The paper will shortly present some of the conclusions from my Ph.D. dissertation “Or-ganic Food Consumption between the Market, Everyday Life and Vision of a Sustainable Food Culture” (2006). I will discuss how to develop the organic food consumption in a sustainable direc-tion and how to understand food consumption as part of everyday life and the food culture in gen-eral

Introduction to multivariate statistics for field ornithologists : principal component analysis, discriminant analysis and cluster analysis

This practically oriented introduction deals with potentialities and limitations of the use of multivariate statistics in field ornithology. Principal Component Analysis, Discriminant Analysis and Cluster Analysis belong to the most important multivariate statistical techniques in ecological research. This paper introduces the theoretical basics and also offers guidance on the application of these techniques. Furthermore, indicators of the quality of analysis and possibilities of interpretation are discussed for each technique and demonstrated on the basis of an empirical example

Anthropometric Measures of Hadza Forager Children and Juveniles: Implications for Anthropology and Human Biology

Understanding growth trajectories during child development is important for the fields of human biology, public health, medicine, and evolutionary medicine. To date, the majority of current references for childhood development and health are primarily derived from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To ensure a child is developing properly, is equipped with proper nutrition, and will sustain a healthy life through adolescence and adulthood, these measurements and standards are necessary. The current study aims to test whether or not these standards are applicable in non-industrial small-scale societies where differences from western populations include diet composition, environmental pressures, climate, economic activity, mortality rates, and childhood physical activity levels

A rotating mirror camera constructed from simple components is described, which can be adapted to the dimensions of the process to be filmed by interchanging the optical equipment in front of the rotating mirror. Frequeney range; 20,000-300,000 i/s., image scale between 1 : 10 and 5 : 1.On decrit ici une camera a miroir giratoire, construite a partir d'e1ements simples, et susceptible de s'adapter a l'ordre de grandeur du phenomene a photographier; il suffit de changer la partie de l' optique placee devant le miroir giratoire. Domaine de frequences; de 20000 a 300000 i/s; echelle de reproduction situee entre 1 : 10 et 5 : 1

Attachment patterns, prejudice, and empathy

No full text
The purpose of my PhD is to examine one mechanism by which attachment security may lead to decreased prejudice, thus examining novel research hypotheses. Research supports the prediction that high attachment avoidance and high attachment anxiety are associated with high negativity toward outgroups (Hofstra, van Oudenhoven, & Buunk, 2005) and decreased empathy compared to individuals low in attachment avoidance or anxiety (e.g., Batson, Eklund, Chermok, Hoyt, & Ortiz, 2007). However, whereas fearful individuals characteristically use hyperactivating strategies to avoid rejection from others, dismissing individuals use deactivating strategies to avoid contact with others. Thus, it is important to assess how empathy influences the relation between attachment avoidance and prejudice, and between attachment anxiety and prejudice. I hypothesized that empathy would mediate the relation between attachment dimensions and prejudice. Specifically, I predicted that the relation between attachment avoidance and prejudice, and between attachment anxiety and prejudice, would be mediated by low empathy. Dispositional attachment security and primed attachment security were examined separately in three studies. In the Study 1 the mediating role of empathy in the relationship between dispositional attachment security and prejudice was identified. In Study 2 the mediating role of empathy on the relationship between primed attachment pattern and prejudice was confirmed, providing specificity as to which aspect of empathy is the key component through which prejudice can be reduced in attachment-avoidant individuals. Study 3 extends the findings to demonstrate that primed attachment security influences self-reported intention to discriminate and subsequent discriminatory behaviour. Combined, the findings within this thesis make valuable contributions to social psychological understanding of why variations in prejudice toward Muslims exist, and provide evidence that have important implications in future interventions aimed to reduce prejudice<br/

Intergenerational Discipleship at St. Paul\u27s Smoke Church

Get PDF
Intergenerational ministry through discipleship is found in the archetype of Christ and His disciples. St. Paul’s Smoke Church in Windsor Township, Pennsylvania, has impacted and influenced the area through many centuries in the generational call to follow Christ. The church has seen its ebbs and flows. In the past decade, membership has tremendously decreased, but the heart of love for God and its community is lasting. The pandemic of COVID-19 had limited ministry in the traditional sense. Still, the unorthodox ways of ministry were sought out and employed to continue St. Paul’s Smoke Church in its operation and functionality while hoping for growth. Sunday service was the strong anchor while prayer, encouragement, and practical solutions were the substance of ministry. Research methods include observation, first-hand knowledge, demographic data, interviews, surveys, and a Bible study on discipleship. The study shows that intergenerational ministry in love toward one another cannot be stopped by rules and regulations and in fact, causes many to walk closer with the Lord. The project does open a door to many other subtopics of research including successes, showing what worked, and failures, showing what was not working, in ministry during the pandemic. Further research should branch into church preparedness and prevention for the future existence of the church in power and authority outreaching with love into the world
