Bologna in Vlaanderen: een aanzet tot het 'maatschappelijk debat'
In this article, the authors reflect on ten years Bologna in Flanders, with a special focus on the possible consequences for the structure of Higher Education. The dynamic character of the Bologna process urges for such a reflection. In Flanders, there is a strong emphasis on the dichotomy ‘academic-professional’, while Bologna focuses on the dichotomy ‘first-second cycle’. This explains why there is a lot of stress in Flanders on the request to possibly ‘integrate’ the academic programmes of the university colleges in the universities. The authors plea that a debate about the content and the substantive differentiation, about the quality and the finality and about embedding research, has to precede the debate about the structures without however dismissing any possible structural adaptations in advance. It is however necessary to bear in mind that the debate about ‘dichotomy’ and the debate about ‘integration’ are two different agenda’s
Collection and freezing of equine epididymal spermatozoa
The epididymis and vas deferens store an important number of fertile spermatozoa called the extragonadal sperm reserves. These stored spermatozoa can be collected in an ultimate attempt to preserve viable spermatozoa of a critically ill or dying stallion. Epididymides are collected via routine castration. After cooled transport of the testicles and epididymides, spermatozoa are collected either by retrograde flushing or by the float-up method. Retrograde flushing usually results in a much higher sperm yield and is considered the method of choice. Epididymal spermatozoa can be frozen using standard freezing protocols
Formal management of object behavior with statechart DNA
We introduce and explore a new statechart (sc) abstraction method. We define simplified statecharts (ssc) and discuss the use of action abstraction in ssc models. We isolate sc DNA from UML sc models, and show how this sc DNA can be used to define behavior model metrics and more generally, to manage object behavior
Oviductal and uterine leiomyomata in mares
This paper describes a case of a sessile uterine leiomyoma in a 17-year-old chronic infertile Selle Francais mare. The mass was removed by transendoscopic electrocoagulation. In the same period, 725 mares were screened for oviductal and uterine solid masses in a slaughterhouse survey. Two uterine masses and one oviductal mass were detected in three different mares. Histological and immunohistochemical examination revealed leiomyoma in the four masses. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of an oviductal leiomyoma in a mare
