How to perform a simultaneous optimization with several response variables

    Get PDF
A problem facing the product development community is developing simultaneous solutions of response variables (to several properties) that depends on a number of independent variables or sets of responses. Harrington, among others, addressed this problem and presented a desirability function with a functional approach. Derringer and Suich altered their approach and illustrated how multiple variables can be transformed into a convenience function. This work redid the calculation performed by them using another software and made a comparative discussion of the results found

Scientific research trends about metaheuristics in process optimization and case study using the desirability function

    Get PDF
This study aimed to identify the research gaps in Metaheuristics, taking into account the publications entered in a database in 2015 and to present a case study of a company in the Sul Fluminense region using the Desirability function. To achieve this goal, applied research of exploratory nature and qualitative approach was carried out, as well as another of quantitative nature. As method and technical procedures were the bibliographical research, some literature review, and an adopted case study respectively. As a contribution of this research, the holistic view of opportunities to carry out new investigations on the theme in question is pointed out. It is noteworthy that the identified study gaps after the research were prioritized and discriminated, highlighting the importance of the viability of metaheuristic algorithms, as well as their benefits for process optimization

Mapping Sustainability 4.0: contributions and limits of the symbiosis

    Get PDF
The history of industry is marked by four industrial revolutions, and society is now in the consolidation of its fourth, which provides opportunities for sustainability, such as reduction in environmental impact and social inclusion. This article aims to identify the main authors, countries, articles, and research gaps on the theme "Industry 4.0 and Corporate Sustainability"; and to draw up a mind map with the research trends, through the analysis of the documents that are indexed in the Scopus database. Among the main trends that were identified in this article are: Industry 4.0 as a tool to support sustainability; Intersection and boundaries between sustainability and industry 4.0; Development of industry 4.0 along the lines of sustainability; Management applied in sustainable industry 4.0. The main contribution applied was the exposure of the possibilities that companies can implement, both in relation to sustainability in the development of innovative technologies, and the use of technologies to strengthen the pillars of sustainability

Multiple Response Optimization: Comparative Analysis Between Models Obtained by Ordinary Least Method and Genetic Programming

    Get PDF
Purpose: This work aims to analyze and compare the performance between the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method executed in Minitab (v. 17) and the genetic programming performed in Eureqa Formulize (v. 1.24.0).   Theoretical reference: Obtaining a model that mathematically describes the relationship between the independent variable and the response variable is essential to optimizing the process. The model can be described as an approximate representation of the real system or process, while the modeling process is a balance between simplicity and accuracy (X. Chen et al., 2018; Gomes et al., 2019; Sampaio et al., 2022; A. R. S. Silva et al., 2021).   Method: An Evaluation of the best method for constructing mathematical models was performed using the Adjusted Coefficient of Determination (Radj2) and Akaike's Information Criterion   Results and conclusion: The comparison between the use of the methods showed the superiority of genetic programming over OLS in the construction of mathematical models.   Originality/Value: Genetic Programming produces mathematical models that are sometimes differentiated when several replicates are performed, but always with similar explanatory power and with biased characteristic that does not affect in any way the quality of prediction of the dependent variable being studied

Development of automotive packaging by applying the QFD method

    No full text
The main operational functions of packaging are: containment, protection/conservation, promotion of the product and/or linking a message, i.e. packaging is almost a part of product marketing. In the automotive industry, the packaging developed serves as a means of packaging and transport ensuring the integrity of the product within the supply chain, at the best cost and within the established deadlines. This paper discusses how Quality Function Deployment (QFD) proves to be an effective methodology for ensuring success in automotive packaging development. The study is delimited to the development of packaging at a vehicle manufacturer in the southern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is expected that the House of Quality, the first stage of the QFD method, presented in this article and used by the packaging development sector, can attract more teams and organizations to adopt QFD in the development of packaging, identifying, and meeting the needs of the company's internal customers and guiding external suppliers in the development of this packaging, aiming for better quality and lower cost packaging

New indicators for commercial technical support development

    No full text
Quality management has been developing and its application is feasible not only in control rooms and production-related departments. New techniques and control tools have been developed to seek a better level of customer and stakeholder satisfaction. The work in question is a case study of the application of quality control tools, more specifically of two performance indicators, to measure the efficiency of the technical support service to the commercial team provided by a large company in the food industry. The analysis of the data obtained showed that the indicators evaluated were effective in this task and allowed us to see opportunities for improvement in the performance of the service provided.  From the results obtained and their analysis it was possible to verify that the proposed indicators are perfectly applicable, providing clear and objective answers, which allows for more precise decision making and focused on the company's objective

The titans sustainability and industry 4.0 working for the planet earth

The history of industry is marked by revolutions, the Fourth Industrial Revolution provides opportunities for sustainability, and means to reduce environmental degradation and social inclusion. This article aims to identify which factors impact the sustainability of an organization. The exploratory research was carried out by means of literature review and bibliographic research to achieve the objective of conducting a bibliometric study, identifying the evolution of publications, and the authors that make up this field of knowledge. It is necessary for companies and industries to be introduced to the global changes that Industry 4.0 has introduced in the manufacturing environment, making it possible to develop sustainable processes and products

Pollution Credit Certificates Theory: An Analysis on the Quality of Solid Waste Management in Brazil

    No full text
Purpose: This paper aims to introduce an economic instrument called Theory of Pollution Credit Certificates in the management of municipal solid waste in Brazil, in order to create opportunities to achieve the goal established in the above mentioned policy at lowest possible social costs.        Methodology/Approach: The methodology adopted has as a starting point the “constructo” of a scenario in which a city comprised of five brazilian districts produces its urban solid waste made up of 50% organic material. In the proposed scenario, similar to what happens in practice, a fee for collection and treatment of organic material would be charged for two different situations. Findings: The result showed that the use of Pollution Credit Certificates Theory has a better cost-effectiveness for solid waste management because it allows reaching the environmental goal at a lower cost to society. Research Limitation/Implication: Subjectivity of the analysis, due to the “constructo” proposition in the studies. Originality/Value of paper: From the results obtained, we inferred that the use of the Pollution Certificates Theory for the management of brazilian municipal solid waste benefits from economies of scale as it allows in the scenario determined, that districts sell their spaces at the landfill and parallel to this, to promote the practice of composting organic waste in the municipality
