data was not statistically significant.Undergraduate Research Scholarship - College of AgricultureNo embarg

Experiences and Perspectives of High School Football Coaches in Managing Athletic Injuries and Medical Conditions in A Rural Setting

    Get PDF
Rural high schools are less likely than urban or suburban high schools to employ an athletic trainer, and this places the responsibility for injury evaluation and management on the coaches. This interpretive case study included interviews and observations of two football coaches from rural Tennessee high schools—one coach who had an athletic trainer and the other who did not have an athletic trainer prior to the fall of 2020. This study aimed to provide an understanding of the coaches’ experiences and perspectives in managing football players’ medical emergencies, acute and chronic injuries, and illnesses. Preliminary study findings will be discussed

Evaluating RV Campground Attributes Using IPA Analysis

    Get PDF
The objectives of the current study were to examine the perceived importance and performance of campground attributes from the perception of RV Association members. One of the benefits the RV association provides its members is a discount on parking fees for campgrounds affiliated with the RV association. This study used Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) to determine areas of differences in which improvement could be made. The study also compared motorized and non-motorized vehicle owner’s perceptions of camp ground attributes as well as female and male perceptions of camp ground attributes. The campground attribute ‘loyalty programs’ was the only attribute that showed a high level of importance but a low level of performance across all three IPA

The Roper Resonance in a finite volume

We calculate the energy levels corresponding to the Roper resonance based on a two-flavor chiral effective Lagrangian for pions, nucleons, deltas and the Roper resonance at leading one-loop order. We show that the Roper mass can be extracted from these levels for not too large lattice volumes.Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures, some minor modifications, accepted for publication in Comm. Theo. Phy

The Role of Hospitality Service Quality in Third Places for the Elderly

    Get PDF
As a result of the ageing baby-boomer generation and increasing average life expectancy, the active elderly is a growing population who enjoy their later lives. In order to support these individuals, it is essential to provide appropriate housing and services. In addition to the provision of these resources, it is also important that theses are of a high quality in order to adequately meet resident needs. Dr. Denver Severt and Dr. Ji-Eun Lee from Rosen College of Hospitality Management have explored the role of hospitality service quality in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) setting
