    Deep quantization network with visual-semantic alignment for zero-shot image retrieval

    Approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) search has become an essential paradigm for large-scale image retrieval. Conventional ANN search requires the categories of query images to been seen in the training set. However, facing the rapid evolution of newly-emerging concepts on the web, it is too expensive to retrain the model via collecting labeled data with the new (unseen) concepts. Existing zero-shot hashing methods choose the semantic space or intermediate space as the embedding space, which ignore the inconsistency of visual space and semantic space and suffer from the hubness problem on the zero-shot image retrieval task. In this paper, we present an novel deep quantization network with visual-semantic alignment for efficient zero-shot image retrieval. Specifically, we adopt a multi-task architecture that is capable of 1) 1) learning discriminative and polymeric image representations for facilitating the visual-semantic alignment; 2) 2) learning discriminative semantic embeddings for knowledge transfer; and 3) 3) learning compact binary codes for aligning the visual space and the semantic space. We compare the proposed method with several state-of-the-art methods on several benchmark datasets, and the experimental results validate the superiority of the proposed method

    Signal Processing for Digital Beamforming FMCW SAR

    According to the limitations of single channel Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave (FMCW) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Digital Beamforming (DBF) technology is introduced to improve system performance. Combined with multiple receive apertures, DBF FMCW SAR can obtain high resolution in low pulse repetition frequency, which can increase the processing gain and decrease the sampling frequency. The received signal model of DBF FMCW SAR is derived. The continuous antenna motion which is the main characteristic of FMCW SAR received signal is taken into account in the whole signal processing. The detailed imaging diagram of DBF FMCW SAR is given. A reference system is also demonstrated in the paper by comparing with a single channel FMCW SAR. The validity of the presented diagram is demonstrated with a point target simulation results

    An 852 nm Faraday laser with 8 kHz linewidth based on corner-cube retroreflector

    A single-mode Cs atom 852 nm Faraday laser based on the corner-cube reflector feedback is first demonstrated to our best knowledge. Using the corner-cube reflector as external cavity feedback in Faraday laser, the robustness can be greatly improved. This Faraday laser can always achieve laser oscillation unless the angle between incident light and the optical axis of corner-cube retroreflector is beyond the plus or minus 3{\deg} range. Furthermore, the Faraday laser achieves single-mode operation within the current range of 100 mA , and its output wavelength is automatically limited to the vicinity of the Cs atomic transition lines. The wavelength fluctuation range is limited to plus or minus 1.2 pm within 9 hours under +3{\deg} rotation angle. Moreover, the most probable linewidth is 7.97 kHz measured by heterodyne beating. The Faraday laser with high robustness as well as narrow linewidth can be widely used in quantum precision measurement fields including quantum optics, atomic clocks, atomic magnetometers, cold atoms, and atomic gravimeters, etc

    Sulforaphane Attenuates Contrast-Induced Nephropathy in Rats via Nrf2/HO-1 Pathway

    Background. Oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant effects of sulforaphane (SFN) in a rat model of CIN and a cell model of oxidative stress in HK2 cells. Methods. Rats were randomized into four groups (n=6 per group): control group, Ioversol group (Ioversol-induced CIN), Ioversol + SFN group (CIN rats pretreated with SFN), and SFN group (rats treated with SFN). Renal function tests, malondialdehyde (MDA), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were measured. Western blot, real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis, and immunohistochemical analysis were performed for nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) detection. Results. Serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and renal tissue MDA were increased after contrast exposure. Serum BUN, creatinine, and renal tissue MDA were decreased in the Ioversol + SFN group as compared with those in the Ioversol group. SFN increased the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 in CIN rats and in Ioversol-induced injury HK2 cells. SFN increased cell viability and attenuated ROS level in vitro. Conclusions. SFN attenuates experimental CIN in vitro and in vivo. This effect is suggested to activate the Nrf2 antioxidant defenses pathway

