Pengelolaan Benda Sitaan Negara Hasil Tindak Pidana Korupsi di Kejaksaan Negeri Semarang
Pengelolaan barang-barang sitaan korupsi merupakan salah satu acara melindungi barang barang yang akan dipergunakan untuk pembuktian. Tugas, wewenang dan pelaksanaan dari pengelolaan tersebut harusya memang didasari oleh peraturan perundang-undangan yang memang khusus diperuntukkan untuk itu. Barang-barang sitaan didapat dari hasil upayan paksa yaitu penyitaan agar barang bukti terlindung dari perbutan yang tidak diinginkan. Tentunya ada beberapa faktor penghambat untuk pelaksanaannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana barang-barang sitaan tersebut dikelola dan hambatan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan tersebut di Kejaksaan Negeri khususnya di Kejaksaan Negeri Semarang. Metode yang digunakan yaitu yuridis sosiologis dengan spesifikasi deskriptif analitis, dengan menguraikan secara analitis terhadap permasalahan yang dihadapi, dengan hasil wawancara dari pihak-pihak yang bersangkutan maupun dengan peraturan-peraturan yang ada. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan barang sitaan negara hasil tindak pidana korupsi di Kejaksaan Negeri Semarang dikelola oleh pihak Kejaksaan Negeri Semarang sesuai dengan apa yang tertera didalam Undang-undang. Proses pengelolaan ini juga bekerja sama dengan pihak-pihak yang bersangkutan sesuai dengan apa yang ditetapkan oleh Undang-undang dan didasarkan pada putusan pengadilan. Terdapat beberapa hambatan yaitumengenai sifat barang yang cepat musnah, fasilitas yang masih kurang, dan terkadang lamanya pemrosesan surat untuk barang-barang yang harus dilelang
Zumba in the Postindustrial Midwest: Minority Women and Access to Physical Fitness
Historically, minority women have had limited access to health care resources. Healthy People 2020 identified the promotion of activity and wellness as a key for eliminating heath disparities in ethnic minorities, as minority women are not significant consumers of exercise programming. This study explored participation of a sample of underserved African American women in an individualized Zumba exercise program. The underserved sample was taken from a postindustrial Midwestern city. Participants (n = 35, Mage = 45.75) completed a 4-month aerobic intervention program offered through an accessible gym. At program completion, they responded to a semistructured survey that gauged reasons for participation, perceived enjoyment, and effectiveness. In addition, the survey prompted recommendations and suggestions for future programming. Low cost and entertainment aspects were the most commonly cited reasons for participation. Most participants found the program enjoyable and effective and expressed interest for participating in similar events in the future
Blue Laser Light Counteracts HSV-1 in the SH-SY5Y Neuronal Cell Model of Infection
Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) is wide-spread virus that triggers painful and recurrent infections, as herpes labialis, causing blister lesions on the lip. HSV-1 infection can be a lifelong condition starting from childhood due to the latency of the virus hidden in the trigeminal ganglia. Despite the use of antiviral treatments, there is not a resolutive cure for herpes. In our study, we tested blue light against HSV-1 in a neuronal cellular model, aimed at mimicking the neuronal tropism of HSV-1. Two laser protocols employing continuous wave and pulse modalities were delivered to infected cell cultures and to the virus alone. A significant reduction of viral replication was observed when the beam was directly applied to the virus, along with an increase in cell survival. Our findings, considering the limitation of the still-unknown mechanisms by which the blue light acts on the virus, suggested a potential use of photobiomodulation therapy for clinical applications against herpes labialis in pediatric patients
Copy number variation, gene expression and histological localization of human beta-defensin 2 in patients with adeno-tonsillar hypertrophy
Both bacterial infections and innate oral immunity response participate in development of adeno-tonsillar hypertrophy (ATH). ATH can lead to obstructive sleep apnea. We investigated the beta-defensin 2 (hBD-2) encoding gene, DEFB4, by analyzing the copy number variations (CNVs) of the defensin gene cluster in patients with ATH and by correlating CNV with DEFB4 gene expression. We enrolled 79 patients with ATH, 21 of whom presented with only adenoid hypertrophy, while 58 exhibited hypertrophy of both adenoid and tonsil. CNVs of the defensin gene cluster, DEFB4 mRNA, and hBD-2 protein expression were assessed. Also, beta-defensin 2 was localized histologically using immunohistochemistry. The distribution of defensin gene cluster CNV was similar among the 79 subjects. DEFB4 expression analysis exhibited considerable inter-individual variability, but with neither specific differences among subjects nor correlation with the CNV number. Immunohistochemistry enabled localization of hBD-2 in the tonsil and adenoid epithelium. No differences in localization between the two ATH presentations were found. Inducible antimicrobial defensin peptides exhibited great inter-individual variability in terms of both CNV and gene expression, but no correlation with presentation of ATH was found
Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) Methylation and Chronic Pain: A Systematic Review
Background and objective: Chronic pain represents a major global health issue in terms of psycho-physiological, therapeutic, and economic burden, not limited to adults but also to the pediatric age. Despite its great impact, its molecular mechanisms have still not been completely unraveled. Focusing on the impact of epigenetics in the pain complex trait, we assessed the association between chronic pain and the methylation pattern of TRPA1, a key gene related to pain sensitivity. Methods: We conducted a systematic review retrieving articles from three different databases. After deduplication, 431 items were subjected to manual screening, and then 61 articles were selected and screened again. Of these, only six were maintained for meta-analysis and analyzed using specific R packages. Results: Six articles were divided into two groups (group 1: comparison of mean methylation levels between healthy subjects and patients with chronic pain; group 2: correlation between mean methylation levels and pain sensation). A non-significant mean difference was obtained from the analysis of group 1 with a value of 3.97 (95% C.I. -7.79; 15.73). Analysis of group 2 showed a high level of variability between studies (correlation = 0.35, 95% C.I. -0.12; 0.82) due to their heterogeneity (I2 = 97%, p < 0.01). Conclusions: Despite the high variability observed in the different studies analyzed, our results suggest that hypermethylation and increased pain sensitivity could be connected, possibly due to the variation of TRPA1 expression

Optimization of Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Treatments Based on Curcumin, Used Alone or Employed as a Photosensitizer.
Curcumin, the bioactive compound of the spice Curcuma longa, has already been reported as a potential COVID-19 adjuvant treatment due to its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, SARS-CoV-2 was challenged with curcumin; moreover, curcumin was also coupled with laser light at 445 nm in a photodynamic therapy approach. Curcumin at a concentration of 10 μM, delivered to the virus prior to inoculation on cell culture, inhibited SARS-CoV-2 replication (reduction >99%) in Vero E6 cells, possibly due to disruption of the virion structure, as observed using the RNase protection assay. However, curcumin was not effective as a prophylactic treatment on already-infected Vero E6 cells. Notably, when curcumin was employed as a photosensitizer and blue laser light at 445 nm was delivered to a mix of curcumin/virus prior to the inoculation on the cells, virus inactivation was observed (>99%) using doses of curcumin that were not antiviral by themselves. Photodynamic therapy employing crude curcumin can be suggested as an antiviral option against SARS-CoV-2 infection
Pre-treatment risk assessment of women with endometrial cancer: differences in outcomes of molecular and clinical classifications in the Slovenian patient cohort
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in prognostic risk profiles of women with endometrial cancer by comparing the clinical risk assessment with the integrated molecular risk assessment profiling. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This prospective study recruited patients with biopsy proven endometrial cancer treated at the University Medical Centre Maribor between January 2020 to February 2021. Patient clinical data was assessed and categorized according to the currently valid European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology, and European Society of Pathology (ESGO/ESTRO/ESP) guidelines on endometrial cancer. Molecular tumour characterization included determination of exonuclease domain of DNA polymerase-epsilon (POLE) mutational status by Sanger sequencing and imunohistochemical specimen evaluation on the presence of mismatch repair deficiencies (MMRd) and p53 abnormalities (p53abn). RESULTS: Fourty-five women were included in the study. Twenty-two tumours were of non-specific mutational profile (NSMP) (56.4%), 13 were classified as MMRd (33.3%), 3 were classified as p53abn (7.7%) and 1 was classified as POLE mutated (2.6%). Six tumours (15.4%) had multiple molecular classifiers, these were studied separately and were not included in the risk assessment. The clinical risk-assessment classified 21 women (53.8%) as low-risk, 5 women (12.8%) as intermediate risk, 2 women as high-intermediate risk (5.1%), 10 women (25.6%) as high risk and 1 patient as advanced metastatic (2.6%). The integrated molecular classification changed risk for 4 women (10.3%). CONCLUSIONS: Integrated molecular risk improves personalized risk assessment in endometrial cancer and could potentially improve therapeutic precision. Further molecular stratification with biomarkers is especially needed in the NSMP group to improve personalized risk-assessment
