Characterizing Service Level Objectives for Cloud Services: Motivation of Short-Term Cache Allocation Performance Modeling
Service level objectives (SLOs) stipulate performance goals for cloud applications, microservices, and infrastructure. SLOs are widely used, in part, because system managers can tailor goals to their products, companies, and workloads. Systems research intended to support strong SLOs should target realistic performance goals used by system managers in the field. Evaluations conducted with uncommon SLO goals may not translate to real systems. Some textbooks discuss the structure of SLOs but (1) they only sketch SLO goals and (2) they use outdated examples. We mined real SLOs published on the web, extracted their goals and characterized them. Many web documents discuss SLOs loosely but few provide details and reflect real settings. Systematic literature review (SLR) prunes results and reduces bias by (1) modeling expected SLO structure and (2) detecting and removing outliers. We collected 75 SLOs where response time, query percentile and reporting period were specified. We used these SLOs to confirm and refute common perceptions. For example, we found few SLOs with response time guarantees below 10 ms for 90% or more queries. This reality bolsters perceptions that single digit SLOs face fundamental research challenges. This work was funded by NSF Grants 1749501 and 1350941.No embargoAcademic Major: Computer Science and EngineeringAcademic Major: Financ
Prospective Analysis of Aluminum Metal for Energy Applications
With the increasing global demand for sustainable energy, metal aluminum has shown tremendous potential and advantages as an important energy material. This article focuses on exploring the application prospects of metal aluminum in renewable energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency. In the field of renewable energy, metal aluminum can be used in the manufacturing of solar cell components and auxiliary equipment. Its properties make it a suitable material for these applications. In terms of energy storage, metal aluminum exhibits high performance and a long lifespan in hydrogen storage and energy storage devices. It shows promise as an efficient and durable choice for these applications. In the field of energy efficiency, metal aluminum plays a significant role as a lightweight material in the automotive industry and in thermal management technologies. It can contribute to improving energy utilization efficiency and reducing energy consumption in various applications. However, the application of metal aluminum still faces some challenges, including cost and sustainability issues. Therefore, further research, development, and collaboration are needed to promote the application and development of metal aluminum in the energy sector, contributing to the achievement of sustainable energy goals
Increment entropy as a measure of complexity for time series
Entropy has been a common index to quantify the complexity of time series in
a variety of fields. Here, we introduce increment entropy to measure the
complexity of time series in which each increment is mapped into a word of two
letters, one letter corresponding to direction and the other corresponding to
magnitude. The Shannon entropy of the words is termed as increment entropy
(IncrEn). Simulations on synthetic data and tests on epileptic EEG signals have
demonstrated its ability of detecting the abrupt change, regardless of
energetic (e.g. spikes or bursts) or structural changes. The computation of
IncrEn does not make any assumption on time series and it can be applicable to
arbitrary real-world data.Comment: 12pages,7figure,2 table
Moduli Of Certain Wild Covers Of Curves
A fine moduli space (see Chapter~\ref{secn&t} Definition~\ref{finemdli}) is constructed, for cyclic-by- covers of an affine curve over an algebraically closed field of characteristic . An intersection (see Definition~\ref{M}) of finitely many fine moduli spaces for cyclic-by- covers of affine curves gives a moduli space for -by- covers of an affine curve. A local moduli space is also constructed, for cyclic-by- covers of , which is the same as the global moduli space for cyclic-by- covers of tamely ramified over with the same Galois group. Then it is shown that a restriction morphism (see Lemma~\ref{res mor-2}) is finite with degrees on connected components powers: There are finitely many deleted points (see Figure 1) of an affine curve from its smooth completion. A cyclic-by- cover of an affine curve gives a product of local covers with the same Galois group, of the punctured infinitesimal neighbourhoods of the deleted points. So there is a restriction morphism from the global moduli space to a product of local moduli spaces
Sales Model Selection for Second-hand vehicle E-commerce
The online second-hand vehicle sales models now include: auction model, consignment sales model, purchase and sales model, third party evaluation platform model and information consultant platform model. So choose a right sales model is important for sellers. We use AHP method to confirm key factors and built a score model base for different sales models. Though analysis, we can the conclusion that the best order of choice for online second-hand vehicle business model is: auction model, consignment sales model, purchase and sale model, information consultant platform and third party evaluation platform
