Design of sediment oxygen demand (SOD) 'in-situ' measuring chamber and its application in several rivers

    Get PDF
Sediment oxygen demand is defined as the rate of dissolved oxygen removal from the water column by the decomposition of organic materials in the bottom sediments. Accurate SOD rates are important, as they will allow for more precise permits specifications and therefore the degree or level of wastewater treatment needed. The "in situ" SOD chamber designed for the study was adapted from an earlier design by the USEPA (Hatcher, 1986). Two sets of chambers of differing sizes were fabricated and used to measure the SOD levels in several rivers and a small lake. These measurements could be used for the calibration and validation water quality models. Another applied usage of the SOD chamber was for the management of aquaculture ponds. The knowledge of the SOD levels at the bottom of the aquaculture ponds will allow for a more systematic pond-cleaning schedule

In Vitro Fertilization Of Hamster Ova As An Aid In Assessing The Fertilizing Capacity Of Human Spermatozoa

    Get PDF
Studies have been recently undertaken in many research laboratories to examine the fertilizing capacity of spermatozoa from human male s with histories of unexplained infer tility to investigate their ability to penetrate ova . Since human ova are not readily available , hamster ova have been used as a substitute for these studies and research is going on to test the validity o f this as say as areliable diagnostic tool for examining spermovum interaction in man and animals. A study was undertaken to develop such an as say system for evaluating the causes of 'unexplained infertility ' in males at the National Population and Family Development Board in Kuala Lumpur

Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) towards SME'S: A conceptual view

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this paper is to deepen and to understand the concept of green management that is now getting the attention in the community. Currently, climate changes dramatically adverse impact on the population of the world.Events such as hurricanes, rising sea levels and global warming give an impact to human lives.Various parties are now demanding that each entity should play their role in the problems to overcome these phenomena. Thus, scholars in the field of management have begun to turn their attention to look forward to into sustainability. The rising of research and studies shown that these issues attracting researcher's mind.Green management is seen as one of the best methods to solve this problem.Large companies start to promote their actions to save the environment and implementing green management in their daily operation but most of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) seen still in the low level of their involvement heading over towards sustainability. This paper will look some aspects of green management and highlighted the previous studies that have been conducted to see the issue debated in green management. In addition, this paper also checking out the issues inherent to SMEs in implementing green management to achieve sustainability in their business

Determinants of exchange rate: a case study of Malaysia / Zulkifli Mohd Nasir and Mohamed Nazim Khairi Mohamed Khir

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to investigate factors affecting exchange rate in Southeast Asian countries which is focusing on Malaysia. The dependent variable of this study is exchange rate while independent variables are price of oil, growth domestic product (GDP), inflation rate and interest rate. The data collected covers the period from 1997 until 2015. This study employs time series in order to study the relationship between those variables. The result of this study found that inflation rate and interest rate has positive significant relationship with exchange rate. We are focusing on the fluctuation price of oil will give the impact the volatility of exchange rate. The main objective is to investigate whether there is a relationship between selected independent variables and exchange rate in Malaysia. The methodology use in this research is secondary data that collected from data stream. We analyse the raw data using Econometric-view 9 (EView9). Our finding prove that the independent variable price of oil and gross domestic product GDP) are significant with dependent variable exchange rate. For the other researcher, they should focus or highlight on relationship between price of oil and gross domestic product (GDP) towards exchange rate

The influence of technology, environment and user acceptance on the effectiveness of information system project selection using SEM

    Get PDF
The selection of the present information system project is difficult because of the many factors that influence it. Information system project should pay attention to the user acceptance, technology and the environment in terms of their influence on the information system project selection. The purpose of this paper is to determine how much influence user acceptance, technology and the environment have on the information system project selection. This research uses data obtained from several ministries and analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Models). The results found that the technology and the environment affects user acceptance. Moreover, technology and environment affect the effectiveness of the information systems project selection through the mediating effect of user acceptance. User acceptance, tested by the incorporation of usefulness and ease of use, the results are more modest and in line with previous theories. Furthermore, the external environment highly impacts the information system project selection

Factors influencing intention to use e-learning by agricultural extension agents in Malaysia

    Get PDF
The application of e-learning has extended beyond the traditional educational establishments to various other areas including agricultural sector. In agricultural sector, extension services are perhaps the key beneficiary of e-learning, being in the unique position as an intermediary between agricultural specialists and farmers.Hence the objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, management support and training; and the intention to use e-learning technology among agricultural extension agents in Malaysian agricultural sector. This quantitative study was based on Theory of Planned Behavior with management support and training as additional constructs. While there were many studies that investigated factors affecting intention to use e learning in educational institutions, there were limited studies of the same in the context of extension agents in agriculture setting. The results showed that all of the hypotheses developed by the previous authors were supported by the study, and further revealed that management support is the most important determinant of agricultural extension agent’s intention to use e-learning, followed by attitude. Finally, the implications of this study were discussed, and further research directions were proposed

Using WEDPI learning package to upgrade teacher's skills on information technology

    Get PDF
The change in teaching techniques which applies information technology brings about a paradigm shift in our country's educational system. However, past researches have shown that the application of information technology in classrooms is still at an unsatisfactory level. This is caused by a group of teachers who haven't been able to master the basic skills of information technology application even after attending the courses. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to determine the level of skillfulness of primary school teachers - especially those in the interiors - on information technology, and thereafter develop a multimedia learning package (WEDPI Package for Learning) which will hopefully assist these weak teachers to increase their level of skillfulness in information technology. WEDPI refers to the productivity tools, which includes applications for word-processing (Microsoft Word), electronic spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), database (Microsoft Access), presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint) and the Internet. This research adopted the quantitative approach and the ADDIE model was used in the development of this multimedia learning package. To obtain information on the level of skillfulness, the researcher carried out a hands-on test. The pre-experimental designs, which are the pre-test and post-test, were executed to determine if there were any difference in the level of skillfulness of the teachers after using the WEDPI Package for Learning. The research findings showed that teachers involved gave positive comments about the experience in using this stand alone learning material. The respondents also stated that the WEDPI Package for Learning is easy to use, flexible and is able to help them increase their level of skills in information technology. This is supported by the t-test results which show that there is a significant difference in the achievement of teachers' scores

Dynamic supply chain management: Applying the qualitative data analysis software

    Get PDF
Analysis of data has been known as one of the most significant stages in a qualitative research process. The purpose of this article is to share elements for understanding during the process of preparing an analysis using the qualitative data analysis (QDA) software. ATLAS.ti version 7.1.7, the QDA software, provides some very valuable tools in academic research, especially for social science fields. This paper offers a review of dynamic capabilities in dynamic supply chain management by utilizing QDA software package. Moreover, steps how to use ATLAS.ti and figures are provided to describe the research presented with examples. This will serve as a guideline for beginner's researchers in qualitative research who are applying the QDA software, particularly ATLAS.ti. As such, use of the analysis outlined in this article should help to support the rigor in qualitative research
