INVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ACIDITY CAUSED BY DIFFERENT SPOONS ON THE VOLUME OF SACCHAROMYCES ROSEI FORMED
It is known that when a vegetable such as tomato is pickled, certain volume of mold, fungi is formed. On the other hand when a metal spoon Is used instead of a wooden one, the volume of fungi is less. This might be because, when a metal and acid (vinegar solution in the pickle juice) reacts, H2 gas is released and the dissolving of this H2 gas results in a decrease in pH. It should be stated that the kind of fungi formed ‘Saccharomyces Rosei’ can only reproduce in an optimum pH of 6 to 7. But when a metal reacts with the pickle juice, the pH will be lower than the optimum value for the ‘Saccharomyces Rosei’ thus fungal reproduction will be inhibited to some extent. The objective of the study was to investigate, whether the brand of spoon used made a significant difference in the volume of fungi formed. In order to test the effect of silver nitrate, nickel, plastic and wood, 4 different data sets of 3 trials were created as well as a control group and observed for 14 days. After 14 days, it was statistically significant that less volume of fungi was formed in the data set containing nickel samples, when compared with the other data sets including the control group
Isıl işlem uygulanmış, karbon fiber ve cam fiber ile güçlendirilmiş lamine kaplama kerestelerin (LVL) bazı fiziksel ve mekaniksel özellikleri
MakaleWOS:000873967500003Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine some physical and mechanical properties of the experimental samples manufactured from beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) veneers, which were heat-treated at 150, 175 and 200 degrees C for 3 hours using phenol formaldehyde (PF) adhesive, and reinforced with carbon and glass fiber.Theory and Methods: The effects of glass and carbon fiber on the some physical and mechanical properties of LVL composite material that produced from using heat-treated beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) veneer and phenol formaldehyde (PF) adhesive were investigated. Results: The test results showed that the bending strength (MOR) and modulus of elasticity in bending (MOE) values of the reinforced samples with carbon and glass fiber increased. However, while it caused significant changes in the compressive strength parallel to the grain (CS//) values depending on the applied heat treatment temperature and the type of reinforcing material, decreases in the bonding strength parallel to the grain (SS) values were determined. Conclusion: The value of air-dried densities and MOR, MOE, CS// and SS properties decreased with increasing heat treatment temperature. Depending on the type of reinforcing material and heat treatment temperature, different fracture modes were occured in the test samples. The reinforcement fiber fabrics had a positive effect on MOR and MOE, while CS// and SS properties were negatively affected in this study. Also carbon fiber more effective on MOR and MOE, while glass fiber on CS and SS values. All the heat-treated and reinforced samples showed a higher MOR and MOE than heat-treated and unreinforced samples. The CS// values varied according to heat treatment temperature and type of reinforcing material. On the other hand, the SS values of reinforced samples were lower than unreinforced samples in all test groups.
Probabilistic derivation and analysis of the chemical diffusion master equation with mutual annihilation
We propose a probabilistic derivation of the so-called chemical diffusion
master equation (CDME) and describe an infinite dimensional moment generating
function method for finding its analytical solution. CDMEs model by means of an
infinite system of coupled Fokker-Planck equations the probabilistic evolution
of chemical reaction kinetics associated with spatial diffusion of individual
particles; here, we focus an creation and mutual annihilation chemical
reactions combined with Brownian diffusion of the single particles. Our
probabilistic approach mimics the derivation of backward Kolmogorov equations
for birth-death continuous time Markov chains. Moreover, the proposed infinite
dimensional moment generating function method links certain finite dimensional
projections of the solution of the CDME to the solution of a single linear
fourth order partial differential equation containing as many variables as the
dimension of the aforementioned projection space.Comment: 21 page
Competitive importance performance analysis (CIPA): An illustration from thermal tourism destinations
This paper introduces a syntheses of traditional Importance-Performance Analysis and Analytical Hierarchy Process under the name of Competitive Importance-Performance Analysis (CIPA), to empower managers to make better decisions in creating competitive advantage. A questionnaire of a Turkish thermal tourism destination is utilized to illustrate the execution of the proposed approach. The results of the current case study illustrate the practicability and supplementary insights of specifying the priorities of attributes through the proposed approach for gaining competitive advantage. The results suggested that, from the expert’s perspective, plentiful natural hot springs, sound local transportation network, availability of sufficient accommodation, hygiene standards for hot springs spa equipment, public interest in health-leisure activities are important factors shaping the competitiveness of thermal tourism destinations. Therefore, thermal tourism destinations in Turkey might focus more on these attributes to gain competitive advantage. Moreover, increase in visitors seeking for health-oriented leisure time is increasing and hence the future of Turkish thermal tourism seems encouraging. Hence, the adapted undertakings will be required by augmenting the core thermal tourism product to reach the competitors
Analysis of Mathematics Teachers’ Self-Efficacy Levels Concerning the Teaching Process
