Kinetics of the photolysis of benzenetricarbonylchromium(0) in chloroform
In contrast to the photolysis of Cr(CO)3(C6H6) in nonhalogenated solvents, in which the products are CrL(CO)2(C6H6) in the presence of a donor L, or Cr(CO)6 and C6H6 if no donor is present, the photo-reaction in chloroform yields CrCl3. No significant portion of the reaction occurs through absorption of 254nm light by CHCl3âą The quantum yield is 1.4, consistent with a mechanism in which several radicals are formed upon chlorination of the chromium, which then cause further decomposition of the reactant. In 24% CCl4, the reaction still occurs primarily through the excited state metal complex, but there is a solvent-initiated contribution, which is more significant the lower the reactant concentration. The quantum yield for the solvent-initiated pathway is 0.3 in 24% CCL4
Distribution of Molidae in the northern Gulf of Mexico
We compiled all available sighting, stranding and bycatch data for the Family Molidae (molas) in the northern Gulf of Mexico (NGOM) to assess spatial and temporal distribution. Overall, 483 records were collected from shipboard and aerial surveys, fisheries bycatch, and strandings. Molas were recorded year-round, with a ubiquitous distribution in both nearshore and offshore waters. Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) were sighted with greatest frequency during the winter (December thru April) in sea surface temperature \u3c 24° C. Potential reasons for increased sightings during winter may be related to the lack of a well-defined thermocline in the NGOM; the species\u27 basking behavior associated with thermoregulation; and oxygen replenishment after long, deep dives to oxygen-deficient depths

Integrating Foreign Healthcare Workers into the Japanese Healthcare System: An Overview
Japan, facing an ageing population and a shortage of healthcare professionals, is increasingly attempting to rely on foreign nurses to address these challenges. This overview examines the role of foreign nurses in Japanâs healthcare sector and the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs). EPAs have played a significant role in facilitating the entry of foreign nurses into Japanâs healthcare system, promoting international cooperation, and addressing labour shortages. This report delves into the impact of EPAs on the recruitment of foreign nurses. It also discusses the issues associated with retaining those nurses in the long term.departmental bulletin pape
Kinetics of the photosubstitution of cis-bis(benzonitrile)dichloroplatinum(II) in chloroform
Under 254 nm irradiation cis-[Pt(C6H5CN)2Cl2] is converted to H2PtCl6. Absorption of light by both the metal complex and the solvent contribute to the first step of this process, suggested to form HPt(C6H5CN) Cl3. A linear dependence of the reaction rate on light intensity appears to rule out chlorination by trichloromethyl radicals. However, at higher light intensities a higher order dependence on intensity develops, and under 313 nm irradiation is dominant, and a reaction between trichloromethyl radical and the excited state complex is proposed to account for this
Review of \u3ci\u3eGreat Lonely Places of the Texas Plains\u3c/i\u3e Poems by Walt McDonald
Both of them winners of major awards, poet Walt McDonald and photographer Wyman Meinzer link their work in a volume that can be read profitably three ways: studying the brilliantly lighted color photographs; reading the moving, story-directed poems; or experiencing the ways both sets of works engage each other. The book\u27s production is beautiful, and the consistent high quality of poems and photographs makes one revisit their memorably precise images and phrases. In places the land of the Plains is seen as sparsely fertile, even parched, and its people, we see, have lived close to grief; but what emerges in both poetic and visual presentations is a powerful beauty.
Time and again Meinzer and McDonald suggest ways that climate and land modify people; they also emphasize the resilience of inhabitants developing their lives in rural settings. Still, throughout the work-whether one is reading the color photographs or viewing the people depicted in the poems-there\u27s harmony in the juxtaposition of the two artistic forms.
In a representative poem titled Luck of the Draw, McDonald conjures fresh metaphors when he compares water-witching to prophecy and drilling water wells to creation. Instead of sentimentalizing the capacity for endurance of a couple living out their lives on a farm, McDonald calls home a casino / of chance and choice, / four arms that hold each other. Time and again love rises to attention. Appropriately facing this particular poem, Meinzer\u27s photograph shows storm clouds outlined radiantly by a hidden sun. Here and throughout the volume, we see parallels between people and nature articulated vividly but obliquely
