    Similarity-aware deep attentive model for clickbait detection

    © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019. Clickbait is a type of web content advertisements designed to entice readers into clicking accompanying links. Usually, such links will lead to articles that are either misleading or non-informative, making the detection of clickbait essential for our daily lives. Automated clickbait detection is a relatively new research topic. Most recent work handles the clickbait detection problem with deep learning approaches to extract features from the meta-data of content. However, little attention has been paid to the relationship between the misleading titles and the target content, which we found to be an important clue for enhancing clickbait detection. In this work, we propose a deep similarity-aware attentive model to capture and represent such similarities with better expressiveness. In particular, we present the ways of either using similarity only or integrating it with other available quality features for the clickbait detection. We evaluate our model on two benchmark datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach by outperforming a series of competitive state-of-the-arts and baseline methods

    A Personalized Self-Management Rehabilitation System for Stroke Survivors: A Quantitative Gait Analysis Using a Smart Insole.

    Background: In the United Kingdom, stroke is the single largest cause of adult disability and results in a cost to the economy of £8.9 billion per annum. Service needs are currently not being met; therefore, initiatives that focus on patient-centered care that promote long-term self-management for chronic conditions should be at the forefront of service redesign. The use of innovative technologies and the ability to apply these effectively to promote behavior change are paramount in meeting the current challenges. Objective: Our objective was to gain a deeper insight into the impact of innovative technologies in support of home-based, self-managed rehabilitation for stroke survivors. An intervention of daily walks can assist with improving lower limb motor function, and this can be measured by using technology. This paper focuses on assessing the usage of self-management technologies on poststroke survivors while undergoing rehabilitation at home. Methods: A realist evaluation of a personalized self-management rehabilitation system was undertaken in the homes of stroke survivors (N=5) over a period of approximately two months. Context, mechanisms, and outcomes were developed and explored using theories relating to motor recovery. Participants were encouraged to self-manage their daily walking activity; this was achieved through goal setting and motivational feedback. Gait data were collected and analyzed to produce metrics such as speed, heel strikes, and symmetry. This was achieved using a “smart insole” to facilitate measurement of walking activities in a free-living, nonrestrictive environment. Results: Initial findings indicated that 4 out of 5 participants performed better during the second half of the evaluation. Performance increase was evident through improved heel strikes on participants’ affected limb. Additionally, increase in performance in relation to speed was also evident for all 5 participants. A common strategy emerged across all but one participant as symmetry performance was sacrificed in favor of improved heel strikes. This paper evaluates compliance and intensity of use. Conclusion: Our findings suggested that 4 out of the 5 participants improved their ability to heel strike on their affected limb. All participants showed improvements in their speed of gait measured in steps per minute with an average increase of 9.8% during the rehabilitation program. Performance in relation to symmetry showed an 8.5% average decline across participants, although 1 participant improved by 4%. Context, mechanism, and outcomes indicated that dual motor learning and compensatory strategies were deployed by the participants

    EcoDaLo : federating advertisement targeting with linked data

    A key source of revenue for the media and entertainmentdomain isad targeting: serving advertisements to a select set of visitorsbased on various captured visitor traits. Compared to global media com-panies such as Google and Facebook that aggregate data from varioussources (and the privacy concerns these aggregations bring), local compa-nies only capture a small number of (high-quality) traits and retrieve anunbalanced small amount of revenue. To increase these local publishers’competitive advantage, they need to join forces, whilst taking the visi-tors’ privacy concerns into account. The EcoDaLo consortium, located in Belgium and consisting of Adlogix, Pebble Media, and Roularta MediaGroup as founding partners, aims to combine local publishers’ data without requiring these partners to share this data across the consortium.Usage of Semantic Web technologies enables a decentralized approachwhere federated querying allows local companies to combine their captured visitor traits, and better target visitors, without aggregating alldata. To increase potential uptake, technical complexity to join this consortium is kept minimal, and established technology is used where possible. This solution was showcased in Belgium which provided the participating partners valuable insights and suggests future research challenges. Perspectives are to enlarge the consortium and provide measurable impact in ad targeting to local publishers

