    The Role of Technology in Music Education: a Survey of Computer Usage in Teaching Music in Colleges of Education in The Volta Region, Ghana

    The study sought to find out the role of computer technology in music education in Colleges of Education in the Volta Region of Ghana. It aimed at surveying the use of computer technology for teaching music and exploring the instructional prospects for computer technology usage in music in Colleges of Education. The study employed Rogersā€™ Diffusion Innovation theory and descriptive survey research method. Data was collected from the respondents using questionnaire, interview, and observation. The study revealed that even though about 90% of the music tutors have good academic qualification and over five years teaching experience, lack of competence in handling computer technology in teaching music among some music tutors and incoherent ICT initiatives hindered proper application of computer technology in the field of music education. It is however envisaged that increasing access and coherent computer technology initiatives will be paramount for the teaching of music in the Colleges of Education

    Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui opini masyarakat Surabaya mengenai corporate identity ARTOTEL Surabaya. ARTOTEL merupakan sebuah hotel butik yang bertema seni rupa kontemporer Indonesia pertama di Surabaya. Dengan memilih identitas yang berbeda dari hotel lain, sangat penting bagi ARTOTEL untuk membentuk opini positif dari masyarakat Surabaya, yakni tempat hotel ini berada. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif, dengan menggunakan metode survei. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan opini masyarakat Surabaya mengenai corporate identity ARTOTEL Surabaya cenderung netral. Netral disini bukan berarti responden tidak memihak setuju atau tidak setuju, mereka memberikan tanggapan positif bagi sebagian corporate identity, dan sebagian lagi mereka beri tanggapan negatif

    In Search for Comprehensive Philosophy of Music Education in Ghana

    DOI: 10.7176/JEP/11-9-21 Publication date:March 31st 2020 Ā  One of the critical issues in the philosophy of music involves a study of basic questions regarding understanding music or musical meaning; what music is, how people perceive music in the context of their culture, how cultural perceptions influence music and what is the relationship between music and emotions. One discipline that is so complex to define is music. Many philosophers and ethnomusicologists did a lot of works in defining music yet the fact still remains that none of these giants was able to holistically define what music really is. Many people have different views and definitions about music. These differences emanate from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. No person defines music better than the one from that particular cultural setting. ā€œMusic is an immersive sonic and social phenomenon that is at once both physical and emotional. Communication takes place through the processes of musical creation, performance and response (processes which are by no means discrete from each other), and music carries multiple meanings, communal and individual, intentional and unpredictable. People turn to music every day throughout their lives to create a sense of identity, to connect with others and to express, reflect and change their emotions. Music is a pervasive feature of life. This paper focuses on the Philosophy of Music Education like any other discipline and I tried to express my opinion from the Ghanaian cultural perspective. There are people who define music as pleasant sound that appeals to the ear. However, what sounds pleasant in one cultural setting will possibly be a noise in other setting. Others define music as singing and dancing neglecting very vital constituents of the discipline.     Assessing the causal failures of emerging manufacturing SMEs in Johannesburg

(Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, Graduate School of Business Administration, 2015.This report provides an examination of reasons that may be responsible for the failure of start-up manufacturing small to medium enterprises (SMEs) or businesses in Johannesburg, South Africa. The high failure rate of manufacturing SMEs can be, to some extent ascribed, to the following factors: The lack of support that the small, medium and micro-enterprises receive from Government and its policies, lack of sponsorship from well-established organisations that could provide SMEs with commercial advantages such as legitimacy of the brand, and also their own internal processes that are weak in organisational design and execution of strategies. While it is well-known that the SME sector is regarded as the major contributor to any economy, it can be highlighted that the failure of most businesses could also be as a result of common causes such as lack of entrepreneurial mindset and financing, due to lack of up-skilling, inability to meet customer requirements and international standards certification. This research study was exploratory in nature, descriptive and employed a qualitative and quantitative analysis. A research instrument was presented by email and also physically sent to the respondents by the researcher and delegates and semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The results of the study indicated that the most common causes of SMME failure are lack of Government funding, lack of coaching and mentorship and high interest rates and taxes. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were developed to try and minimise the failure rate currently crippling SMMEs. The study recommends that the South African Government should review its SMME governing policies and make them more flexible towards SMME establishment. Government should also create transparent communication channels between start-up SMEs and bigger organisations within the same field of interest and also sponsorship for additional studies to be conducted based on SMME failure. Should these recommendations be properly implemented, the failure levels of SMMEs could be reduced, not only in Johannesburg but across South Africa as a whole