The purpose of this study is to identify mathematics teachers’ opinions on the teaching process self-efficacy levels; and to examine mathematics teachers’ teaching process self-efficacy beliefs with regards to specific variables. The study was conducted in Turkey during the second term of the 2015-2016 academic year. The study sample consisted of 328 mathematics teachers working in secondary and high schools. The “scale for teacher self-efficacy on the teaching process” developed by Korkmaz and Ünsal (2015) was used as the data collection instrument for the study. The scale consists of 23 items and four dimensions. These dimensions are individual difference, planning, method and technique diversity and use of various activities. Arithmetic mean ( ), independent samples t-test and one-way variance analysis were conducted in analyzing the data. In addition, the Lsd test was conducted in cases where a difference was detected in the anova test so as to identify between which groups the difference occurred. According to the study results, it was observed that mathematics teachers stated opinions on having high self-efficacy beliefs concerning the teaching process, that these opinions differed based on the gender, year of service, level of school of profession variables and that these opinions did not differ based on the type of school of graduation, educational background and type of school variables. The results were compared with other study results and were discussed. Suggestions were made based on the results in the final section of the study. Keywords: self-efficacy, teacher self-efficacy belief, teaching process
The effect of heat treatment on the some physical and mechanical properties of beech (fagus orientalis lipsky) wood
This study describes the effect of heat treatment on the some of the physical and mechanical properties of beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) wood at different temperatures and times. Samples of beech wood were heat-treated at 150, 175, and 200 degrees C for 1, 3 and 5 h. The mechanical properties of the heat-treated and untreated samples were determined by bending tests, modulus of elasticity in bending, compression strength parallel to grain, and Brinell hardness. Physical properties were determined by weight loss, density, and volumetric swelling tests. The results showed that the heat treatment increased the weight loss, density loss and dimensional stabilization. In addition, an increase was observed for compression strength parallel to grain (except for at 200 degrees C for 5 h), while a small increase was determined in the bending strength, modulus of elasticity in bending, hardness values of heat-treated wood samples at 150 degrees C for 1 and 3 h. However, the heat treatment at higher temperature and duration clearly decreased bending strength, modulus of elasticity in bending, and hardness
B2B pazarlama iletişiminde sosyal medya kullanımı: Türk işletmeler üzerine keşifsel bir çalışma
The different characteristics of B2B and B2C markets affect the traditional marketing communication mix as well
as the social media content strategy. However, it is seen that while some B2B companies have adopted well to
social media, the others tend to imitate B2C companies in social media existence. This study aims to figure out
which MARCOM tools are intensified in social media and if it works or not. For this purpose, every single social
media post of 40 Turkish B2B SMEs have been classified into MARCOM tools and then the interaction performance
of each post have been measured via engagement rate formula. Thus, evidence gathered to figure out what kind of
content serves best in which social media platform for engagement and interaction. This study is believed to be a
general guideline for selecting the right MARCOM mix in social media for B2B companies –at least- for B2B SMEs
Postoperative Maxillary Cyst: A Case Report
Postoperative maxillary cyst is a quite rare delayed complication of surgical intervention associated with maxillary sinuses. It occurs many years after surgery. This paper describes a 54-year-old woman presenting with swelling of left cheek for seven-years duration. The orthopantomograph revealed a unilocular cystic radiolucency with well-defined margins in left maxillary sinus. In the computerized tomography, the cyst had a sclerotic wall with bony condensations. Aspiration cytology revealed many neutrophil leukocytes. Cyst was drained and enucleated. Histopathologically, it had a fibrous wall with inflammation and focal reactive bone formation and lined by a respiratory-type epithelium. In the clinical history, it is learned that she had a maxillary sinus surgery 8 years ago and the diagnosis was made considering the clinical and histopathological findings
Psychological contract breaches and organizational cynicism at hotels
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the impacts of
psychological contract breaches experienced at hotels on the formation of
organizational cynicism. Within this framework, the study is towards
employees working at different departments and levels. 222 employees
have participated in the research, and the data are analyzed with a MannWhitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Spearman correlations test. In the
study, employees have a perception of psychological contract breach and
have developed some cynical attitudes towards the hotel. Also it is found
that the cognitive dimension of cynicism has an almost strong relationship
with the perception of a psychological contract breach. It was determined
that the affective dimension of cynicism had a weak relationship with the
behavioral dimension and again an almost strong relationship with the
perception of a psychological contract breach. Finally, a weak relationship
is seen between the behavioral dimension of cynicism and the perception
of a psychological contract breach. The present study states the
relationship between the former concepts at hotels and provides a starting
point for further research in organizational behavior not only at hotels but
also at other service sectors. An important point emphasizing the need for
the study is that the study is the first study to put forward the relationship
between the concepts of psychological contract breach and cynicism
within the national scope
A Study on Fatty Acid Profile and Some Major Mineral Contents of Sea Cucumber (Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) from Mediterranean Sea (Turkey)
This study was carried out to detect the concentration of fatty acid and some major minerals (P, Mg, Na, Ca) in sea cucumber (Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey). In fatty acid composition, the monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) fraction was dominant (14.85%) followed by polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs, 9.53%) and saturated fatty acids (SFAs, 9.04%). The order of avarega macro minerals concentrations found in samples was Ca>Na>Mg>P. End of the study, the results showed that Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey) has a low amount of major mineral and fatty acid content when compared with other economical sea cucumber species. However, PUFA/SFA and n3/n6 ratios were found ( 1.05 and 1.87) in good range. Keywords: Fatty acids, minerals, sea cucumber, Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori, Mediterranean se
