Univariate time series regressions of the forex return on the forward premium generate mostly negative slope coefficients. Simple and refined panel estimation techniques yield slope estimates that are much closer to unity. We explain the two apparently opposing results by allowing for both additive and multiplicative news. No arbitrage arguments imply that the multiplicative news component must be identical across all exchange rates at a given point in time. Cross section estimates reveal that the movements in the multiplicative news component are so large that a negative slope coefficient for the post Bretton Woods time series regressions is not inprobable

Selecting informative food items for compiling food-frequency questionnaires: comparison of procedures

The authors automated the selection of foods in a computer system that compiles and processes tailored FFQ. For the selection of food items, several methods are available. The aim of the present study was to compare food lists made by MOM2, which identifies food items with highest between-person variance in intake of the nutrients of interest without taking other items into account, with food lists made by forward regression. The name MOM2 refers to the variance, which is the second moment of the nutrient intake distribution. Food items were selected for the nutrients of interest from 2 d of recorded intake in 3524 adults aged 25–65 years. Food lists by 80 % MOM2 were compared to those by 80 % explained variance for regression on differences between the number and type of food items, and were evaluated on (1) the percentage of explained variance and (2) percentage contribution to population intake computed for the selected items on the food list. MOM2 selected the same food items for Ca, a few more for fat and vitamin C, and a few less for carbohydrates and dietary fibre than forward regression. Food lists by MOM2 based on 80 % of variance in intake covered 75–87 % of explained variance for different nutrients by regression and contributed 53–75 % to total population intake. Optimalistatie van de waterhuishouding voor natuur in het gebied Lochem-Vorden

Waterbedrijf Gelderland wil samen met andere belanghebbenden de waterhuishouding in het gebied Lochem-Vorden optimaliseren. Naast waterhuishoudkundige maatregelen bestaat de mogelijkheid om de drinkwaterwinningen in het gebied aan te passen. Met een hydrologisch model zijn verschillende inrichtingsvarianten doorgerekend. In dit rapport wordt verslag gedaan van de gevolgen van de voorgestelde maatregelen voor de natuur. Er is een methode ontwikkeld om met de uitkomsten van het natuurevaluatiemodel NATLES de realiseerbaarheid van de natuurdoelen die door de provincie Gelderland zijn vastgesteld, als percentage te berekenen. Tevens is een historische situatie gereconstrueerd die als referentie dient voor de hydrologische situatie en voor de realiseerbaarheid van de natuurdoelen

Grondwaterkarakteristieken van bodemeenheden; het oorspronkelijk grondwaterregime ontleend aan bodemkenmerken

Door het CML en TNO-IGG is een methode ontwikkeld om de natuurlijke grondwatersituatie te bepalen aan de hand van bodemkenmerken van bodemeenheden die op de Bodemkaart van Nederland 1 : 50 000 voorkomen. De methode is toegepast in Noord-Brabant en later door het Staring Centrum voor Gelderland en omgeving. De totale Bodemkaart van Nederland omvatte desondanks nog een groot aantal bodemeenheden die nog niet waren toegedeeld. In dit rapport wordt de voltooing voor alle Nederlandse bodemeenheden toegelicht, evenals de beperkingen en toepassingsmogelijkheden
