Kunst kan wellicht een meerwaarde geven aan gebiedsontwikkeling door mensen op een andere manier te betrekken bij het gebied. Ethical development of artificial amniotic sac and placenta technology: a roadmap

In this paper we present an initial roadmap for the ethical development and eventual implementation of artificial amniotic sac and placenta technology in clinical practice. We consider four elements of attention: (1) framing and societal dialogue; (2) value sensitive design, (3) research ethics and (4) ethical and legal research resulting in the development of an adequate moral and legal framework. Attention to all elements is a necessary requirement for ethically responsible development of this technology. The first element concerns the importance of framing and societal dialogue. This should involve all relevant stakeholders as well as the general public. We also identify the need to consider carefully the use of terminology and how this influences the understanding of the technology. Second, we elaborate on value sensitive design: the technology should be designed based upon the principles and values that emerge in the first step: societal dialogue. Third, research ethics deserves attention: for proceeding with first-in-human research with the technology, the process of recruiting and counseling eventual study participants and assuring their informed consent deserves careful attention. Fourth, ethical and legal research should concern the status of the subject in the AAPT. An eventual robust moral and legal framework for developing and implementing the technology in a research setting should combine all previous elements. With this roadmap, we emphasize the importance of stakeholder engagement throughout the process of developing and implementing the technology; this will contribute to ethically and responsibly innovating health care.Research into fetal development and medicin

Adult Neuroblastoma: A Report of Two Cases

Neuroblastoma is an uncommon tumour arising from neural crest tissue. It is predominantly a tumour of childhood with a peak incidence in the first 3 years of life. In the USA the incidence is only about 500 paediatric cases per year. In adults it is an even more rare tumour. In 1986 Allan et al. spoke of a total of 39 reported cases of adult neuroblastoma in the world literature, with exception of some additional reports of cerebral neuroblastoma and peripheral neuro-epithelioma. Cardiac size in the supine chestfilm

The aim of this study was to find a normal value for the cardiac size in the supine position because such a standard is hardly known in the literature. Cardiac size in the erect and supine positions were compared in 165 patients in whom both chest radiographs were performed prior to kidney transplantation. For cardiac size as well as for cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) there is a linear relation between the measured values in the two positions which allows to determine the cardiac size in the supine position from a radiograph taken in the erect position and thus to determine whether cardiac enlargement exists in a supine chest film. A survey of 100 patients without cardiac or pulmonary pathology showed 16 patients with a heart size over 15 cm, the upper limit of normal as established over 20 years ago, which suggests that nowadays a new standard might be set. If so, the upper limit of normal CTR is 0.55 in the erect and 0.58 in the supine position. Kunst in gebiedsontwikkeling van Haarzuilens : wat draagt locatietheater bij aan gebiedsontwikkelingsprocessen?

Een verkennend onderzoek naar de meerwaarde van locatiespecifiek theater in gebiedsontwikkeling. Het onderzoek richt zich op de mate van interactie tussen voorstellingen en de specifieke locatiekenmerken van het gebied en onderzoekt hoe de voorstellingen worden ervaren door publiek en gebiedsontwikkelaars. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd door middel van een literatuurstudie, kwantitatief publieksonderzoek en kwalitatieve interviews met de gebiedspartners. Uit de analyse van de resultaten bleek de meerwaarde van locatietheater in gebiedsontwikkelingsprocessen te zitten in de vergroting van de gebiedsbekendheid, het verbreden van de betekenis van gebieden en de verbeelding van de maatschappelijke implicaties van ruimtelijke transities. Nederland heeft als pionier van de landschapschilderkunst een lange traditie in het vastleggen van het landschap op het doek. Het agrarische landschap is daarop altijd een belangrijk onderwerp geweest. Schilderijen zijn daarmee een voorname bron van informatie over hoe het agrarische landschap er in vroegere tijden uitzag en zijn dus van belang voor de cultuurhistorische waarde van het agrarische landschap.