    Analytical Methods Inductively coupled plasma orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ICP-oa-TOF-MS) analysis of heavy metal content in Indocalamus tesselatus samples

    a b s t r a c t Indocalamus tesselatus is one of the most popular packing materials in China. Heavy metals in Chinese I. tesselatus samples have received great interest because they are related to health. A simple and fast method for the determination of Pb, Cd, Mn, Ni, Cr, As, Hg, Cu and Zn, by inductively coupled plasma orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ICP-oa-TOF-MS), following microwave closed vessel digestion of samples, was proposed. The method was validated using standard reference material (GBW 07605-Tea). Samples of I. tesselatus from five different regions of China were analysed using the proposed method. Heavy metals contents from different regions were found at different levels. Their low contents of heavy metals showed that collection areas were not polluted and all collected I. tesselatus samples could be unreservedly used as food packing materials without any health risk

    Impacts of climate change on climatically suitable regions of two invasive Erigeron weeds in China

    IntroductionErigeron philadelphicus and Erigeron annuus are two ecologically destructive invasive plants from the Asteraceae family. Predicting the potential distribution pattern of two invasive alien Erigeron weeds can provide a scientific basis for prevent the further spread of these two weeds in China under climate change.MethodsBased on historical occurrence datasets and environmental variables, we optimized a MaxEnt model to predict the potential suitable habitats of E. philadelphicus and E. annuus. We also analyzed the shifts of distribution centroids and patterns under climate change scenarios.ResultsThe key variables that affect the potential geographical distribution of E. annuus and E. philadelphicus, respectively, are temperature seasonality and precipitation of the driest month. Moreover, topsoil sodicity and topsoil salinity also influence the distribution of E. philadelphicus. Under climate change, the overall suitable habitats for both invasive alien Erigeron weeds are expected to expand. The potential geographical distribution of E. annuus exhibited the highest expansion under the SSP245 climate scenario (medium forcing scenarios), whereas E. philadelphicus had the highest expansion under the SSP126 climate scenario (lower forcing scenarios) globally. The future centroid of E. annuus is projected to shift to higher latitudes specifically from Hubei to Hebei, whereas E. philadelphicus remains concentrated primarily in Hubei Province. The overlapping suitable areas of the two invasive alien Erigeron plants mainly occur in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, and Chongqing, within China.DiscussionClimate change will enable E. annuus to expand into northeastern region and invade Yunnan Province whereas E. philadelphicus was historically the only suitable species. E. annuus demonstrates a greater potential for invasion and expansion under climate change, as it exhibits higher environmental tolerance. The predictive results obtained in this study can serve as a valuable reference for early warning systems and management strategies aimed at controlling the spread of these two invasive plants

    The Effect of Organic-cr Dietary Supplementation on Stress Response in Transport-stressed Beef Cattle

    Transportation over long distances resulted in stress at animal. Under these circumstances, animalusually manifest depression and the impact on physiological condition changes and loss of body weight.The objectives of the research were to examine effect supplementation of organic-Cr type into diets intransport-stress beef cattle on physiological condition, haematochemical (included were haematologicalcondition and blood chemical) and body weight changes. The experiment was conducted using 16 beefcattle those were transported by truck for a distance of 400 km from Malangbong to Tangerang. Theexperiment was arranged by Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and four replications.The dietary treatments consisted of R0 (basal diet without Cr supplemented), R1 (R0+3ppm organic-Crresulted of alkali hydrolysis), R2 (R0+3 ppm organic-Cr resulted from bioprocess), R3 (R0+3 ppmorganic-Cr resulted from bioremediation). The result indicated that type of organic-Cr supplementationat 3 ppm in diet did not influence physiological condition, haematochemical and body weight at beefcattle transported for seven hours. There was indication that beef cattle fed on control diet (without Cr)showed a stress symptom, their loss of body weight were higher (5.41%) compared to beef given dietcontains organic-Cr (3.72%, 5.04% and 4.83%, respectively for R1, R2 and R3)
