Weak measurement og the composite Goo-Haenchen shift in the critical region

By using a weak measurement technique, we investigated the interplay between the angular and lateral Goos-Haenchen shift of a focused He-Ne laser beam for incidence near the critical angle. We verified that this interplay dramatically affects the composite Goos-Haenchen shift of the propagated beam. The experimental results confirm theoretical predictions that recently appeared in the literature.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

Observational Constraints on Visser's Cosmological Model

Theories of gravity for which gravitons can be treated as massive particles have presently been studied as realistic modifications of General Relativity, and can be tested with cosmological observations. In this work, we study the ability of a recently proposed theory with massive gravitons, the so-called Visser theory, to explain the measurements of luminosity distance from the Union2 compilation, the most recent Type-Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) dataset, adopting the current ratio of the total density of non-relativistic matter to the critical density ($\Omega_m$) as a free parameter. We also combine the SNe Ia data with constraints from Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and CMB measurements. We find that, for the allowed interval of values for $\Omega_m$, a model based on Visser's theory can produce an accelerated expansion period without any dark energy component, but the combined analysis (SNe Ia + BAO + CMB) shows that the model is disfavored when compared with $\Lambda$CDM model.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

O mercado de caprinos e ovinos no sertão baiano: a visão do produtor.

Para compreender o funcionamento e caracterizar a comercialização de carnes e peles de caprinos e ovinos nos mercados tradicionais do Sertão Baiano do São Francisco, foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com produtores, e intermediários de animais vivos e peles nos principais centros de comercialização de produtos caprinos e ovinos dessa região. A maior parte das vendas foi realizada na propriedade e/ou nas feiras de animais vivos e, em sua maioria, sem pesagem dos animais ou carcaças. As famílias menos capitalizadas receberam, em média, menores preços pelos animais caprinos e ovinos comercializados, em relação as dos demais tipos. Portanto, foram as que enfrentaram maiores dificuldades para competir no mercado

Live weight, carcass, and meat evaluation of Nellore, Curraleiro Pé-Duro, and their crossbred products in Piauí State.

The objective of this study was to evaluate live weight and carcass traits, from birth to slaughter, and meat quality of Nellore (NEL), Curraleiro Pé-Duro (CPD), and crossbred (F1) products in the state of Piauí, Brazil. Progenies from CPD, NEL, and their F1 crossbred (½ NEL + ½ CPD), a total of 252, males and females, from birth to 24 months of age, were evaluated in a comparative study in growth performance. The steers were sent to slaughter at 28 months of age and carcasses and meat quality were analyzed. After slaughter, carcass weight, dressing percentage and Longissimus dorsi area (rib eye area) were evaluated; an index was created by the relationship between these measures per hundred kg of chilled carcass produced. To assess meat quality, the shear force, water-holding capacity, color, brightness, pH, and cooking loss were investigated. Results obtained showed that month and year of birth were significant on growth, indicating influence of climatic variables. Nellore offspring was heavier than F1 and this was heavier than CPD throughout the study period, including the hot and cold carcass. No differences were found in dressing percentage among NEL and F1, but CPD and F1 showed a rib eye area and index significantly higher than NEL. The meat from CPD group presented a stronger red coloration than the others, but there was no significant difference in the remaining meat qualitative variables among the three groups. Curraleiro Pé-Duro and F1 crossbred produce more meat per 100 kg of carcass than Nellore in natural pasture of Piauí State

Caracterização morfométrica de caprinos Marota do núcleo de conservação In situ.

O objetivo neste trabalho foi realizar a caracterização morfométrica através das relações entre as medidas fenotípicas nos caprinos Marota. Foram utilizados 110 caprinos adultos da raça Marota nos quais foram mensuradas: Altura de Cernelha (AC), Altura da Garupa, (AG), Comprimento Corporal (CC), Comprimento do Ísquio (ISQ) e Perímetro Torácico (PT). A partir destas medidas foram calculados os Índice corporal (IC), Índice Corporal Relativo (ICR), Índice de Relação Perímetro Torácico (IRPT) e o Índice de compacidade. Os machos foram maiores que fêmeas apresentando dimorfismo sexual quanto ao tamanho. As correlações entre as medidas morfométricas foram elevadas. O índice corporal (IC), indicam que os animais avaliados são de tamanho médio. Os índices relativos entre perímetro torácico e altura de cernelha (IRPT/AC), são indicativos do bom desenvolvimento torácico, o que pode significar boa capacidade respiratória e propicia dissipação de calor. A raça Marota apresenta porte pequeno com base nas características fenotípicas avaliadas e maior proporção de tecidos aos seis anos de idade
