Highlight on the problems generated by p-coumaric acid analysis in fermentations

    Get PDF
p-Coumaric acid is a natural hydroxycinnamic acid existing in grapes and wine. It is the precursor of the 4-ethylphenol molecule through the bioconversion reaction by Brettanomyces yeast. Chromatographic methods are the most common techniques to detect p-coumaric acid. It is known that this acid is highly unstable in analysis and fermentation experiments. This paper highlights the problems occurring in p-coumaric acid analysis in wine fermentation conditions when studying its bioconversion. First, it was shown that p-coumaric acid was unstable at elevated temperature. On the other hand, it was found that in our experimental conditions p-coumaric acid reacted with ethanol. This work revealed also that the p-coumaric acid is partially adsorbed on Brettanomyces yeast, certainly on cell walls. Because of these phenomena the quantity of p-coumaric acid which can participate to the bioconversion into ethylphenol decreases

This study investigated the effectiveness of a systematic interactive multimedia instruction courseware with reflection and review in enhancing mastery of safety knowledge and skills in the aspects of Planned Emergency, Fire Fighting and First Aid, and self-efficacy among flight attendants. Eleven systematic interactive multimedia lessons were developed following Gagne‘s (1985) hierarchy of learning prescriptions and the steps of the Dick & Carey‘s (2001) instructional design model

Spotify tailoring for promoting effectiveness in cross-functional autonomous squads

    Get PDF
Organisations tend to tailor agile methods to scale employed practices to have cross-functional autonomous teams while promoting sustainable creative and productive development at a constant pace. Thus, it is important to investigate how organisations tailor agile practices to get the balance right between teams' autonomy and alignment. Spotify model is originally introduced to facilitate the development of music streaming services in a very large-scale project with a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) model. However, developing a large-scale mission-critical project with a Business-to-Business (B2B) model is not essentially supported by the Spotify model. Thus, embracing Spotify model for such projects should be concerned about the question of how Spotify practices are adjusted to promote the effectiveness of cross-functional autonomous squads in a mission-critical project with B2B model? In this paper, we conduct a longitudinal embedded case study, which lasted 21 months during which 14 semi-structured interviews were conducted. The Grounded Theory (GT) is adopted to analyse the collected data. As a result, we identify practices and processes that promote effectiveness in cross-functional autonomous squads, which have never been discussed in terms of Spotify model before. We also present Spotify Tailoring by highlighting modified and newly introduced practices by the organisation in which the case study was conducted

An Empirical Analysis of Prime Performing Age of NBA Players; When Do They Reach Their Prime?

    Get PDF
This empirical research paper investigates the prime performing age of NBA players from the perspective of General Managers. The study aims to identify the age range in which players are most effective on the court and to determine if there is a significant relationship between age and player performance. Player performance statistics data was collected from ESPN and analyzed to help determine at what age players reach their prime productivity levels for a team. The findings suggest that the prime performing age of NBA players is between 27 and 31 years old, with a slight decline in performance after the age of 32. The results have important implications for team management and player recruitment strategies

Expert Queuing System using Statistical Analysis and Fuzzy Logic Technique

    Get PDF
This research suggests an expert or smart queue system to control the auditors in government and private companies characterized by the number of critics, where the proposed system determine the proper queue of client by calculating the average length of time for the work of each employee (service) and determine the type of operation approved, with the number of employees and auditors registered, and enter these data for computations based  on fuzzy logic. These processes determine the length of time needed to finish a number of processes. The number of clients expected their service are determined based on the number and type of operation which can create a timetable for operations within the working time (primary queue ) .  As case study the Department of Civil Affairs is ben taken. Keywords: expert systems, fuzzy logic, queuing system, .smart queuing systems, queuing management

Attitudes towards Facebook and the Use of Knowledge and Skills among Students in the English Department at the University of Hail

This research aims at investigating students’ attitudes towards knowledge and skills in the web page of Facebook among students in the English department at the University of Hail. Social network sites such as Facebook has a significant effect on students’ life. Facebook has a potential of supplementing students education with a secondary source that could enhance knowledge and skills among students with the target to further improve students’ achievement. 145 students participated in the study. A 5 point Likert-type questionnaire was designed by the researcher. The questionnaire was divided into 4 dimensions of attitudes towards the adequacy, usability, efficacy, and satisfaction of knowledge and skills. The results of the study indicated that students possess high positive attitudes towards these factors with the exception of the attitudes towards adequacy of the education content which draws the attention for further investigation. Keywords: Knowledge and skills, adequacy, efficacy, usability, satisfactio

Holy Quran Arabic Character Recognition using Neural Networks

    Get PDF
Arabic text recognition is one of the most important fields of optical character recognition for Arabic people. Arabic text recognition consider of converting an image of Arabic text into editable format such as doc or pdf. One of its branches is holy Quran text recognition. The key aim of this research is to develop Quran Arabic Recognition System. The study recognises the Arabic text (character) individually . In addition, this study will use  Back propagation neural networks for character recognitions. Because of the nature of holy quran the rate of recognition must by extremely high. This research presents a framework of the needed steps and process to establish a successful Project Management Office (PMO). This framework is driven by the different functions and roles that may be performed by a Project Management Office (PMO) as well as the type of PMO that would best serve organizations. Significant gains can be achieved by using the proposed framework. This framework is driven by the implementation of PMOs best practices that drives PMO success as well as the prevention of all pitfalls that lead to most PMOs failure.