    Pengaruh Peran Guru Terhadap Kecerdasan Spiritual Siswa MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru

    Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi dengan adanya fenomena yang terjadi dilapangan yakni di MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru. Berdasarkan hasil observasi  bahwasannya terdapat kurangnya kecerdasan spiritual siswa, terlihat dari siswa yang lalai dalam melaksanakan sholat, berkata kasar dan tidak menunjukkan sikap sabar. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini ialah apakah ada pengaruh peran guru terhadap kecerdasan spiritual siswa MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru. Manfaat penelitian ini ialah secara teoritis, hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat dalam penulisan karya ilmiah terkhusus dengan judul pengaruh peran guru terhadap kecerdasan spiritual siswa. Secara praktis, hasil penelitian harapkan mampu menjadi evaluasi guru matapelajaran dalam meningkatkan kecerdasan spiritual siswa dengan menciptakan program baru untuk menunjang kecerdasan spiritual siswa yang lebih baik. Populasi penelitian ini ialah siswa MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru yang berjumlah 953 siswa. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 144 siswa dengan teknik proporsional sampling yaitu pengambilan sampel 15% dari jumlah keseluruhan populasi. Metode pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, angket, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi literatur. Pengolahan data dengan teknik analisis kuantitatif dengan rumus regresi linear sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tentang Pengaruh Peran Guru Terhadap Kecerdasan Spiritual Siswa MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru, maka dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa terdapat Pengaruh Peran Guru Terhadap Kecerdasan Spiritual Siswa MAN 2 Kota Pekanbaru yaitu sebesar 17,1%

    ABSTRACTThis paper analyzes social capital as an important factor for teachers who are gathered in the MGMP (Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran) organization in the formation of teacher competencies which include; pedagogic competence, personality competence, social competence and professional competence. The purpose of this study is to analyze; 1) social capital and 2) the role of social capital in MGMP-PPKn SMA to form teacher competence in Pekanbaru City. The subjects in this study were administrators and members of the PPKn MGMP, the determination of research subjects (informants) was carried out by purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques through 1) Data Collection 2) Data Reduction 3) Data display, and 4) Data verification. The findings in this study are that the application of social capital in organizations is carried out with three main elements as pillars of togetherness, namely; 1) trust, 2) norms and 3) network. In this study, it does not claim that educator certificates are proof of teacher competence based on policies/laws. However, to get MGMP members to achieve teacher certificates, the findings of this study are that "social capital" has become a part of growing and being maintained and socialized in their togetherness, in other words the social capital in the MGMP organization has played a major role in bringing teachers to achievement, careers and positions in the world of education as a manifestation of the formation of teacher competence itself.Keywords: Social Capital, Teacher Competencies, MGMP, Civic EducationABSTRAKTulisan ini menganalisis modal sosial sebagai faktor penting bagi guru yang terhimpun dalam organisasi MGMP (Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran) dalam pembentukan kompetensi guru yang meliputi; kompetensi pedagogik, kompetensi kepribadian, kompetensi sosial dan kompetensi profesional. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis; 1) modal sosial dan 2) peran modal sosial dalam MGMP-PPKn SMA membentuk kompetensi Guru di Kota Pekanbaru. Subjek dalam penelitian ini ialah pengurus dan anggota MGMP PPKn, penentuan subjek penelitian (informan) dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data melalui 1) Pengumpulan Data 2) Reduksi Data 3) Display data, dan 4) Verifikasi data. Temuan dalam penelitian ini bahwa penerapan modal sosial pada organisasi dilakukan dengan tiga unsur utama sebagai pilar kebersamaan yaitu; 1) kepercayaan, 2) norma dan 3) jaringan. Dalam penelitian ini sama sekali tidak mengklaim bahwa sertifikat pendidik adalah pembuktian kompetensi guru berdasarkan kebijakan/UU. Namun, untuk sampai anggota MGMP meraih sertifikat guru, maka temuan penelitian ini bahwa ā€modal sosialā€ telah menjadi bagian tumbuh dan terjaga serta tersosialisasi dalam kebersamaan mereka, dengan kata lain modal sosial yang ada dalam organisasi MGMP menjadi andil besar telah mengantarkan guru ke prestasi, karier dan jabatan dalam dunia pendidikan sebagai manifestasi dari terbentuknya kompetensi guru itu sendiri.Kata Kunci: Modal Sosial, Kompetensi Guru, MGMP, PPKnĀ 

