MyPHRMachines: Lifelong Personal Health Records in the Cloud
Personal Health Records (PHRs) should remain the lifelong property of patients and should be showable conveniently and securely to selected caregivers. Regarding interoperability, current solutions for PHRs focus on standard data exchange formats and transformations to move data across health information systems. In this paper we propose MyPHRMachines, a patient-centric system that takes a radically new architectural solution to health record interoperability. We propose to deploy besides the medical data also the related software to the PHR system. After uploading their medical data to MyPHRMachines, patients can access them again from remote virtual machines that contain the right software to visualize and analyze them without any conversion. Patients can share their remote virtual machine session with a selected health provider, who will need only a Web browser to access the pre-loaded fragments of the lifelong PHR. We illustrate how our prototype already supports the use case of a real-world patient and discuss the research agenda required to translate this prototype into a viable solution for the international healthcare industry
Just Keep Tweeting: Emergency Responder\u27s Social Media Use Before and During Emergencies
This study investigates how emergency response organizations use social media during emergency preparedness and response. Using qualitative (interviews and documents) and quantitative (Facebook posts) data, the study identifies several uses of social media in emergency preparedness and emergency management, as well as the organizational context that affects this use. Findings indicate that social media support various purposes of use, including information dissemination, obtaining input from the public and other organizations, and participation by other emergency response organizations. Branding of the organization during the emergency preparedness phase was found to be an important aspect of information dissemination, and helps social media to be useful tool to connect with the public and other organizations during the emergency response phase. Nevertheless, social media use in the emergency response domain still has to overcome leadership and staff adoption barriers
Beta asymmetry parameter in the decay of 114In
The beta asymmetry parameter A for the pure Gamow-Teller decay of 114In is
reported. The low temperature nuclear orientation method was combined with a
GEANT4 based simulation code allowing for the first time to address in detail
the effects of scattering and of the magnetic field. The result, A = -0.994 +/-
0.010stat +/- 0.010syst, constitutes the most accurate value for the asymmetry
parameter of a nuclear beta transition to date. The value is in agreement with
the Standard Model prediction of A = -1 and provides new limits on tensor type

First detection and energy measurement of recoil ions following beta decay in a Penning trap with the WITCH experiment
The WITCH experiment (Weak Interaction Trap for CHarged particles) will
search for exotic interactions by investigating the beta-neutrino angular
correlation via the measurement of the recoil energy spectrum after beta decay.
As a first step the recoil ions from the beta-minus decay of 124In stored in a
Penning trap have been detected. The evidence for the detection of recoil ions
is shown and the properties of the ion cloud that forms the radioactive source

The half-life of Fr in Si and Au at 4K and at mK temperatures
The half-life of the decaying nucleus Fr was determined in
different environments, i.e. embedded in Si at 4 K, and embedded in Au at 4 K
and about 20 mK. No differences in half-life for these different conditions
were observed within 0.1%. Furthermore, we quote a new value for the absolute
half-life of Fr of t = 286.1(10) s, which is of comparable
precision to the most precise value available in literature
Promoting occupational health through gamification and e-coaching: A 5-month user engagement study
Social gamification systems have shown potential for promoting healthy lifestyles, but applying them to occupational settings faces unique design challenges. While occupational settings offer natural communities for social interaction, fairness issues due to heterogeneous personal goals and privacy concerns increase the difficulty of designing engaging games. We explored a two-level game-design, where the first level related to achieving personal goals and the second level was a privacy-protected social competition to maximize goal compliance among colleagues. The solution was strengthened by employing occupational physicians who personalized usersâ goals and coached them remotely. The design was evaluated in a 5-month study with 53 employees from a Dutch university. Results suggested that the application helped half of the participants to improve their lifestyles, and most appreciated the role of the physician in goal-setting. However, long-term user engagement was undermined by the scalability-motivated design choice of one-way communication between employees and their physician. Implications for social gamification design in occupational health are discussed
