The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect two hybrids of maize, cultivated on "safrinha" conditions, in different rates of 08-28-16 formula. The treatments consisted of two hybrids of maize (DKB747 e CO32) cultivated in no-tillage system (SPD) and five rates of fertilizer 08-28-16 (100, 200, 300, 400 e 500 kg ha(-1)). The randomized block design was used, with subdivided splots and four replications. The maize was sowed on 02/03/2006 using seeder pneumatic of mechanics traction, with four individual lines, spaced of 0.45 m During maize flowering period, morphologic components were evaluated; the harvest occurred on 150 days after the sowing, when the production components were evaluated. The hybrid of maize DKB747 showed greater efficiency, while the hybrid of maize CO32 was more responsive to rates used. NPK rates on 08-28-16 fomula above 300 kg ha(-1) are not necessary to the hybrid CO32 cultivated on "safrinha" conditions, in Botucatu region, state of São Paulo.O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta de duas cultivares de milho, cultivado na safrinha, à diferentes doses da fórmula 08-28-16. Foram utilizados dois híbridos de milho (DKB747 e CO32) semeados em Sistema Plantio Direto (SPD) e submetidos a cinco doses da fórmula 08-28-16 (100, 200, 300, 400 e 500 kg ha-1). O delineamento foi o de blocos casualizados, em parcela subdividida, com quatro repetições. O milho foi semeado no dia 02/03/2006 utilizando-se uma semeadora pneumática de tração tratorizada, com quatro linhas individuais espaçadas de 0,45 m. No estádio de florescimento, foram avaliados os componentes morfológicos; a colheita foi efetuada aos 150 dias após a semeadura, ocasião em que foram avaliados os componentes da produção e produtividade. O híbrido DKB747 apresentou maior eficiência, enquanto o híbrido CO32 mostrou-se mais responsivo às doses utilizadas. A utilização de doses acima de 300 kg ha-1 de NPK na formula 08-28-16 não se faz necessário para o híbrido CO32 cultivado na safrinha, na região de Botucatu, SP

Consorciação e plantas daninhas afetando a produtividade e a qualidade de sementes de sorgo

This research aimed to study competition effects of legumes intercropping and weeds on seeds yield and quality of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. The experiment was carried out in a Rhodic Nitisol, under field condition in Botucatu region, São Paulo State, Brazil. Ten treatments were tested: sorghum (cv. A-6304) intercropped with Dolichos lablab L., Mucuna aterrima (Piper et Tracy) Holland, Canavalia ensiformis D. C. or Crotalaria juncea L., that were sown in the same time of sorghum or 20 days after the sorghum sowing, and sorghum weed-free and sorghum without weeding. The experimental design employed was the completely randomized blocks with four replications. There were evaluated sorghum seeds yield and some characteristcs of seed quality: purity, hectolitric weight, 1000 seeds weight, insect infestation, germination and vigor (by first counting of germination test and accelerated ageing test). The competition caused by legumes intercropping and weeds affected the yield and the physical and physiological characteristics of sorghum seeds, but the intensity of prejudicial effects depended on the time and the species of legume intercropping.O trabalho teve por objetivo estudar os efeitos da competição, ocasionada por leguminosas em consórcio, estabelecido em duas épocas, e pelas plantas daninhas, sobre a produtividade e qualidade de sementes de sorgo. O experimento foi conduzido em Nitossolo Vermelho, em condições de campo, em Botucatu – SP. Constou de dez tratamentos, constituídos pela consorciação de sorgo granífero (cv. A-6304) com labe-labe, mucuna-preta, feijão-de-porco ou crotalária, semeados simultaneamente ou 20 dias após o sorgo, e os tratamentos sorgo no limpo e sorgo no mato (com plantas daninhas), em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. No sorgo foram avaliadas a produtividade e características de qualidade das sementes: pureza física, peso hectolítrico, massa de 1000 sementes, sementes infestadas, germinação e vigor (pela primeira contagem do teste de germinação e pelo teste de envelhecimento acelerado). A competição das leguminosas em consórcio e das plantas daninhas afetou a produtividade e as características físicas e fisiológicas das sementes de sorgo, com a intensidade do efeito prejudicial variando em função do momento de implantação da consorciação e da espécie consorciada

