Hybrid M-FSK/DQPSK Modulations for CubeSat Picosatellites

    Get PDF
Conventional CubeSat radio systems typically use one of several basic modulations, such as AFSK, GMSK, BPSK, QPSK and OOK or switch between them on demand if possible. These modulations represent a bal¬anced trade-off between good energy efficiency of high order M-FSK modulation and good spectral efficiency of high order M-QAM modulation. Utilization of modulations with the best energy efficiency is not possible due to strict limits on occupied frequency bandwidth. In this paper the proposed group of hybrid modulations and proposed hybrid modulator and demodulator are presented. Novel solution offer interesting possibilities of increasing spectral efficiency as well as energy efficiency of basic M-FSK modulation by embedding DQPSK symbols between two M-FSK symbols. Such group of hybrid modulations offers suitable properties for picosatellite, e.g. simple realization onboard the picosatellite, better energy and spectral efficiency, low PAPR, wide range of adaptation by changing the order of M-FSK, suitable for easy non-coherent demodulation, good immunity to Doppler effect with DM-FSK coding

Performance analysis of parallel branch and bound search with the hypercube architecture

    Get PDF
With the availability of commercial parallel computers, researchers are examining new classes of problems which might benefit from parallel computing. This paper presents results of an investigation of the class of search intensive problems. The specific problem discussed is the Least-Cost Branch and Bound search method of deadline job scheduling. The object-oriented design methodology was used to map the problem into a parallel solution. While the initial design was good for a prototype, the best performance resulted from fine-tuning the algorithm for a specific computer. The experiments analyze the computation time, the speed up over a VAX 11/785, and the load balance of the problem when using loosely coupled multiprocessor system based on the hypercube architecture

    EU enlargement and environmental policy

The Eastern European Associates (EEA) have committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions according to their targets set in the Kyoto Protocol. Furthermore since 1993 trade liberalization has taken place between all associated countries and the EU. There is meanwhile a large quantitative literature on the economic effects of full integration of the associated countries into the EU as well as on the Kyoto Protocol. However, there is a lack of quantitative research on the linkage of trade and the environment in the context of the EU enlargement. In this paper we analyze the interactions of different environmental policies under the Kyoto Protocol and trade liberalization in the process of eastern enlargement using a computable general equilibrium model. We find that trade liberalization provides large gains for EEAs while it holds only modest gains for EU member states. Integration does not show a significant impact on carbon abatement policies, but mitigates associated welfare losses. --EU enlargement,Kyoto Protocol, computable general equilibrium modeling

    Los Hermanos Mayo: Photographing Exile

The Hermanos Mayo know what it means to have to emigrate. Since 1939, this collective of photojournalists has played a pivotal role in redefining Mexico's graphic reportage, but their story began in a Spain about to explode into one of the modern world's great conflagrations: the Spanish Civil War. There, on the eve of so many hopes and such disappointment, the Mayo Brothers established their link with the «underdogs» which has lasted to the present day. The pseudonym «Mayo,» which the five «brothers»-Francisco (Paco), Faustino, Julio, Cándido, and Pablo--have used is a nombre de guerra which reflects their commitment to the working class; it was also a result of the difficulties which can accompany such an allegiance. The Hermanos Mayo know what it means to have to emigrate. LE DISCOURS OPERATIF EN MILIEU MILITAIRE : LA MESSAGERIE OPERATIONNELLE

    No full text
International audienceThe operative discourse in the military: the operational messaging. The radio message is a particular and codified dialogical situation, using terms and rules pre-established procedures, generating stable and repetitive statements, which limits the possibilities of interpreting the message. The objective is to analyze discursive and language constructions which are specific to a radio message. And this lead to the question of how it places the radio message into a specific discourse genre: the operative discourse

Propulsion and airframe aerodynamic interactions of supersonic V/STOL configurations, phase 1

    Get PDF
A wind tunnel model of a supersonic V/STOL fighter configuration has been tested to measure the aerodynamic interaction effects which can result from geometrically close-coupled propulsion system/airframe components. The approach was to configure the model to present two different test techniques. One was a coventional test technique composed of two test modes. In the Flow-Through mode, absolute configuration aerodynamics are measured, including inlet/airframe interactions. In the Jet-Effects mode, incremental nozzle/airframe interactions are measured. The other test technique is a propulsion simulator approach, where a subscale, externally powered engine is mounted in the model. This allows proper measurement of inlet/airframe and nozzle/airframe interactions simultaneously

Follow Up Observations of TESS Exoplanets Using the Union College Observatory: Extended Mission

    Get PDF
We are members of the TESS Observing Program Working Group (TFOP) in collaboration with other universities and observatories around the world in an effort to help in the extensive follow up observations needed for the Targets of Interest (TOI) of NASA\u27s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We contribute seeing-limited photometry where the goal is to provide time-series photometric observations that can remove false positives due to nearby eclipsing binary stars. Using the program AstroImageJ, we fully analyzed and submitted photometry for three TOIs. TOI 851.01 was retired as a Validated Planet Candidate. Submission of TOI 1319.01 confirmed a transit and candidate was retired as a Nearby Eclipsing Binary. For TOI 1371.01 we confirmed a partial transit and the candidate was retired as a Spectroscopic Binary. TESS mission has entered an extended mission and we continue to take observations throughout 2020
