O planejamento urbano e os acidentes de trânsito: um estudo sobre o Município de Toledo - PR

    Get PDF
The article proposes to identify how urban planning influences the traffic accidents in the Municipality of Toledo - PR in the period from 2011 to 2015, inside the Urban Perimeter, starting from the problematization created by the high rate of traffic accidents in the municipality. The methodology used was through conceptual aspects of spatial analysis and urban planning; Collection of primary data in the Traffic Accident Reporting Bulletins, then tabulated and analyzed according to the theoretical basis. It was possible to verify that the highest rate of traffic accidents occurs in the city center, during trading hours and services, which coincides with the high density of the central area. Urban planning can interfere with the problem of accidents, with plans to decentralize commercial activities, encourage automobile disuse, and promote adequate spaces for sustainable mobility and traffic

Systemic Administration of Epothilone B Promotes Axon Regeneration and Functional Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury

After central nervous system (CNS) injury, such as a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI), damaged axons fail to regenerate resulting in a permanent loss of sensorimotor functions. Regeneration is prevented by growth inhibitory factors in the lesion scar and in CNS myelin as well as by a poor axon intrinsic growth potential. Microtubule dynamics regulate key processes that are instrumental in regeneration including axon growth and scar formation. Moderate microtubule stabilization by the anti-cancer drug Taxol promotes axon integrity and axons growth and prevents the formation of the lesion scar leading to enhanced axon regeneration after SCI. However, Taxol is impractical for clinical situations. Due its poor blood-brain-barrier permeability Taxol requires CNS invasive delivery bearing the risk of additional neuronal tissue damage. Here, I report that systemic and post-injury administration of epothilone B, a microtubule stabilizing drug that crosses the blood-brain barrier, has beneficial effects after SCI. Systemic administration of epothilone B decreases fibrotic scarring in spinal cord injured rodents by disrupting cell polarity of meningeal fibroblasts, which abrogates directed cell migration. Time lapse microscopy and in vivo live imaging of individual axons reveal that epothilone B allows the microtubular network to protrude into the distal tip of the axon to propel axon growth through an otherwise inhibitory environment. Finally, epothilone B improves gait and coordinated walking after thoracic spinal cord contusion injury. As the epothilone B derivative ixabepilone received clinical approval, these data suggest that epothilones hold promise for clinical translation in enabling axon regeneration and functional recovery after central nervous system injury

High Spatial Resolution of the Mid-Infrared Emission of Compton-Thick Seyfert 2 Galaxy Mrk3

Mid-infrared (MIR) spectra observed with Gemini/Michelle were used to study the nuclear region of the Compton-thick Seyfert 2 (Sy 2) galaxy Mrk 3 at a spatial resolution of \sim200 pc. No polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) emission bands were detected in the N-band spectrum of Mrk 3. However, intense [Ar III] 8.99 μ\mum, [S IV] 10.5 μ\mum and [Ne II] 12.8 μ\mum ionic emission-lines, as well as silicate absorption feature at 9.7μ\mum have been found in the nuclear extraction (\sim200 pc). We also present subarcsecond-resolution Michelle N-band image of Mrk 3 which resolves its circumnuclear region. This diffuse MIR emission shows up as a wings towards East-West direction closely aligned with the S-shaped of the Narrow Line Region (NLR) observed at optical [O III]λ\lambda5007\AA image with Hubble/FOC. The nuclear continuum spectrum can be well represented by a theoretical torus spectral energy distribution (SED), suggesting that the nucleus of Mrk 3 may host a dusty toroidal structure predicted by the unified model of active galactic nucleus (AGN). In addition, the hydrogen column density (NH=4.83.1+3.3×1023_H\,=\,4.8^{+3.3}_{-3.1}\times\,10^{23} cm2^{-2}) estimated with a torus model for Mrk 3 is consistent with the value derived from X-ray spectroscopy. The torus model geometry of Mrk 3 is similar to that of NGC 3281, both Compton-thick galaxies, confirmed through fitting the 9.7μ\mum silicate band profile. This results might provide further evidence that the silicate-rich dust can be associated with the AGN torus and may also be responsible for the absorption observed at X-ray wavelengths in those galaxies.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
