    Estimate of halo ellipticity as a function of radius with flexions

    The cold dark matter theory predicts triaxial dark matter haloes. The radial distribution of halo ellipticity depends on baryonic processes and the nature of dark matter particles (collisionless or collisional). Here we show that we can use lensing flexion ratios to measure the halo ellipticity as a function of radius. We introduce a weight function and study the relationship between the first and second order statistics of flexion ratios, both of which can be used to reduce the bias in the estimate of ellipticity. we perform numerical tests for our method, and demonstrate that it can reduce the bias and determine the halo ellipticity as a function of radius. We also point out that the minimum mean flexion ratio can be used to trace the centres of galaxy clusters.Comment: 9 pages,9 figures, MNRAS accepte

    The vibrational distribution P(v) of 2-Na^+ ions created in ultracold collisions in a magneto-optical trap has been deter- mined. Only two vibrational states with v = 2 and 3 are popu- lated and we find P(2)=0.29±0.02 and P(3)=0.71±0.02. The results provide conclusive evidence that the ionization mech- anism is photo-associative autoionization,and not photo- associative photoionization and will form a fundamental test for the theoretical description of the process

    This presentation aims to describe an international project to edit the corpus of Old Norse-Icelandic skaldic poetry and to outline some issues related to electronic aspects of the project, both in its organisation and in its publication. Prof. Clunies Ross will outline the nature of the project and the place of the electronic edition. Tarrin Wills will present information relating to the electronic encoding of the corpus.     Structural and Superconducting Transitions in Mg_{1-x}Al_{x}B_2

    From systematic ab initio calculations of the alloy system Mg_{1-x}Al_{x}B_2, we find a strong tendency for the formation of a superstructure characterized by Al-rich layers. We also present a simple model, based on calculated energies and an estimate of the configurational entropy, which suggests that the alloy has two separate concentration regimes of phase separation, with critical points near x = 0.25 and x = 0.75. These results, together with calculations of electronic densities of states in several ionic arrangements, give a qualitative explanation for the observed structural instabilities, as well as the x-dependence of the superconducting T_c for x<0.6.Comment: 4 pp./4 figs.; revisions in responce to Referee comment

    One-year efficacy and safety of routine prasugrel in patients with acute coronary syndromes treated with percutaneous coronary intervention

    Objective: To investigate 1‑year outcomes with routine prasugrel treatment after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in a large-scale registry. Methods: The Rijnmond Collective Cardiology Research registry is a prospective, observational study that enrolled 4,258 consecutive ACS patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with 1‑year follow-up. Patients received prasugrel as first-choice antiplatelet agent, except for increased bleeding risk patients in which clopidogrel was recommended. Events were validated by an independent clinical endpoint committee. Results: A total number of 2,677 patients received prasugrel at discharge after the index event. Eighty-one percent of the target population was on prasugrel treatment at hospital discharge. At 1 year, the primary endpoint, a composite of all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction, occurred in 2.4% of patients receiving prasugrel. All-cause mortality occurred in 1.0%, myocardial infarction in 1.5%, target-vessel revascularisation in 3.1%, stent thrombosis in 0.6%, and stroke in 0.5% of the patients treated with prasugrel. Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction defined major bleeding episodes not related to coronary artery bypass grafting were observed in 1.4% of patients receiving prasugrel. Conclusions: In routine practice, a tailored approach of prasugrel prescription in ACS patients undergoing PCI, resulted in low ischaemic and low bleeding rates up to 1 year post PCI
