A Contextual Analysis and Performance Guide of Selected Works for Solo Bass Trombone by Norman Bolter.

This document presents a survey of selected works for solo bass trombone by the trombonist and composer Norman Bolter (b. 1955). These works include Sagittarius2 (2002), Of Mountains (2009) from Of Mountains, Lakes and Trees (1996-97), and The Blue of Neptune (2002). Since there is a lack of sufficient scholarly research on Bolter, this document is intended to enlighten other musicians about the lesser-known bass trombone compositions of Bolter. It serves as a vehicle to stimulate further research of Bolter's music. In addition, the performance guide and analysis allow future bass trombonists to gain a deeper understanding of the meanings behind the music. It begins with a biography of Bolter that focuses on his musical training and professional career. The order that the compositions will be addressed is as follows: Sagittarius2, Of Mountains, and then The Blue of Neptune. The commentary on Sagittarius2 focuses on: a brief discussion of background information; a contextual analysis, including a discussion on astrology, numerology, and a biographical sketch of Steven Zellmer; a brief formal analysis; and a performance guide. With regards to Of Mountains, the following topics are discussed; a brief consideration of background information, a brief formal analysis, and a performance guide. The Blue of Neptune is approached in four ways: there is a brief explanation of the background information followed a short formal analysis and a more extended contextual analysis, including a discussion on the role of meditation, and finally a performance guide

Determination of optimal parameters for the cementation process of cadmium and copper from zinc sulphate solution

In the presented work, research was carried out to select the optimal parameters for the cementation process of zinc sulphate solution, from impurities in the form of copper and cadmium. This process is one of the stages of the hydrometallurgical method of zinc production, which largely determines the purity of the produced zinc. Mogućnost uklanjanja olova iz industrijske Cu-Pb-Fe legure injektiranjem argonom

In this article results of research on removal of the lead from industrial Cu-Pb-Fe alloy by means of argon barbotage are presented. The examinations was performed on an industrial alloy from the “Glogow II” Copperworks. As a basic research equipment a pipe resistance furnace enabling heating of a sample up to 1773 K temperature was used. All researches were conducted at 1473 K, 1523 K, 1573 K temperature and with gas flow 5,55×10-6, 6,94×10-6, 8,33×10-6, 9,72×10-6 m3/s.Mogućnost uklanjanja olova iz industrijske CU-Pb-Fe legure injektiranjem argonom. Članak daje rezultate istraživanja uklanjanja olova iz industrijske Cu-PB-Fe legure primjenom injektiranja argonom. Opiti su provedeni na pogonskoj leguri u Tvornici bakra "Glogow II". Kao temeljna oprema rabljena je pećna cijev, koja omogućava zagrijavanje uzorka iznad temperature 1773 K. Sva istraživanja su provedena na temperaturama 1473 K, 1523 K, 1573 K i strujom plina 5,55×10-6, 6,94×10-6, 8,33×10-6, 9,72×10-6 m3/s

Looking beyond the boundaries of acquired firms:Exploring the phenomenon of inherited alliances

While traditionally research has looked at strategic alliances and acquisitions separately, in practice we observe that an acquirer may be confronted with the alliance agreements of the acquired firm. In my dissertation, I refer to an alliance of an acquired firm that an acquirer inherits through an acquisition as inherited alliance. The core objective of this dissertation is, therefore, to provide a better understanding of the unique characteristics that make the inherited alliances different from the homegrown alliances, and their implications. To achieve this goal, I conducted three empirical studies, using practitioners’ insights as well as rich secondary data from the biotechnology industry.In the first project, I firstly explore the phenomenon of inherited alliances by conducting interviews with biotechnology executives. Relying on these insights, I test the impact of the inherited alliances in a firm’s alliance portfolio on firm financial performance. The second project focuses on the navigating role of the acquired firm in the resilience of an alliance to an alliance partner acquisition. I test four hypotheses under which the acquired firm is likely to improve the inherited alliance’s resilience to an alliance partner acquisition. In the final project, I focus on the role of the inherited alliances in the post-acquisition governance and the moderating effect of the prior alliance tie between the acquiring and acquired firm. Together, this dissertation offers important insights into inherited alliances, helping us to better understand the different alliance origins and why acquired firm’s alliances should not be ignored in the acquisition deals

Medical Devices, Support Networks, and their Vulnerabilities: A Case Study of the Integration of Medical Networks into the Air Force Information Network

With the implementation of one Air Force, one network under way it is important to look at how the Air Force plans to incorporate the medical field and its unique systems, networks, and mission. The medical field presents distinctive problems not seen in other areas. Open network vulnerabilities in the medical information systems not only pose a problem for the individual, but to the military service also. Possible security holes provide both access to vital military & personal information (end strength numbers, current status of personnel, social security), and a door way into the network . Intruders now can possibly access command & control systems and other weapon systems. This research provides insight into the current & future information initiatives dealing with the Air Force\u27s medical field and the Department of Defense\u27s approach to system security. This research additionally looks at the laws and regulations dealing with privacy and ethical issues. This purview starts with the recently enacted Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT (HIPPA), and concludes with the Laws of Armed Conflict. The research questions were answered through the use of a Case Study and a comprehensive literature review. The medical and network support teams from two Air Force medical facilities were the basis of this study
