First annotated checklist of Chironomidae of Rhodos, Greece (Insecta, Diptera)

Chironomid fauna of Greek Aegean islands, an essential part of the biogeographically important Mediterranean region, is almost unexplored, with only 36 species recorded prior to the present study. It is especially true for Dodecanese islands (6 recorded species). In 2007, chironomid larvae and exuviae were collected in Rhodos, the largest member of the Dodecanese islands. Thirty-four taxa were identified (8 Tanypodinae, 10 Orthocladiinae, 16 Chironominae). None of the previously recorded taxa were found; thus all collected species proved to be new for the fauna of Rhodos. An actualized checklist for the Chironomidae of Rhodos is given based on the literature and results of recent investigations

Probing individual split Cooper-pairs using the spin qubit toolkit

A superconductor is a natural source of spin-entangled spatially separated electron pairs. Although the first Cooper-pair splitter devices have been realized recently, an experimental confirmation of the spin state and the entanglement of the emitted electron pairs is lacking up to now. In this paper a method is proposed to confirm the spin-singlet character of individual split Cooper pairs. Two quantum dots (QDs), each of them holding one spin-prepared electron, serve as the detector of the spin state of a single Cooper pair that is forced to split when it tunnels out from the superconductor to the QDs. The number of charges on the QDs, measured at the end of the procedure, carries information on the spin state of the extracted Cooper pair. The method relies on the experimentally established toolkit of QD-based spin qubits: resonant spin manipulation, Pauli blockade, and charge measurement.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure

Hungarian occurence and frequency of Berosus frontifoveatus, Berosus spinosus and Berosus fulvus are discussed based on museum specimens and literature data. Data summarized on UTM-gridmaps. All data of Berosus fulvus from Hungary and Carpathian Basin are listed. An identification key to the hungarian species of Enoplurus subgenus is given
