Coworker Distributive Fairness Judgments of the Workplace Accomodations of Employees with Disabilities
[Excerpt] I present a model of when and how coworkers judge the distributive fairness of workplace accommodations of employees with disabilities. Fairness judgments are made when accommodations are salient and relevant to coworkers. I thus present factors influencing the salience and relevance of accommodation. I also argue that fairness judgments are based on equity and need rules and therefore explore factors influencing equity comparisons and perceived warrantedness. Finally, I suggest directions and ideas for future research

New Modes of Governance in Europe: Policy Making without Legislating? IHS Political Science Series: 2002, No. 81
The article analyzes new modes of governance in Europe. Firstly, different types of new governance, the open coordination method and voluntary accords, and their individual elements are identified. The theoretical discussion about them points out the reasons of their emergence, their mode of operation and the links to the âclassicalâ forms of decision-making. Secondly the simple question of the relative importance of new modes of governance in European policy-making is raised. Looking at the policy measures from the beginning of 2000 until July 2001, the analysis found that only a minority of measures can be considered new modes of governance, defined in the above terms. A third question raised concerns political institutional capacity. Finally the question or instrumental capacity or effectiveness is raised
Bobbin lace : it's economic and social role in Gozo
Lace making is a traditional art on the Island of Gozo and many Gozitans are extremely proud of their unique and valued bobbin lace works. Lace not only once fulfilled an economic role within the lives of the Gozitans; it also had a significant social aspect to fulfill. On present day Gozo, handmade lace has not retained its important economic role as it has been replaced in the recent past with factory and tourist related jobs; as well as the fact that the price of lace has not kept up with the cost to weave these intricate pieces. Not only is the reasons for the decline in laceâs economic function a focus, so is whether or not this art form will continue after the current older generation of Gozitans are gone. This is an important question to be asked since Gozitan lace is distinctive from any other form of lace and it is a highly prized item by Gozitan and foreigners alike. The capacity in which lace will continue is significant and what is being done by the people themselves to save this art form is also taken into consideration.peer-reviewe
