Quantum-classical transition of the escape rate of uniaxial antiferromagnetic particles in an arbitrarily directed field
Quantum-classical escape rate transition has been studied for uniaxial
antiferromagnetic particles with an arbitrarily directed magnetic field. In the
case that the transverse and longitudinal fileds coexist, we calculate the
phase boundary line between first- and second-order transitions, from which
phase diagrams can be obtained. It is shown that the effects of the applied
longitudinal magnetic field on quantum-classical transition vary greatly for
different relative magnitudes of the non-compensation.Comment: to be appeared in Phys. Rev.
Quantum nucleation in ferromagnets with tetragonal and hexagonal symmetries
The phenomenon of quantum nucleation is studied in a ferromagnet in the
presence of a magnetic field at an arbitrary angle. We consider the
magnetocrystalline anisotropy with tetragonal symmetry and that with hexagonal
symmetry, respectively. By applying the instanton method in the
spin-coherent-state path-integral representation, we calculate the dependence
of the rate of quantum nucleation and the crossover temperature on the
orientation and strength of the field for a thin film and for a bulk solid. Our
results show that the rate of quantum nucleation and the crossover temperature
depend on the orientation of the external magnetic field distinctly, which
provides a possible experimental test for quantum nucleation in nanometer-scale
ferromagnets.Comment: 19 pages and 3 figures, Final version and accepted by Phys. Rev. B

Proton strangeness form factors in (4,1) clustering configurations
We reexamine a recent result within a nonrelativistic constituent quark model
(NRCQM) which maintains that the uuds\bar s component in the proton has its
uuds subsystem in P state, with its \bar s in S state (configuration I). When
the result are corrected, contrary to the previous result, we find that all the
empirical signs of the form factors data can be described by the lowest-lying
uuds\bar s configuration with \bar s in P state that has its uuds subsystem in
state (configuration II). Further, it is also found that the removal of the
center-of-mass (CM) motion of the clusters will enhance the contributions of
the transition current considerably. We also show that a reasonable description
of the existing form factors data can be obtained with a very small probability
P_{s\bar s}=0.025% for the uuds\bar s component. We further see that the
agreement of our prediction with the data for G_A^s at low-q^2 region can be
markedly improved by a small admixture of configuration I. It is also found
that by not removing CM motion, P_{s\bar s} would be overestimated by about a
factor of four in the case when transition dominates over direct currents.
Then, we also study the consequence of a recent estimate reached from analyzing
the existing data on quark distributions that P_{s\bar s} lies between 2.4-2.9%
which would lead to a large size for the five-quark (5q) system, as well as a
small bump in both G^s_E+\eta G^s_M and G^s_E in the region of q^2 =< 0.1
GeV^2.Comment: Prepared for The Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on Few-Body Problems

Splitting of the pi - rho spectrum in a renormalized light-cone QCD-inspired model
We show that the splitting between the light pseudo-scalar and vector meson
states is due to the strong short-range attraction in the ^1S_0 sector which
makes the pion and the kaon light particles. We use a light-cone QCD-inspired
model of the mass squared operator with harmonic confinement and a Dirac-delta
interaction. We apply a renormalization method to define the model, in which
the pseudo-scalar ground state mass fixes the renormalized strength of the
Dirac-delta interaction.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, revtex, accepted by Phys. Rev. D; Corrected typo
Oxygen depletion recorded in upper waters of the glacial Southern Ocean
Oxygen depletion in the upper ocean is commonly associated with poor ventilation and storage of respired carbon, potentially linked to atmospheric CO2 levels. Iodine to calcium ratios (I/Ca) in recent planktonic foraminifera suggest that values less than ~2.5 μmol mol−1 indicate the presence of O2-depleted water. Here we apply this proxy to estimate past dissolved oxygen concentrations in the near surface waters of the currently well-oxygenated Southern Ocean, which played a critical role in carbon sequestration during glacial times. A down-core planktonic I/Ca record from south of the Antarctic Polar Front (APF) suggests that minimum O2 concentrations in the upper ocean fell below 70 μmol kg−1 during the last two glacial periods, indicating persistent glacial O2 depletion at the heart of the carbon engine of the Earth’s climate system. These new estimates of past ocean oxygenation variability may assist in resolving mechanisms responsible for the much-debated ice-age atmospheric CO2 decline
The Beale-Kato-Majda criterion to the 3D Magneto-hydrodynamics equations
We study the blow-up criterion of smooth solutions to the 3D MHD equations.
By means of the Littlewood-Paley decomposition, we prove a Beale-Kato-Majda
type blow-up criterion of smooth solutions via the vorticity of velocity only,
i. e. \sup_{j\in\Z}\int_0^T\|\Delta_j(\na\times u)\|_\infty dt, where
is a frequency localization on .Comment: 12page
Quasi-spin Model for Macroscopic Quantum Tunnelling between Two Coupled Bose-Einstein Condensates
The macroscopic quantum tunneling between two coupled Bose-Einstein
condensates (BEC) (radio-frequency coupled two-component BECs or two BECs
confined in a double-well potential) is mapped onto the tunneling of an
uniaxial spin with an applied magnetic field. The tunneling exponent is
calculated with an imaginary-time path-integral method. In the limit of low
barrier, the dependence of tunneling exponent on the system parameters is
obtained, and the crossover temperature from thermal regime to quantum regime
is estimated. The detailed information about the tunnelling will give help to
control population conversion between coupled BECs and realize quantum
computation with coupled BECs.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys.Rev.
Photon-assisted tunneling in a Fe8 Single-Molecule Magnet
The low temperature spin dynamics of a Fe8 Single-Molecule Magnet was studied
under circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation allowing us to establish
clearly photon-assisted tunneling. This effect, while linear at low power,
becomes highly non-linear above a relatively low power threshold. This
non-linearity is attributed to the nature of the coupling of the sample to the
thermostat. These results are of great importance if such systems are to be used
as quantum computers.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
