    Get PDF
Competition policy in the banking sector is complicated by the necessity of maintaining financial stability. Greater competition may be good for (static) efficiency, but bad for financial stability. The issues regarding banking competition and its effects are of particular interest in transition countries, as bank credit there is by far the largest source of external finance for companies. This paper investigates the interrelationships among bank competition, efficiency and stability in Albania banking system and it compare with other transition countries. Initially had an increase in banking competition where the level of efficiency also has been growing and stability indicators have been generally good, but further intensifying competition has been associated with increased fragility of the banking system and reduced the level of efficiency. In the case of Albania the margin net interest as an efficiency indicator reacts negatively against the increase of non-performing loans degree. So, their levels and dynamics should be constantly supervised by policy-makers, assessing their implications and preparing the necessary measures.Banking competition, bank efficiency, financial stability

Do soilless culture systems have an influence on product quality of vegetables?

    Get PDF
In the horticulture industry, the focus has traditionally been on yield. However, consumers’ interest worldwide in the quality of horticultural products has increased in the recent past and will become the driving force in the future. Soilless culture systems (SCSs), the most intensive production method in today’s horticulture industry, are based on environmentally friendly technology, which can result in higher yields, even in areas with adverse growing conditions. However, using SCSs does not automatically result in the production of high-quality vegetables. Numerous studies confirm that a SCS enables growers to produce vegetables without quality losses compared to soil cultivation. An adaptation of cultural management to the specific cultural system, as well as crop demand, can further result in the improvement of the quality of horticultural products

Parliament Immunity And Building Democracy In Kosovo

    Get PDF
This research aims to study the parliamentary immunity and its relation with principles of democracy, by providing concrete explanations on how this matter is regulated in Kosovo. This work does not insist on classical interpretations, but it rather aims for better understanding of the conceptual history of the parliamentary immunity, intending to leave aside its abstract dimensions and analyzing it as an institution with strict and applicable rules and practices. This research examines the close relationship between parliamentary immunity and human rights as seen under the light of interpretations of European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) and Kosovo’s Constitutional Court. It is argued further that parliamentary immunity is essentially a national phenomenon which belongs to constitutional norms that regulate national institution’s competences and functions. However, as with many other law institutes, even the parliamentary immunity has not been immune to “law internationalization”. Despite the fact that European countries have different approaches to parliamentary immunity, they are all subjects of norms deriving from the European system of human rights

Micro-credits in Albania are a segment of the economy which is emergent recently. The main activities in this sector are: alimentary shops, bakeries, wood and metal processing units, constructions, dairies, and boutiques etc. located mainly in developed areas. As a matter of fact the rural area is still living in problematic conditions compared with the other parts of Albania. In Albania many banks and non-financial institutions offer savings and loan opportunities but for different reasons, which will be also analyzed, individuals in need cannot receive them. The government on the other hand provided many facilities but none of the policies was able to minimize at least their conditions. This project aims to investigate the effectiveness of Albanian banks to the micro sectors, by analyzing the statistics which might bring development for these sectors. The situation of the government strategies and the main risks micro credits might cause. The outlines of the research will be based on the evaluation of the economic indicators with the micro credits movements. At the end the research study will present some suggestions regarding the improving of the financing opportunities of micro sector, contributing thus to the poverty minimization

The intention of this paper is to assess the established methods of teaching inAlbania and give a figure of the techniques used in direct relation with the well-knownpositive or negative sides in a given time period. Mainly teaching contains two majorcomponents: distributing and getting information. This study aims to explore the successand problems of the whole teaching and learning process by testing methods and come outwith new alternatives. The result of the research specifies that activities which consist ofteaching strategies and classroom management helped promote interaction and motivationfor learning even in a large class. More specifically this project focuses on techniques toimprove student engagement and increase the classroom learning activities

All I do is win, win, win no matter what? Pre-game anxiety and experience predict athletic performance in the NBA

    Get PDF
In this study, we examine the relationship between anxiety and athletic performance, measuring pre-game anxiety in a corpus of 12,228 tweets of 81 National Basketball Association (NBA) players using an anxiety inference algorithm, and match this data with certified NBA individual player game performance data. We found a positive relationship between pre-game anxiety and athletic performance, which was moderated by both player experience and minutes played on the court. This paper serves to demonstrate the use case for using machine learning to label publicly available micro-blogs of players which can be used to form important discrete emotions, such as pre-game anxiety, which in turn can predict athletic performance in elite sports. Based on the results, we discuss these findings and outline recommendations for athletes, teams, team leaders, coaches, and managers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Performance of Different Tomato Genotypes in the Arid Tropics of Sudan during the Summer Season. II. Generative Development

    Get PDF
Eleven tomato genotypes of diverse origin were grown in Shambat, University of Khartoum, Sudan, in a randomized block design with three replications for two successive seasons (2002/2003, 2003/2004). The same genotypes were firstly evaluated under glasshouse conditions at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany during 2002. Highly significant differences were encountered among the different genotypes for most of the generative characters, such as number of days to flowering, number of flowers per plant, number of fruits per plant, fruit fresh weight per plant and fruit set percentage. Based on results obtained from this study, the genotype ‘Summerset’ proved to be high yielding under high temperature conditions in comparison to other genotypes

Influence of heat shock pretreatment on growth and development of tomatoes under controlled heat stress conditions

    Get PDF
The effect of a previous heat shock (HS) on growth and development of different tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivars under defined heat stress (HSt) conditions were investigated. Plants were grown under two day/night temperature regimes (26/20 ºC and 37/27 ºC, respectively) in growth chambers at the Department of Vegetable Crops, Institute for Horticultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture, Humboldt University of Berlin. The experiments were conducted twice and were set up in a randomized design with five replicates. The reproductive processes in tomato were more sensitive to high temperatures than the vegetative ones. The number of pollen grains, number of fruits and fruit fresh masses produced by the heat tolerant cultivars were higher than those of the heat sensitive cultivars. However, HS pretreatments had no positive effects on tomato growth and development
