Magnetic properties of polymerized C60_{60} with Fe

We provide evidence that high-pressure high-temperature (2.5 GPa and 1040 K) treatment of mixtures of iron with fullerene powders leads to the complete transformation of iron into iron carbide Fe3_3C. The comparison of the magnetic properties (Curie temperature and magnetic moment) of the here studied samples and those for the ferromagnetic polymer Rh-C60_{60} indicates that the main ferromagnetic signal reported in those samples is due to Fe3_3C and not related to the ferromagnetism of carbon as originally interpreted. Taking into account the results obtained in this study the original paper on ``Magnetic carbon" (Nature {\bf 413}, 716 (2001)) was recently retracted.Comment: 5 Figures, 4 page

How events can influence in the customer experience at Out of the Blue Hostel: an internship storytelling

    Get PDF
The growth of tourism is not an exception to Azores Islands that saw a big increase of tourists after the low cost airlines started flying to the islands in 2015. The whole market is in a process of adaptation and hostels is a new concept to the island and very appreciated to the ones who visit it. Out of the Blue hostel's concept is to turn each stay into a unique experience. So me and the owners of the hostel were brainstorming ideas how to improve the concept and together we decided to create Out Of The Blue Family Dinners, where every evening we prepare homemade dinners and take guests out on night tours, creating moments of sharing cultures, ideas, dreams and time on the island between the guest and the staff of the hostel. In this storytelling I am presenting how I started doing events at the hostel and the process of adaptation to the tourism trends, guest and management needs in order to create a high quality experience. In the end I will present the reviews left by the guests of the hostel on various booking platforms. After 6 months the impact of the events is very visible through the guest reviews and feedbacks, team satisfaction and sales revenue.O turismo em crescimento e não é uma exceção nas Ilhas dos Açores que viu este fenomeno acontecer após as low coast começarem a voar para as ilhas em 2015. Todo o mercado está a adaptar-se e os hostels é um novo conceito na ilha e muito apreciado para o aqueles que as visitam. O conceito Out of the Blue é transformar cada estadia em uma experiência única.

The Performance Test of Anti-scattering X-ray Grid with Inclined Shielding Material by MCNP Code Simulation

    Get PDF
Background: The scattered photons cause reduction of the contrast of radiographic image and it results in the degradation of the quality of the image. In order to acquire better quality image, an anti-scattering x-ray gird should be equipped in radiography system. Materials and Methods: The X-ray anti-scattering grid of the inclined type based on the hybrid concept for that of parallel and focused type was tested by MCNP code. The MCNPX 2.7.0 was used for the simulation based test. The geometry for the test was based on the IEC 60627 which was an international standard for diagnostic X-ray imaging equipment-Characteristics of general purpose and mammographic anti-scatter grids. Results and Discussion: The performance of grids with four inclined shielding material types was compared with that of the parallel type. The grid with completely tapered type the best performance where there were little performance difference according to the degree of inclination. Conclusion: It was shown that the grid of inclined type had better performance than that of parallel one.ope

Evolution of dwarf galaxies in the Centaurus A group

We consider star formation properties of dwarf galaxies in Cen A group observed within our HST/ACS projects number 9771 and 10235. We model color-magnitude diagrams of the galaxies under consideration and measure star formation rate and metallicity dependence on time. We study environmental dependence of the galaxy evolution and probable origin of the dwarf galaxies in the group.Comment: To appear in proceedings IAU Symp 244, 'Dark Galaxies and Lost Baryons', June 200

A simple encompassing test for the deterministic and bilinear unit root models

    Get PDF
A new parameters’ encompassing test is proposed for deciding between the deterministic unit root processes with a structural break and the bilinear unit root model without such break. The test consists in testing three sets of hypotheses regarding parameters in a simple regression model. The test uses the t-ratio and F-statistics, of non-trivial distributions under the null hypothesis. The finite sample distributions for the relevant statistics are tabulated and the asymptotic distribution of the F-test is derived. The test has been applied for the daily stock price indices for 66 countries, for the period 1992-2001. The results support the conjecture that the bilinear model dominates the structural break model more often than the other way around. Also, it is likely that in practical applications the bilinear unit root process might be mistaken for the deterministic unit root process with a structural break

B,V,I - photometry of 20 dwarf irregular galaxies within 10 Mpc

CCD - photometry is presented for 20 dIrr galaxies situated in the nearby complexes CenA/M83, and CVnI as well as in the general field of the Local Volume. We present integrated magnitudes of the galaxies in B,V,I - bands and also surface brightness profiles to a median isophote mu_B ~ 28 mag /sq.arcsec. The popular Sersic parameterization of surface brightness profiles generally does a poor job of simultaneously fitting the inner cores and outer exponential surface brightness fall-offs observed in many of our targets. The observed sample is a part of a general project to image about 500 nearby (D < 10 Mpc) dwarf galaxies in multiple bands.Comment: 3 figures, accepted to the MNRA

LAM modelling of East European economies: Methodology, EU accession and privatisation

    Get PDF
The paper presents a new approach to modelling economies in transition, where the adjustment processes are often nonlinear and data series are short. The model presented in the paper, the LAM-3 model, is the latest development in a series of long-run adjustment models, used for simulation and forecasting of several East European Economies. In particular the model contains short-run equations with bilinear error correction derived from a structural vector autoregressive model. The paper also gives derivations of two long-run relationships of the model, those for full-capacity output (reformable and non-reformable labour) and the relationship linking prices, money, incomes and exchange rates. The short-run part evolves around the specification of price and wage dynamics according to the NAIRU principle. Due to the fact that series of data for Eastern European countries are short, the parameters are evaluated with the use of global optimization technique (repetitive stochastic guestimation) rather than by a traditional econometric method. The model was estimated and applied for Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovak Republic, Romania and Ukraine. For each country it consists of 3 long-run and 21 short-run relationships. Examples of simulations presented here evaluate European Union accessibility through inflation correlation measures and Aghion-Blanchard optimal speed of privatisation
