Plants of Begonia x tuberhybrida ‘Nonstop’, ‘Clips’, and ‘Musical’ were exposed to 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks of short days (SD, 9 hours day length) initiated at 3 stages of plant development (immediately upon germination, 4 or 8 weeks after germination). Prior to and succeeding short days, plants were exposed to long days (LD, 16 hours day length). Musical flowered on average 68 days, Clips 78 days and Nonstop 83 days after germination under continuous LD conditions. In Nonstop, SD for 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks delayed plant development by an average 12 days compared to LD grown plants. One, 2, or 3 weeks of SD resulted in 1 week slower flowering and 4 weeks of SD resulted in 2 weeks later flowering in Clips. The sensitivity to SD varied with plant stage in Musical. Three or 4 weeks of SD initiated at germination or 4 weeks after germination resulted in an average delayed flowering of 13 days compared to LD plants. SD initiated 8 weeks after germination had no effect on rate of development in Musical

Creative Climate and Learning Organization: Factors Contributing to Innovation within the Private Sector

Studies on innovation have suggested that organizational creative climate tends to play an important role and is a predictor for innovation. However, lately, the presence of a learning culture in organization tends to equally explain a considerable influencing effect on innovation too. This particular study examined the influence of both those variables 011 innovation and to determine which one of the two could be a better predictor for innovation. The results indicated that both learning culture and creative climate have significant contribution of 58.5% to the explanation of the observed variances in the innovation construct. The learning organization culture separately was found to have a significant stronger relationship with innovation (r = .733) than did the creative climate (r = .473) which implied a larger contribution from the learning organization variable towards innovation. Two learning organization dimensions contributed most to the variances in innovation especially the dimensions of 'Embedded Systems' and 'Systems Connection' which have significant high predictive powers on innovation (Beta = .397, p =.000; Beta = .313, p = .000 respectively) occurring within the sampled organizations as compared to the ten creative climate factors and the rest of the five learning organization dimensions. The study also found that both the creative climate and learning organization factors jointly contributed higher with significance (p = .000) at 67.6% to the explanation of the observed variances in innovation for the MNCs (R2 = .676, F = 14.427) than for the local organizations at 60.2% (R2 = .602, F = 7.476). This study involved a sample of eighteen private organizations across vanous core businesses, manufacturing, finance and insurance, consulting, property developing, engineering, telecommunication, and education services, either local organizations or MNCs within the Federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. The size of the respondents is 259. In addition, the findings showed that there were no significant differences in the mean scores (p > .05) among the three organizational job levels namely the top management, middle management and staff, in the members' perceptions on innovation, creative climate and learning culture. The study also found no significant differences in the mean scores (p > .05) among the small, medium, large and very large organizational population sizes in the members' perceptions on innovation, creative climate and learning culture

Climate induced migration became a recognized phenomenon. Due to the adverse effects of climate change, populations in certain affected areas will start to move either as a form of adaptation or because of failure to adapt thereof. The main questions raised are concerned with the rights of the people displaced. On the other hand, what obligations do states and the international community have to provide protection for these populations. This paper argues that climate migrants are not protected from both the causes and effects of climate change. The international environment governance system does not seem to have regulated the process that guarantees global environmental protection. On the other hand, if people start to move due to the effects of climate change, they will fall from the existing gaps in the international protection system. This paper also specifically looks at the moral dimension of the phenomenon of climate change, and presents why moral questioning is of value when dealing with such contentious issue. It also speaks to the no-harm principle being a fundamental principle in international law and specifically to environmental law. Despite its importance, this principle is usually neglected when formulating policies on climate change. It argues that the no-harm principle was missing from the context of Paris Agreement, and thus kept the prospects of harm in place. It does this by its commitment to industrial growth and avoiding having emission reduction targets. As well, this paper discusses how climate migrants are not adequately addressed in Paris Agreement due to certain geopolitical settings, sustaining the possibility of them remaining highly vulnerable. This paper highlights legal and moral failure of the international society towards climate change at large and towards climate migrants in particular

The Effect of Basal Bolus Insulin Administration vs. Sliding Scale Insulin on Glycemic Control in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at a Community Hospital

Evidence of effective insulin delivery by nurses can help prevent fluctuating plasma glucose levels of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the hospital setting. Information leading to better diabetes care using either basal bolus insulin administration (BBI) or sliding scale insulin (SSI) is essential for safe blood sugar values. The purpose of this project was to measure patient glycemic control after the implementation of BBI vs. SSI during a patients’ stay in the hospital. This study was a quantitative, retrospective exploratory chart review of T2DM in medical-surgical units at a Northern California community hospital. The data were collected from routine standardized point of care testing documentation on an electronic record. The study timeframe of chart reviews occurred from May 2017 to May 2018. Results suggest that SSI provided better glycemic control in hospitalized patients with T2DM. This study showed when using SSI, the average blood glucose was lower and that the estimated mean HgbA1c was lower in comparison to BBI

The growth regulators chlormequat (Cycocel), paclobutrazol (Bonzi), daminozide (B-Nine) and Bayleton 25WP (triadimefon) were studied for their ability to control plant height in seed propagated tuberous begonia (‘Nonstop’ begonias). Bayleton is a fungicide used for powdery mildew control that also has growth regulator effects. Two ml growth regulator solution was evenly sprayed on each plant two weeks after transplanting. Cycocel (500 parts per million [ppm], 1 mg active ingredient [a.i.] per plant) resulted in 23% shorter plants than the control plants 15 weeks after transplant. Bonzi (5 ppm, 0.01 mg a.i. per plant) treated begonias were 65% and Bayleton (150 mg•liter-1, 0.3 mg per plant) treated plants 43% shorter than the control plants. The number of flowers and shoots was severely reduced on plants treated with Bonzi or Bayleton. BNine was ineffective at the rate of 3000 ppm (6 mg a.i. per plant) for controlling plant height of seed propagated tuberous begonia

THE FLOUTING MAXIMS IN THE MAIN CHARACTERS’ UTTERANCES OF WE BOUGHT A ZOO MOVIE

Keywords: Cooperative Principle, Flouting Maxims, We Bought A Zoo movie People use language to communicate with others in their society. They use it to express their ideas, thoughts, messages in a conversation. One way to make the conversation becomes successful is by fulfilling The Cooperative Principle by Grice (1989). There are four maxims which need to be fulfilled in the principles namely, maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. However, in reality people sometimes disobey the maxims, and when they do that, it means that they are flouting the maxims. When flouting maxim happens, there will be implicature arises. It is an implied or intended meaning from a speaker’s utterance that is expected to be understood by the hearer. The writer conducts a study about flouting maxim in We Bought A Zoo movie. There are two problems to be solved in the study, namely: (1) What maxims are flouted in the main character’s utterances in We Bought A Zoo movie (2) What intended meaning of the utterances are being flouted by the main characters on We Bought A Zoo movie. This study uses qualitative approach since the data are in the form of words rather than number or statistics. In this study the data are the utterances of the main characters which contain flouting maxims. The data are collected and analyzed based on the theory of Cooperative Principle by Grice (1989).The result of this study reveals that all the maxims are flouted in the main character’s utterances. The intended meaning of the utterances being flouted are to emphasize a point in a conversation, to express a burden in doing something, to force someone to do something, to mock a character’s behaviour, to decline an intention, to make a joke, to hide the truth, change the subject of conversation, to give opinion, and to refuse an order. The writer suggests the next researcher to explore more about the objectives of the study such as by identifying the reason in flouting the maxim or by trying to analyze whether there is any correlation between a character’s personality or traits with their tendency to do flouting maxim in their communication
