New way of estimating of real estate market value, based on the least squares method, was presented in the article. Testing of applying same ideas of statistical approach into the routine way of appraisal of particular immovable estate shown that the proposed way of valuation is under some circumstances as good as the “in-pairs comparing” method, the most universal one from among methods of comparing approach. Although “in-pairs comparing” method is regarded as the most accurate one, conducted experiments clearly shown its own, inherent limits, that radically restrict the field of its use. New way of estimating of real estate market value, based on the least squares method, was presented in the article. Cardiovascular Disease and Chronic Inflammation in End Stage Kidney Disease

    Get PDF
Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the most severe diseases worldwide. In patients affected by CKD, a progressive destruction of the nephrons is observed not only in structuralbut also in functional level. Atherosclerosis is a progressive disease of large and medium-sized arteries. It is characterized by the deposition of lipids and fibrous elements and is a common complication of the uremic syndrome because of the coexistence of a wide range of risk factors. High blood pressure, anaemia, insulin resistance, inflammation, high oxidative stress are some of the most common factors that cause cardiovascular disease and atherogenesis in patients suffering from End Stage Kidney Disease (ESRD). At the same time, the inflammatory process constitutes a common element in the apparition and development of CKD. A wide range of possible causes can justify the development of inflammation under uremic conditions. Such causes are oxidative stress, oxidation, coexistentpathological conditions as well as factors that are due to renal clearance techniques. Patients in ESRD and coronary disease usually show increased acute phase products. Pre-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6 and TNF-a, and acute phase reactants, such as CRP and fibrinogen, are closely related. The treatment of chronic inflammation in CKD is of high importance for the development ofthe disease as well as for the treatment of cardiovascular morbidity. Conclusions: The treatment factors focus on the use of renin-angiotensic system inhibitors, acetylsalicylic acid, statins and anti-oxidant treatment in order to prevent the action of inflammatorycytokines that have the ability to activate the mechanisms of inflammation

Conceptual metaphors in lyrics, vocal realization and music – reinforcement or modification of emotional potential

    Get PDF
The paper seeks to examine the ways in which the emotional potential (germ. Emotionspotential) rooted in the textual part of selected songs can potentially be reinforced or modified by the music and vocal realization. Music and intonation provide sonic counterparts of the emotional states expressed by language. I shall consider cases where the sonic counterpart is either an analog or stands in contrast to the textual component and the affective value commonly associated with the invoked conceptual metaphor/metonymy. The research material consists of three versions of the song Ride by 21 Pilots, the song Here Comes the Night Time by Arcade Fire and Die Flut [the flood] by Joachim Witt and Peter Heppner. The analysis results show that salient presence of up/down image schema in verbal and musical orientational metaphors is observable, albeit not always accompanied with the most typical valence [email protected] Zyga, PhD, is an adjunct professor at the University of Szczecin (Institute of Linguistics). Measuring pain self-efficacy and health related quality of life among hemodialysis patients in Greece: a cross-sectional study

    Get PDF
Patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease often complain about pain. It is also known that the presence of chronic pain greatly impacts upon patients’ quality of life (QOL) and can play a crucial role in the co-morbidity of mental health symptoms such as depression and anxiety. The main aim of this study protocol is the investigation of pain self-efficacy, QOL as well as their relation in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The final sample size will be around 70-80 patients. Each subject’s QOL and pain self-efficacy will be measured using the following instruments: i) the Missoula-ITAS Quality of Life Index-15 and ii) the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire. QOL is expected to be related to pain self-efficacy scores. This probable association will be indicated performing regression as well as correlation analysis after controlling for gender, age, education and marital status

An attempt to apply a measuring dynamic network model into land subsidence process evaluation is described in the presented essay. The surface subsidence process, occurring on rural areas around KWK Bogdanka, is suspected to be consequent upon orogen drainage, related to drilling of mining shafts. The elaboration of archival measuring data with the use of a dynamic model of measuring network enabled to extend the interpretation extension of the interpretation of the observed settlements process for potential drainage process parameters, affecting a specific rock deformation process.W artykule opisano próbę zastosowania dynamicznego modelu geodezyjnej sieci pomiarowo-kontrolnej do oceny procesu osiadania powierzchni terenów wiejskich wokół KWK Bogdanka, wywołanego odwodnieniem górotworu podczas drążenia szybów wydobywczych tej kopalni. Opracowanie archiwalnych materiałów pomiarowych z wykorzystaniem dynamicznego modelu sieci pomiarowej umożliwiło rozszerzenie interpretacji zaobserwowanego procesu osiadań na potencjalne parametry procesu odwodnienia, wpływające na konkretny przebieg procesu deformacji górotworu

Measuring health: related quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Psychometric properties of the Missoula-VITAS Quality of Life Index (MVQOLI-15) in Greece

    Get PDF
Different measuring tools have been used to understand the outcomes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) therapies. However, survival, cost-effectiveness and quality of life (QOL) are the main parameters to evaluate treatment of ESRD. The current study meant to assess the psychometric properties (reliability and validity) of the Missoula-VITAS Quality of Life Index (MVQOLI-15) translation to Greek in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). A total sample of 79 HD patients voluntarily participated in this pilot study. Domain analysis of MVQOLI-15-Greek was conducted based on the collected data at initial assessment. The reliability properties of the instrument were tested using the following measures; internal consistency, repeatability, test-retest reliability and convergent validity. Domain analysis demonstrated that all domains of the questionnaire had good variability. MVQOLI-15-Greek internal consistency was satisfactory with an overall Cronbach’s a at 0.74. Pearson’s r and intraclass correlation coefficient revealed strong correlations (ranging from 0.91 to 0.98) between initial assessment and reassessment. MVQOLI-15-Greek convergent validity analysis indicated that the domains were strongly related to the same construct. The findings of the study indicate that the Greek version of MVQOLI-15 provided satisfactory psychometric properties supporting its use within pathological populations and in the context of national QOL measurement

Predictors of anxiety and depressive symptoms among Greek nurses

Introduction: The increasing needs of an aging population and the shortage of nursing personnel have a negative impact on the workload of nurses increasing the risk of developing anxiety and depressive symptoms. This research aims to evaluate the strength of occupational and demographic characteristics in predicting anxiety and depression among nurses. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a sample of 164 Greek nurses from three hospitals employed full-time participated. Anxiety and depression were measured using the validated Greek versions of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory – State and Trait Y forms and the Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale, respectively. The statistical analysis of the data was performed using the statistical program SPSS version 19.0. The statistical significance level was set up at 0.05. Results: Younger nurses, unmarried, those without children, those with less work experience, and working in the general medical units were more vulnerable. The average number of patients per nurse during the day shift may not predict anxiety or depression scores. Strong positive correlation between state and trait anxiety (r [162] = 0.77, p < 0.001), state anxiety and depression (r [162] = 0.62, p < 0.001), and trait anxiety and depression (r [162] = 0.63, p < 0.001) was revealed. Conclusion: Anxiety and depression are prevalent among nurses. Demographic and working characteristics are strong predictors of anxiety and depression among nurses. Nursing managers should emphasize emotional interventions (cognitive behavioral therapy, training on emotional intelligence, strengthening coping skills, and development of high resilience) in supporting nurses at higher risk
