The objective of this study is the research of specificlanguage impairments as manifested inSlovene language. The research focuses on languageprocessing in order to determine syntactic, deficit. It has been predicted, that SLI children will meetwith difficulties in the language of all elements thatmark syntactic dependency. The research has been carried out on a sample of 71children with SLI and of 71 children with normallanguage development, all pupils from first tofourth grade of primary school. The children fromboth groups were matched by sex, socio-economicstatus and school environment. This study presents an analysis of repetitions of tensentences designed in such way that some syntacticelements have been varied. The variables of language processing and those ofmorpho syntactic command were obtained from theelicited repetition task (including different syntacticallycomplex structures). The results show, that SLI children use certainstructure less frequently than age controls and thatthere are not only statistically important differencesin the majority of the sentences with differentsyntactic complexity, but also that the tasks appliedcan differentiate specific language impairments aswell. The research has put up some syntactic deficitof SLI in Slovene language as they can be identifiedby means of targeted sentences. In syntax, children with SLI have problemswith depended relations, with languageprocessing and structuring of coordinate andsubordinate clauses and also in the simplesentences. Furthermore, they have problems withsubject-predicate agreement and, when they repeatsentences, with coordinate elements

The enigma machine : unravelling the domestic experience

Bibliography: p. 90-93.In today's capitalist society, the environment of the home has become increasingly insular. Though there may be television, Internet and other forms of technology that connect one to the 'outside world', time spent indoors is for many people time spent alone. My body of work is concerned with an individual's experience within the confines of the home, where the exterior (physical space) becomes a reflection of the individual's interior experience

Does the underground sidewall station survey method meet MHSA standards?

The accuracy of all underground surveying is regulated by the standards described in the South African Mine Health and Safety Act. Four categories of accuracy is described. This pa-per describes the evaluation of accuracy standards of a typically configured sidewall station survey network in a narrow mine tunnel environment. The sidewall system lends itself to re-duced risk exposure and greater efficiency coupled with added redundancy normally not found in standard underground networks. The question is asked whether or not this method of sur-veying will meet the MHSA standards of accuracy that was developed for typical hangingwall traverse type networks. Results obtained from a survey closure using a network of clusters of four sidewall stations demonstrates that under the described circumstances it will provide ac-curacies that are within the minimum standards of accuracy of a Class “A” survey as pre-scribed by the Mine Health and Safety Act. It was found that a survey of the same network using clusters of only two sidewall stations method could not provide the same closure results over longer distances, but that this system lends itself well to Class “C” type surveys for re-connaissance and measuring purposes. Results indicated that the second method of surveying appears to have a greater probability of severe bearing error propagation over distances in excess of 180m and would require regular check surveys in order to strengthen the network. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of the sidewall survey system are discussed to pro-vide a better understanding of the application of this method of surveying on South African mines

The role of God in the father/son relationship during identity formation – a Gestalt theoretical perspective

This article is based on research done within the Afrikaansspeaking community in the area of the Drakenstein Municipality, Western Cape province, South Africa. The focus falls specifically on one concept that was outlined during the research, namely the perceptions of fathers and adolescent sons on identity formation within their relationship as well as the role that God plays. Combined qualitative/quantitative research was conducted with emphasis on semi-structured interviews with fathers (n=4) and adolescent boys (n=4) and an auto-ethnography of the author as the dominant component. The lessdominant quantitative component consisted of questionnaires completed by fathers (n=42) and adolescent boys (n=180). Metatheoretical assumptions and theoretical assumptions as grounding for the male identity are discussed as part of the author’s paradigmatic perspective. Furthermore, empirical findings are discussed and recommendations are made. From the discussions with fathers and their sons it was clear that both fathers and sons have a need to stand in close relationship to each other and to God. It is within this relationship where their identities are formed. However, fathers seemed to be resistant of transferring their beliefs to their sons. Adolescent boys also indicated no need to one day transfer learned behaviour from their fathers to their sons
