    Get PDF
This project seeks to develop a way to elicit and visualize bias in the hiring process through the use of Markov Decision Processes, a mathematical framework for modeling decision processes. Three forms of the simulation: User-defined, Random, and Q-learning, were created and their policies were analyzed and compared. Heat Map and Donut Pie visualizations are utilized to present the Policies created from the Models. This project is designed to display the decisions as a form of countering bias during the hiring process

Christian education has grown, expanded and diversified during the late twentieth and the beginning of the twenty first century. With more emphasis being put on meeting the educational needs of diverse ages within the church, various developments have characterized adult education programs. These programs which aim at meeting adults’ spiritual and educational needs include single adults and small group ministries which provide informal times for fellowship, Bible study, caring and prayer groups. Outreach programs include the seeker services and short-term mission trips, and para-church events like Promise Keepers. This paper is a review of literature on adult education. The author makes reference to a study undertaken in Episcopal churches in the Diocese of Los Angeles within the Southern California region. The key elements discussed in this paper include a historical overview of Adult Christian Education in America where the author points out the non-formal learning context.  The paper also explains the Christian worldview integration focusing on the New Testament perspective of the goal of Christian Education. In this, the author points out some of the motives that propel spiritual maturity. Some biblical references are made such as the occasion of the Epistle to the Philippians, the message of the Epistle to the Philippians and puts forth some of the exhortations for living the Christian life with reference to Philippians 3:1-16. Finally the author discusses some of the implications for the book of Philippians chapter 3 in relation to motivation for Christian education. The purpose of the study was to explore how to create a Per-Poor innovation (PPI) approach in a way that contributes knowledge. A lot of  indigenous system research exists, but the percentage transformed into approaches, products and services is low. The study will create a low income level innovation artifact by integrating indigenous knowledge (IK) and global knowledge (GK) for Per-Poor innovators. Analogy design science research method was used to create a system of innovation proverbs. Analogy between indigenous Harambee and global sysems: Open source software, Software patterns and Kaizen was used to discover innovation rules and principles applicable to PPI. The research findings are synthesising African philosophies and provide a paradigm for integrating IK and GK. Synthesising proverbs and Theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) principles aided in the discovery of possible ways beeping innovation was created. The originality of this research is being first to create an indigenous PPI. Keywords: indigenous knowledge, Per-Poor innovation, proverbs, global knowledge, systems&nbsp

Intrinsic, Extrinsic and Pro Religious Orientation of Episcopal Church Adult Learners in Southern California

Allport and Ross’ (1967) proposed two main religious orientations: intrinsic and extrinsic. It is believed that individuals with an intrinsic orientation toward religion are those who are wholly committed toward their religious beliefs and that religiosity is evident in every aspect of their life. On the other hand, those with an extrinsic orientation use religion as a means to provide participation in a powerful in–group protection, consolation and social status. This paper is an analysis of the intrinsic, extrinsic and pro-religious orientation in relation to adult Christian education. The study focuses on Episcopal Adult learners in Southern California involving 454 conveniently sampled Episcopalian adults. Among these are 63% represented by females and 37% males all averaging 50 years of age. Religious motivation was measured using the Religious Orientation Scale (ROS) as developed by Allport and Ross (1967). Other variables like age, gender, marital status and education level and ethnicity were considered in the study. Using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey-HSD Post hoc tests, the findings were presented with all hypotheses tested at an alpha significance level of .05. For the Intrinsic scale statistically significant positive correlations were found with the Cognitive Interest (r = .33, p<.05, r2= .11) and Spiritual Growth (r = .47, p<.05, r2 = .18), factors of the Education Participation Scale (EPS). While for the Extrinsic scale, statistical significant positive correlations were found with the Social Contact (r = .33, p<.05, r2 =.11), Education Preparation (r = .38, p<.05, r2 = .15), Family Togetherness (r = .37, p<.05, r2 = .14) and Social Stimulation (r = .39, p<.05, r2 = .15) factors of the Education Participation Scale (EPS). Interestingly, there was a positive but weak correlation between both Intrinsic (r = .24, p<.05, r2= .06) and Extrinsic (r = .21, p<.05, r2= .04) scales with the Church and Community Service subscale. Majority of the participants tended to be intrinsically motivated (n=405) as compared to those who were extrinsically motivated (n=42).
