A fast direct solver for a class of two-dimensional separable elliptic equations on the sphere

    Get PDF
An efficient, direct, second-order solver for the discrete solution of two-dimensional separable elliptic equations on the sphere is presented. The method involves a Fourier transformation in longitude and a direct solution of the resulting coupled second-order finite difference equations in latitude. The solver is made efficient by vectorizing over longitudinal wavenumber and by using a vectorized fast Fourier transform routine. It is evaluated using a prescribed solution method and compared with a multigrid solver and the standard direct solver from FISHPAK

Wingless activity in the precursor cells specifies neuronal migratory behavior in the Drosophila nerve cord.

Neurons and their precursor cells are formed in different regions within the developing CNS, but they migrate and occupy very specific sites in the mature CNS. The ultimate position of neurons is crucial for establishing proper synaptic connectivity in the brain. In Drosophila, despite its extensive use as a model system to study neurogenesis, we know almost nothing about neuronal migration or its regulation. In this paper, I show that one of the most studied neuronal pairs in the Drosophila nerve cord, RP2/sib, has a complicated migratory route. Based on my studies on Wingless (Wg) signaling, I report that the neuronal migratory pattern is determined at the precursor cell stage level. The results show that Wg activity in the precursor neuroectodermal and neuroblast levels specify neuronal migratory pattern two divisions later, thus, well ahead of the actual migratory event. Moreover, at least two downstream genes, Cut and Zfh1, are involved in this process but their role is at the downstream neuronal level. The functional importance of normal neuronal migration and the requirement of Wg signaling for the process are indicated by the finding that mislocated RP2 neurons in embryos mutant for Wg-signaling fail to properly send out their axon projection

GROWTH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PURE THOURIA DOPPED WITH L - VALINE

Poly crystals of pure thiourea doped with L-valine an organic material: have beengrown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature .The crystalline nature of growncrystal was confirmed by power x ray diffraction analysis (XRD).The functional group of thegrown crystals was found by FTIR analysis. The spectral bands have been compared withsimilar thiourea complexes using FTIR spectrum in the range 1000- 3500 cm-1 .The UV- Visstudy was performed to know optical behaviour of the grown crystals

A graphics package for meteorological data, version 1.5

    Get PDF
A plotting package has been developed to simplify the task of plotting meteorological data. The calling sequences and examples of high level yet flexible routines which allow contouring, vectors and shading of cylindrical, polar, orthographic and Mollweide (egg) projections are given. Routines are also included for contouring pressure-latitude and pressure-longitude fields with linear or log scales in pressure (interpolation to fixed grid interval is done automatically). Also included is a fairly general line plotting routine. The present version (1.5) produces plots on WMS laser printers and uses graphics primitives from WOLFPLOT

An Approach to Emulate and Validate the Effects of Single Event Upsets using the PREDICT FUTRE Hardware Integrated Framework

    Get PDF
Due to the advances in electronics design automation industry, worldwide, the integrated approach to model and emulate the single event effects due to cosmic radiation, in particular single event upsets or single event transients is gaining momentum. As of now, no integrated methodology to inject the fault in parallel to functional test vectors or to estimate the effects of radiation for a selected function in system on chip at design phase exists. In this paper, a framework, PRogrammable single Event effects Demonstrator for dIgital Chip Technologies (PREDICT) failure assessment for radiation effects is developed using a hardware platform and aided by genetic algorithms addressing all the above challenges. A case study is carried out to evaluate the frameworks capability to emulate the effects of radiation using the co-processor as design under test (DUT) function. Using the ML605 and Virtex-6 evaluation board for single and three particle simulations with the layered atmospheric conditions, the proposed framework consumes approximately 100 min and 300 min, respectively; it consumes 600 min for 3 particle random atmospheric conditions, using the 64 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system with 3.1 GHz processor based workstation. The framework output transforms the 4 MeVcm2/mg linear energy transfer to a single event transient pulse width of 2 μs with 105 amplification factor for visualisation, which matches well with the existing experimental results data. Using the framework, the effects of radiation for the co-processing module are estimated during the design phase and the success rate of the DUT is found to be 48 per cent

A REVIEW ON ALZHIMER'S DISEASE: PATHOLOGY, MOLECULAR CONDITIONS, MANAGEMNT AND CAUSES

    Get PDF
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that starts slowly, progressively leads to death and contributes to about 60-70% cases of dementia. AD is characterized with Senile Plaques (SPs) and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) and the major symptoms include problems with language, dis-orientation of words, unable to manage self-care, memory loss and behavioural issues which gradually lead to completely lose bodily functions later. The actual cause for the disease is not known till date. Recent research show distinct paths that closely try to reveal various cytoplasmic, genetic, behavioural, environmental and epigenetic causes that may lead to the development of AD. Most likely all studies target the Senile Plaques, protein fragments called beta-amyloid and Neurofibrillary Tangles, twisted fibres of a protein called tau. Since, the exact causative mechanism is not yet clearly understood, ultimately finding a suitable treatment or management for the disease has also become an ominous challenge for researchers.Â

An atlas of ECMWF analyses (1980-1987). Part 1: First moment quantities

    Get PDF
This document is an atlas of the European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) initialized analyses for 1980 to 1987. Various first moment quantities are presented for monthly, seasonal, and annual averages on a global cylindrical projection, as well as, cross section maps of zonal averages. Global maps of winds, temperature, stream function, and velocity potential are presented at 850 and 200 mb. In addition, global maps of the 300 mb height field (total and eddy), the 500 mb vertical velocity, the 850 mb moisture field, and sea level pressure are presented. The average seasonal cycle and anomalies during the 8 year period are presented for selected quantities