    Non-syndromic Hearing Impairment in a Hungarian Family with the m.7510T>C Mutation of Mitochondrial tRNA^^Ser(UCN)^^^ and Review of Published Cases

    The m.7510T>C mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutation is a tRNA(Ser(UCN)) alteration leading to matrilineal isolated hearing impairment. The current paper reviews the available reports on the m.7510T>C mtDNA mutation, with special attention to phenotypic variations and haplogroup background. A Hungarian family, the fourth family reported in the literature, is presented, in which analysis of three generations with bilateral isolated hearing loss revealed the m.7510T>C tRNA(Ser(UCN)) mutation in homoplasmic form in the affected members. Haplogroup analysis verified an unnamed subgroup of mitochondrial haplogroup H. Previously reported Spanish and North American Caucasian families belong to different subgroups of haplogroup H. Analyzing our biobank of Hungarian patients with sensorineural hearing loss, we did not detect this mutation in any other patient, nor was it found in Caucasian haplogroup H control samples. Comparing the cases reported so far, there is interfamilial variablity in the age of onset, accompanying symptoms, and haplogroup background. Our case adds further genetic evidence for the pathogenicity of the m.7510T>C mutation and underlines the need to include full mtDNA sequencing in the screening for unexplained hearing loss

    Expression, purification and characterization of the Lily symptomless virus coat protein from Lanzhou Isolate

    Background: Lily symptomless virus (LSV) is widespread in many countries where lily are grown or planted, and causes severe economic losses in terms of quantity and quality of flower and bulb production. To study the structure-function relationship of coat protein (CP) of LSV, to investigate antigenic relationships between coat protein subunits or intact virons, and to prepare specific antibodies against LSV, substantial amounts of CP protein are needed. Results: Thus, full-length cDNA of LSV coat protein was synthesized and amplified by RT-PCR from RNA isolated from LSV Lanzhou isolate. The extended 33.6 kDa CP was cloned and expressed prokaryoticly and then purified by Ni-ion affinity chromatography. Its identity and antigenicity of recombinant CP were identified on Western-blotting by using the prepared anti-LSV antibodies. Conclusions: The results indicate that fusion CP maintains its native antigenicity and specificity, providing a good source of antigen in preparation of LSV related antibodies. Detailed structural analysis of a pure recombinant CP should allow a better understanding of its role in cell attachment and LSV tropism. This investigation to LSV should provide some specific antibodies and aid to development a detection system for LSV diagnostics and epidemiologic surveys

    The Effectiveness of Lower-Limb Wearable Technology for Improving Activity and Participation in Adult Stroke Survivors: A Systematic Review

    Background: With advances in technology, the adoption of wearable devices has become a viable adjunct in poststroke rehabilitation. Regaining ambulation is a top priority for an increasing number of stroke survivors. However, despite an increase in research exploring these devices for lower limb rehabilitation, little is known of the effectiveness. Objective: This review aims to assess the effectiveness of lower limb wearable technology for improving activity and participation in adult stroke survivors. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of lower limb wearable technology for poststroke rehabilitation were included. Primary outcome measures were validated measures of activity and participation as defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Databases searched were MEDLINE, Web of Science (Core collection), CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used to assess the methodological quality of the RCTs. Results: In the review, we included 11 RCTs with collectively 550 participants at baseline and 474 participants at final follow-up including control groups and participants post stroke. Participants' stroke type and severity varied. Only one study found significant between-group differences for systems functioning and activity. Across the included RCTs, the lowest number of participants was 12 and the highest was 151 with a mean of 49 participants. The lowest number of participants to drop out of an RCT was zero in two of the studies and 19 in one study. Significant between-group differences were found across three of the 11 included trials. Out of the activity and participation measures alone, P values ranged from P=.87 to P≤.001. Conclusions: This review has highlighted a number of reasons for insignificant findings in this area including low sample sizes, appropriateness of the RCT methodology for complex interventions, a lack of appropriate analysis of outcome data, and participant stroke severity