CRESCIMENTO E PRODUÇÃO DO COQUEIRO ANÃO VERDE FERTIRRIGADO COM NITROGÊNIO E POTÁSSIO

A field experiment was developed in the period of April of 2000 to May of 2002, at the Experimental Station of Jiqui pertaining to the Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária do Rio Grande do Norte - EMPARN, Parnamirim city, state of Rio Grande do Norte. The work had as objective to evaluate the effects of nitrogen and potassium applied through irrigation water on the vegetative behavior and productive of green dwarf coconut tree (Cocos nucifera L). The treatments had consisted of the combination through the experimental matrix of Pan Puebla III, 5 doses of N and 5 doses of K2O both oscillating of 135 the 2565g plant -1 year -1 derived of the urea and potassium chloride. The used experimental design was of blocks at random with 4 repetitions and 5 plants for plots totalizing 40 experimental units. The plantation was made in the triangular spacing of 7.5 m between plants and 7.5 m between lines. During the 5th year of culture, from April of 2001 to May of 2002 was quantified the number of fruits in the 13 harvest carried out. The referring variables to the vegetative development, height and circumference of stem, diameter of the top and leaf number, had been measured in May of 2002, in the end of the experiment. The stem circumference increased linearly with the increase of the doses of N and of quadratic form with the doses of K with the biggest value for the dose of 1350 g plants -1 year-1. The leaf number answered only the nitrogen applications. The growth in stem height had influence of N and K, however, data did not adjust to no mathematical model. The diameter of the top of the green dwarfed coconut palm did not suffer significant interference of no applied fertilizer through irrigation water. The number of fruits increased quadratically with the N and K doses. The maximum physical efficiency of the production, 154.75 fruits plants -1 year -1, it was reached with the doses of 1437 g plants -1 year -1 of N and 1553 g plants -1 year -1 of K

Desempenho de três variedades de soja na região dos tabuleiros costeiros no estado Alagoas

The objective of this work, the performance of three varieties of soybean on "Tabuleiros Costeiros" State of Alagoas. The installation of the experiment occurred on March 20, 2006, picking up the parcels on 26 August 2006. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with seven repetitions. The experimental plots consisted of ten rows of 4.0 m in length, spaced 0.50 m. In ten plants per plot were marked certain height of the plant in full bloom stage R2 and point of harvest stage R9 considering the distance between the soil surface and apical end of the main stem, the body weight of 100 seeds, grain production and dry weight in (kg ha(-1)) which are calculated from the production harvested per plot. The soybean plants of three varieties showed height below the minimum required for mechanical harvesting. The three varieties yield or more of the traditionally producing. The average of dry matter accumulation obtained show the variety BRS Tracaja as a good option for the production of forage.Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar o desempenho de três variedades de soja na região dos Tabuleiros Costeiros no Estado de Alagoas. A instalação do experimento ocorreu em 20 de março de 2006, colhendo-se as parcelas em 26 de agosto de 2006. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso com sete repetições. As parcelas experimentais foram constituídas por dez fileiras de 4,0 m de comprimento, espaçadas de 0,50m. Em dez plantas marcadas por parcela foram determinados: altura da planta na floração plena estádio R2 e ponto de colheita estádio R9 considerando a distancia compreendida entre a superficie do solo e a extremidade apical da haste principal, peso da massa de 100 sementes, produção de grãos e matéria seca em (kg ha-1) sendo estas calculadas a partir da produção colhida por parcela. As plantas de soja das três variedades estudadas apresentaram alturas médias abaixo da mínima exigida para colheita mecânica. As três variedades apresentaram produtividades iguais ou superiores as das regiões tradicionalmente produtoras. As médias de acúmulo de matéria seca obtidas mostram a variedade BRS Tracajá como uma boa opção para a produção de forragem

Evaluation of a quality improvement intervention to reduce anastomotic leak following right colectomy (EAGLE): pragmatic, batched stepped-wedge, cluster-randomized trial in 64 countries

Background Anastomotic leak affects 8 per cent of patients after right colectomy with a 10-fold increased risk of postoperative death. The EAGLE study aimed to develop and test whether an international, standardized quality improvement intervention could reduce anastomotic leaks. Methods The internationally intended protocol, iteratively co-developed by a multistage Delphi process, comprised an online educational module introducing risk stratification, an intraoperative checklist, and harmonized surgical techniques. Clusters (hospital teams) were randomized to one of three arms with varied sequences of intervention/data collection by a derived stepped-wedge batch design (at least 18 hospital teams per batch). Patients were blinded to the study allocation. Low- and middle-income country enrolment was encouraged. The primary outcome (assessed by intention to treat) was anastomotic leak rate, and subgroup analyses by module completion (at least 80 per cent of surgeons, high engagement; less than 50 per cent, low engagement) were preplanned. Results A total 355 hospital teams registered, with 332 from 64 countries (39.2 per cent low and middle income) included in the final analysis. The online modules were completed by half of the surgeons (2143 of 4411). The primary analysis included 3039 of the 3268 patients recruited (206 patients had no anastomosis and 23 were lost to follow-up), with anastomotic leaks arising before and after the intervention in 10.1 and 9.6 per cent respectively (adjusted OR 0.87, 95 per cent c.i. 0.59 to 1.30; P = 0.498). The proportion of surgeons completing the educational modules was an influence: the leak rate decreased from 12.2 per cent (61 of 500) before intervention to 5.1 per cent (24 of 473) after intervention in high-engagement centres (adjusted OR 0.36, 0.20 to 0.64; P < 0.001), but this was not observed in low-engagement hospitals (8.3 per cent (59 of 714) and 13.8 per cent (61 of 443) respectively; adjusted OR 2.09, 1.31 to 3.31). Conclusion Completion of globally available digital training by engaged teams can alter anastomotic leak rates. Registration number: NCT04270721 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov)
