Classifying Electrocardiogram with Machine Learning Techniques

    Get PDF
Classifying the electrocardiogram is of clinical importance because classification can be used to diagnose patients with cardiac arrhythmias. Many industries utilize machine learning techniques that consist of feature extraction methods followed by Naive- Bayesian classification in order to detect faults within machinery. Machine learning techniques that analyze vibrational machine data in a mechanical application may be used to analyze electrical data in a physiological application. Three of the most common feature extraction methods used to prepare machine vibration data for Naive-Bayesian classification are the Fourier transform, the Hilbert transform, and the Wavelet Packet transform. Each machine learning technique consists of a different feature extraction method to prepare the data for Naive-Bayesian classification. The effectiveness of the different machine learning techniques, when applied to electrocardiogram, is assessed by measuring the sensitivity and specificity of the classifications. Comparing the sensitivity and specificity of each machine learning technique to the other techniques revealed that the Wavelet Packet transform, followed by NaĂŻve-Bayesian classification, is the most effective machine learning technique

Binary and Ternary Mixtures of Eicosane with Fatty Alcohols and Fatty Acids as Phase Change Material for Building Applications

Stable phase change materials (PCMS ) of binary and ternary mixtures of organic compounds were prepared in this work to be installed in buildings for purposes of heat energy storage. Binary mixtures of PCMS as salt hydrates, paraffins were heavily investigated but most of the mixing was within the same group very few articles deal with mixing PCMS from different organic groups or mixing more than two materials. A preparation and a differential scanning calorimetry ( DSC) investigation of binary and ternary mixtures of eicosane with fatty alcohols and fatty acids were performed. The eutectic mixtures of the binary systems were determined to be( 70% eicosane – 30% cetyl alcohol ) , (50% eicosane – 50% lauric acid) and (25% eicosane – 75% capric acid ) with melting temperature and latent heat of ( 33.77 ÂșC , 237.6 J/g ) , ( 30.63 ÂșC , 207.7 J/g ) and ( 24.96 ÂșC , 200.3 J/g ) respectively . The last one is very suitable for building applications. An eutectic mixture of eicosane with myristyl alcohol from previous work was considered as a new material and used to prepare two ternary mixtures( for the first time in literature) with both Cetyl Alcohol and Capric acid . An exciting results of temperatures were obtained : 26.86 ÂșC for the first ternary mixture and 16.23 ÂșC for the second one with moderate latent heats of 133.5 J/g and 157.7 J/g. The first one is very suitable for building applications and the second one is suitable for low thermal applications .These results will open the door to try ternary mixtures of common phase change materials to obtain various melting temperatures to suit different application

The Carnivalesque in George MacDonald’s The Light Princess

In this article, I apply Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of carnival to an analysis of George MacDonald’s The Light Princess (1864). First, I define the concept of ‘carnival’ as explained in Bakhtin’s Rabelais and his World (1965). The subversive characteristic of the carnival which Bakhtin writes of is paramount in fantasy literature, of which The Light Princess exemplifies various elements. Brian Attebery says, “fantastic literature, as a literature that provokes reinterpretations of ‘reality’ and the boundaries of what is known and accepted, plays an important role in Bakhtin’s criticism” (117). Second, I provide an overview of various critical responses to the ideological function of carnival, applying a special focus on how children’s literature criticism benefits from carnival by referring to critics such as John Stephens and Maria Nikolajeva. Finally, I examine ways in which MacDonald uses the carnivalesque mode to convey his ideas of social reform

Human Dignity: A Proposal for Middle - Eastern Area of Conflict: towards an Education for Coexistence

    Get PDF
The proposed scenario is one that is hardly needed for the Middle - eastern area of conflict . It is called the " Human Dignity " proposal : Towards an Education for Coexistence. Such a project is suggested in an era where there is so much conflict in this part of (Middle –east ) and Arab world (in terms of multi- cultures, religious communities , gap- generation, and socioeconomic classes, there is a great need for broad agreement on something unifying, something that encourages and even grows a sense of human unity. That would only be through the path of "Human dignity ".The research recommends areas where different entities can participate together to implement and support the fulfillment of a great concept of " Human dignity " , such entities may include (Interfaith Coexistence Research Centers throughout  the Arab World) , educational institutions , higher education institutions , civil society , and media. Together they can work in the region to promote religious freedom and religious education aiming at achieving " Human dignity ".Human dignity comes to be the responsibility of all partners ( politicians, educators , religious leaders, and the Arab youth generations ) . Keywords: Human dignity, middle east , conflict ,education , coexistence , religious freedom , Arab world , multi-cultures
