    Experimental Implementation of Noncyclic and Nonadiabatic Geometric Quantum Gates in a Superconducting Circuit

    Quantum gates based on geometric phases possess intrinsic noise-resilience features and therefore attract much attention. However, the implementations of previous geometric quantum computation typically require a long pulse time of gates. As a result, their experimental control inevitably suffers from the cumulative disturbances of systematic errors due to excessive time consumption. Here, we experimentally implement a set of noncyclic and nonadiabatic geometric quantum gates in a superconducting circuit, which greatly shortens the gate time. And also, we experimentally verify that our universal single-qubit geometric gates are more robust to both the Rabi frequency error and qubit frequency shift-induced error, compared to the conventional dynamical gates, by using the randomized benchmarking method. Moreover, this scheme can be utilized to construct two-qubit geometric operations, while the generation of the maximally entangled Bell states is demonstrated. Therefore, our results provide a promising routine to achieve fast, high-fidelity, and error-resilient quantum gates in superconducting quantum circuits

    Reducing electronic transport dimension to topological hinge states by increasing geometry size of Dirac semimetal Josephson junctions

    The notion of topological phases has been extended to higher-order and has been generalized to different dimensions. As a paradigm, Cd3As2 is predicted to be a higher-order topological semimetal, possessing three-dimensional (3D) bulk Dirac fermions, two-dimensional (2D) Fermi arcs, and one-dimensional (1D) hinge states. These topological states have different characteristic length scales in electronic transport, allowing to distinguish their properties when changing sample size. Here, we report an anomalous dimensional reduction of supercurrent transport by increasing the size of Dirac semimetal Cd3As2-based Josephson junctions. An evolution of the supercurrent quantum interferences from a standard Fraunhofer pattern to a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-like one is observed when the junction channel length is increased. The SQUID-like interference pattern indicates the supercurrent flowing through the 1D hinges. The identification of 1D hinge states should be valuable for deeper understanding the higher-order topological phase in a 3D Dirac semimetal

    Fermi-arc supercurrent oscillations in Dirac semimetal Josephson junctions

    One prominent hallmark of topological semimetals is the existence of unusual topological surface states known as Fermi arcs. Nevertheless, the Fermi-arc superconductivity remains elusive. Here, we report the critical current oscillations from surface Fermi arcs in Nb-Dirac semimetal Cd3As2-Nb Josephson junctions. The supercurrent from bulk states are suppressed under an in-plane magnetic field ~0.1 T, while the supercurrent from the topological surface states survives up to 0.5 T. Contrary to the minimum normal-state conductance, the Fermi-arc carried supercurrent shows a maximum critical value near the Dirac point, which is consistent with the fact that the Fermi arcs have maximum density of state at the Dirac point. Moreover, the critical current exhibits periodic oscillations with a parallel magnetic field, which is well understood by considering the in-plane orbital effect from the surface states. Our results suggest the Dirac semimetal combined with superconductivity should be promising for topological quantum devices.</p

    Association between bile acid metabolism and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women

    OBJECTIVES: Previous studies have not shown any correlation between bile acid metabolism and bone mineral density (BMD) in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. Thus, the current study evaluated the association between bile acid levels as well as BMD and bone turnover marker levels in this group of women. METHODS: This single-center cross-sectional study included 150 postmenopausal Chinese women. According to BMD, the participants were divided into three groups: osteoporosis group, osteopenia group, and healthy control group. Serum bile acid, fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19), and bone turnover biomarker levels were assessed. Moreover, the concentrations of parathyroid hormone, 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D], procollagen type I N-peptide (P1NP), and beta-CrossLaps of type I collagen containing cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide (bCTX) were evaluated. The BMD of the lumbar spine and proximal femur were examined via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. RESULTS: The serum total bile acid levels in the osteoporosis and osteopenia groups (5.28±1.56 and 5.31±1.56 umol/L, respectively) were significantly lower than that in the healthy control group (6.33±2.04 umol/L; p=0.002 and 0.018, respectively). Serum bile acid level was positively associated with the BMD of the lumbar spine, femoral neck, and total hip. However, it negatively correlated with b-CTX concentration. Moreover, no correlation was observed between bile acid and P1NP levels, and the levels of the other biomarkers that were measured did not differ between the groups. CONCLUSION: Serum bile acid was positively correlated with BMD and negatively correlated with bone turnover biomarkers reflecting bone absorption in postmenopausal women. Thus, bile acid may play an important role in bone metabolism

    G-quadruplex formation in human telomeric (TTAGGG)4 sequence with complementary strand in close vicinity under molecularly crowded condition

