Interactions between stakeholders in Lourdes: An 'Alpha' framework approach

Purpose: Taking Lourdes as an en example, this paper aims at understanding the relationship amongst the main tourism and events industry stakeholders. Methods: To achieve the objective of the study, data were collected through interviews of key players. The results where then filtered through the 'Alpha' framework to theorise the interactions amongst stakeholders. Results: The study also provides a (1) typology of the ultimate alpha syndrome in the context of destination management; (2) typology of the delta syndrome. (3) Finally, the study argues that in destinations where there is an ultimate alpha hallmark event, or an ultimate alpha stakeholder, a situation quite similar to an anti-competitive market can arise. This situation is referred as ‘ultimate alpha tourism monopoly'. Implications: Based on the findings of this study, Destination Marketing Organisations need to ensure that there is a suitable synergy amongst all stakeholders involved in the tourism industry (and related sector), to avoid anti-competitive market 'ultimate alpha tourism monopoly' to arise

Campus numériques : analyse de dispositifs innovants

We study them along three different perspectives : the students targeted, their involvement during the training and the control in final exams. Ours results provide general materials to build such innovative systems. They are consistent with earlier general studies on innovation. They could bring some interesting development in the design of European rules for diploma.Une des actions de C@mpuSciences a été d'élaborer et de tester des dispositifs innovants. Nous présentons ici le cas de l'université Pierre et Marie Curie en formation initiale. Nous analysons ces dispositifs suivant trois axes centrés sur l'étudiant : public intéressé, participation pendant la formation, validation aux examens terminaux. Les résultats conduisent à un début de cahier des charges pour de tels dispositifs innovants, concordent avec les études générales sur l'innovation et ouvrent des perspectives dans le cadre du LMD

A calibration report for wireless sensor-based weatherboards

Sub-Saharan Africa contains the highest number of people affected by droughts. Although this can easily be mitigated through the provision of timely, reliable and relevant weather forecasts, the sparse network of weather stations in most of these countries makes this difficult. Rapid development in wireless sensor networks has resulted in weatherboards capable of capturing weather parameters at the micro-level. Although these weatherboards offer a viable solution to Africa's drought, the acceptability of such data by meteorologists is only possible if these sensors are calibrated and their field readiness scientifically evaluated. This is the contribution of this paper; we present results of a calibration exercise that was carried out to: (1) measure and correct lag, random and systematic errors; (2) determine if Perspex was an ideal material for building sensor boards' enclosures; and (3) identify sensor boards' battery charging and depletion rates. The result is a calibration report detailing actual error and uncertainty values for atmospheric pressure, humidity and temperature sensors, as well as the recharge and discharge curves of the batteries. The results further ruled out the use of Perspex for enclosing the sensor boards. These experiments pave the way for the design and implementation of a sensor-based weather monitoring system (SenseWeather) that was piloted in two regions in Kenya

Cet article décrit l'utilisation du jeu sérieux "ProgAndPlay" comme support pour un projet de programmation en C dans le cadre d'une UE transversale en première année à l'Université Pierre et Marie Curie. Il s'agit du compte-rendu d'une pratique que nous estimons positive et qui montre comment nous avons intégré un outil issu de la recherche comme support à une pédagogie de projet sur un thème plébiscité par les jeunes : un jeu vidéo