    KADER DESA PEDULI PEMILU DAN PEMILIHAN SEBAGAI FASILITATOR PENDIDIKAN PEMILIH GUNA MENINGKATKAN PARTISIPASI POLITIK MASYARAKAT

    Abstrak: Pemilihan umum (pemilu) serentak 2024 semakin dekat, salah satu strategi KPU sebagai penyelenggara pemilu untuk mendongkrak angka partisipasi masyarakat adalah melalui program kader desa peduli pemilu dan pemilihan. Program ini berintikan pada pemberdayaan masyarakat desa/kelurahan untuk menjadi fasilitator Pendidikan pemilih bagi sesama. Tulisan ini merupakan hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat (PKM) yang dilakukan oleh dosen PPKn Universitas Riau di Kota Dumai. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah Sosialisasi dan Diskusi kepada masyarakat yang telah dilantik dan diberikan Amanah sebagai kader desa peduli pemilu dan pemilihan. Sosialisasi dimulai dengan penjabaran aturan hukum mengenai program, tujuan dan apa peran penting yang dapat dimainkan oleh kader sebagai fasilitator Pendidikan pemilih sedangkan Diskusi dimulai dengan kegiatan brainstorming, ceramah dan tanya jawab. Berdasarkan survey yang dilakukan pada akhir kegiatan didapati hasil sebagai berikut (1) kader menjadi lebih memahami peran dan fungsinya sebagai fasilitator Pendidikan pemilih; (2) kader menjadi lebih termotivasi dalam melaksanakan tugasnya.Abstract: The 2024 simultaneous general elections (elections) are getting closer, one of the KPU's strategies as election organizers to boost the community participation rate is through the village cadre program that cares about elections and elections. This program is based on empowering rural/kelurahan communities to become facilitators of voter education for others. This program is similar to the volunteer democracy program that was launched ahead of the 2014 and 2019 elections, but the difference lies in the burden of work and funding. This paper is the result of community service activities (PKM) carried out by a PPKn lecturer at Riau University in Dumai City. The method used in this service activity is socialization and discussion to the community who have been appointed and given the mandate as village cadres who care about elections and elections. The socialization begins with the elaboration of the legal rules regarding the program, its objectives and what important role can be played by cadres as facilitators of voter education, while the discussion begins with brainstorming, lectures and question and answer activities. Based on the survey conducted at the end of the activity, the following results were found: (1) cadres have a better understanding of their roles and functions as facilitators of voter education; (2) cadres become more motivated in carrying out their duties

    Pengaruh Program Asrama Terhadap Pembentukan Karakter Mandiri Peserta Didik SMA Negeri Pintar Provinsi Riau

    Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh adanya fenomena yang muncul berdasarkan observasi yang dilakukan di SMA Negeri Pintar Provinsi Riau bahwasanya terdapat 50% peserta didik SMA Negeri Pintar Provinsi Riau yang belum mandiri. Hal ini terlihat dari peserta didik didalam melakukan tugas dan kewajibannya diasrama harus disuruh oleh pembina asrama terlebih dahulu, masih bergantung kepada orang lain untuk menyelesaikan tugas dan kewajibannya dan tidak bertanggung jawab terhadap tugas dan kewajibannya diasrama. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Apakah ada Pengaruh Program Asrama terhadap Pembentukan Karakter di SMA Negeri Pintar Provinsi Riau. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu observasi, wawancara, angket/kuesioner dan dokumentasi. Pengolahan data dengan analisis statistik dengan rumus regresi linear sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil uji signifikansi regresi linear sederhana F hitung > F tabel yaitu 39,885 > 4,07 dengan demikian Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima yang berarti variabel X berpengaruh terhadap variabel Y
