Vortex configurations and metastability in mesoscopic superconductors

The vortex dynamics in mesoscopic superconducting cylinders with rectangular cross section under an axially applied magnetic field is investigated in the multivortex London regime. The rectangles considered range from a square up to an infinite slab. The flux distribution and total flux carried by a vortex placed in an arbitrary position of the sample is calculated analytically by assuming Clem's solution for the vortex core. The Bean-Livingston energy barrier is also analytically calculated in this framework. A Langevin algorithm simulates the flux penetration and dynamical evolution of the vortices as the external field is slowly cycled. The simulated magnetization process is governed by metastable states. The magnetization curves are hysteretic, with paramagnetic response in part of the downward branch, and present a series of peaks corresponding to the entry or expulsion of a single vortex. For elongated rectangles, the vortices arrange themselves into parallel vortex chains and an additional modulation of the magnetization, corresponding to creation or destruction of a vortex chain, comes out.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. Literatura marginal e a compreensão das dinâmicas sociais das periferias brasileiras

O presente artigo discute, a partir das noçoesde literatura e sociedade desenvolvidas por Antonio Candido e de campo social de Pierre Bourdieu, a produçao ficcional e a trajetória social e intelectual de determinados escritores no campo literário brasileiro. A manifestaçao cultural desses autores, caracterizada de periféricae denominada "literatura marginal", ganhou a cena pública brasileira no final da década de 1990 com a publicaçao dos romances Cidade de Deus, do carioca Paulo Lins e Capao Pecado, do paulistano Ferréz.O romance de Paulo Lins tornou-se mundialmente conhecido depois que o cineasta Fernando Meirelles filmou "Cidade de Deus" conquistando, inclusive, indicaçoes para a disputa do Oscar. Ferréz publicou outros livros e organizou a revista "Literatura Marginal", coletânea com diferentes moradores de bairros periféricos da cidade de Sao Paulo.A partir da análise das obras desses dois autores sugerimos que os morros, favelas e periferias têm suas próprias características e a literatura marginal pode indicar mais uma oportunidade para desvendar esse mundo que espacialmente está tao próximo, mas socialmente muito distant

O Inquérito Policial Militar e a Polícia Judiciária Militar sob uma perspectiva constitucional

Direito.O presente trabalho destina-se a apresentar os principais aspectos do Inquérito Policial Militar e da atuação da Polícia Judiciária Militar, a partir de uma nova perspectiva constitucional, rumo a consolidação dos direitos fundamentais e garantias constitucionais na Administração Militar. O militar enquanto sujeito de direitos precisa ser visto de outro modo, sob um viés humanizado e constitucional, para que se permita que este servidor especial possa receber a valorização que lhe é necessária. Da herança autoritária que ainda se manifesta nas normas jurídicas militares à transição democrática com vistas a efetivação de direitos fundamentais, constata-se uma necessidade de melhor dirigir os trabalhos de investigação no âmbito militar, trazendo o Inquérito Policial Militar para o centro do nosso trabalho. Não há como falar de inquérito sem mencionar o poder de Polícia Judiciária Militar e realizar detalhada análise de sua atuação, sob um prisma garantista e constitucional, na busca de uma melhor forma laboral deste braço militar estatal, que é um membro integrado ao corpo estatal e não uma parte isolada e autônoma

Asymmetrical bloch branes and the hierarchy problem

We investigate a two scalar fields split braneworld model which leads to a possible approach to the hierarchy problem within the thick brane scenario. The model exhibits a resulting asymmetric warp factor suitable for this purpose. The solution is obtained by means of the orbit equation approach for a specific value of one of the parameters. Besides, we analyze the model qualitative behaviour for arbitrary parameters by inspecting the underlying dynamical system defined by the equations which give rise to the braneworld model. We finalize commenting on the metric fluctuation and stability issues.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

Trajectory of Water- and Fat-Soluble Dyes in the Grass-Cutting ant Atta capiguara (Hymenoptera, Formicidae): Evaluation of Infrabuccal Cavity, Post-Pharyngeal Glands and Gaster

The diet of leaf-cutting ants is based on cultivation of their symbiotic fungus, whose successful cultivation depends on the task of incorporation and handling of vegetable substrate. This task may cause the workers to be contaminated with toxic substances and thus decrease the survival of the colony. The objective of this study was to analyze the contamination of workers of Atta capiguara as well as the dissemination trajectory of water- and fat-soluble substances. Four colonies received non-toxic baits containing water-soluble dye Rhodamine-B and three, non-toxic baits with fat-soluble dye Sudan III. The dye Rhodamine-B stained the gaster in 40.31% of workers and showed no significant difference among castes. The Sudan III stained the infrabuccal cavity in 35.41%, post-pharyngeal glands of 24.22% and gaster in only 8.44% of the workers, with no significant difference among the castes. The watersoluble dye was spread in the body of workers through the digestive system while fat-soluble dye was diverted to the post-pharyngeal glands.

A Lei de Responsabilidade Fiscal trouxe novidades, tais como limites de despesa com pessoal por poderes, novas penalidades em caso de não cumprimento dos limites e a Receita Corrente Liquida. Desse modo, o trabalho inicialmente apresenta o tema e problema, seguido pelos objetivos, metodologia e organização do estudo. Na seqüência, apresenta a revisão bibliográfica, que da suporte ao entendimento e desenvolvimento teórico desse trabalho. Depois vem o desenvolvimento teórico desse trabalho. Após isto, vem a conclusão e as referencias bibliográficas