    Chromosomes in vertebrates are protected at both ends by telomere DNA composed of tandem (TTAGGG)n repeats. DNA replication produces a blunt-ended leading strand telomere and a lagging strand telomere carrying a single-stranded G-rich overhang at its end. The G-rich strand can form G-quadruplex structure in the presence of K+ or Na+. At present, it is not clear whether quadruplex can form in the double-stranded telomere region where the two complementary strands are constrained in close vicinity and quadruplex formation, if possible, has to compete with the formation of the conventional Watson–Crick duplex. In this work, we studied quadruplex formation in oligonucleotides and double-stranded DNA containing both the G- and C-rich sequences to better mimic the in vivo situation. Under such competitive condition only duplex was observed in dilute solution containing physiological concentration of K+. However, quadruplex could preferentially form and dominate over duplex structure under molecular crowding condition created by PEG as a result of significant quadruplex stabilization and duplex destabilization. This observation suggests quadruplex may potentially form or be induced at the blunt end of a telomere, which may present a possible alternative form of structures at telomere ends

    Effects of Different Thawing Methods on the Quality of Micropterus salmoides at Room Temperature

    In order to choose a suitable thawing method for Micropterus salmoides (room temperature thawing, running water thawing, saltwater thawing, ultrasonic static water thawing and ultrasonic running water thawing), this paper took Micropterus salmoides as the research subject. To investigate the effects of different thawing methods on water retention, total volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N), malondialdehyde content, peroxide value, total sulfhydryl content and Ca2+-ATPase activity of Micropterus salmoides. At the same time, the changes of texture properties such as hardness, elasticity and adhesion of fish were analyzed. The results showed that the normal temperature thaw 219 min, longest, fish water retention, lipid and protein oxidation was the most serious. Thawing water and salt water thawing time consuming 35 and 55 min, respectively, was the shorter of the normal temperature thaw, but fish water retention, protein oxidation, quality and structure characteristics of the various quality indexes such as the change was still serious. After ultrasonic static water thawing, the fish had better water retention and texture characteristics, and could effectively alleviate the oxidation of fish protein, but the lipid oxidation was more serious. Ultrasonic flow water thawing could complete the thawing of fish within 24 minutes, which was more efficient. Compared with other thawing methods, it could effectively maintain the water retention and texture characteristics of fish, and effectively delay the oxidation of fish protein and lipid. Ultrasonic thawing of frozen water, therefore, Micropterus salmoides had little effect on quality, was the most suitable thawing method

    Causal relationships of gut microbiota, plasma metabolites, and metabolite ratios with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: a Mendelian randomization study

    BackgroundRecent studies have revealed changes in microbiota constitution and metabolites associated with tumor progression, however, no causal relation between microbiota or metabolites and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has yet been reported.MethodsWe download a microbiota dataset from the MiBioGen study, a metabolites dataset from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) study, and a DLBCL dataset from Integrative Epidemiology Unit Open genome-wide association study (GWAS) project. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted using the R packages, TwoSampleMR and MR-PRESSO. Five MR methods were used: MR-Egger, inverse variance weighting (IVW), weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode. Reverse MR analyses were also conducted to explore the causal effects of DLBCL on the microbiome, metabolites, and metabolite ratios. Pleiotropy was evaluated by MR Egger regression and MR-PRESSO global analyses, heterogeneity was assessed by Cochran’s Q-test, and stability analyzed using the leave-one-out method.Results119 microorganisms, 1,091 plasma metabolite, and 309 metabolite ratios were analyzed. According to IVW analysis, five microorganisms were associated with risk of DLBCL. The genera Terrisporobacter (OR: 3.431, p = 0.049) andgenera Oscillibacter (OR: 2.406, p = 0.029) were associated with higher risk of DLBCL. Further, 27 plasma metabolites were identified as having a significant causal relationships with DLBCL, among which citrate levels had the most significant protective causal effect against DLBCL (p = 0.006), while glycosyl-N-tricosanoyl-sphingadienine levels was related to higher risk of DLBCL (p = 0.003). In addition, we identified 19 metabolite ratios with significant causal relationships to DLBCL, of which taurine/glutamate ratio had the most significant protective causal effect (p = 0.005), while the phosphoethanolamine/choline ratio was related to higher risk of DLBCL (p = 0.009). Reverse MR analysis did not reveal any significant causal influence of DLBCL on the above microbiota, metabolites, and metabolite ratios (p &gt; 0.05). Sensitivity analyses revealed no significant heterogeneity or pleiotropy (p &gt; 0.05).ConclusionWe present the first elucidation of the causal influence of microbiota and metabolites on DLBCL using MR methods, providing novel insights for potential targeting of specific microbiota or metabolites to prevent, assist in diagnosis, and treat DLBCL

    Home enteral nutrition for patients with esophageal cancer undergoing esophagectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    IntroductionHome enteral nutrition (HEN) is a relatively new nutritional intervention that provides patients with EN support at home through jejunostomy or nasogastric feeding tubes. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the safety and effect of HEN compared with normal oral diet (NOD) in postoperative patients with esophageal cancer (EC).MethodsEMBASE, Medline, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were used to search articles in English-language journals. The intervention effect was expressed using risk ratios (RRs) for dichotomous outcomes and mean differences (MDs) for continuous outcome measures, with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). The chi-square test and I-square test were used to test heterogeneity among studies.ResultsFour studies were eventually included in this meta-analysis. Compared with NOD, HEN has a favorable impact on postoperative body mass index (BMI) (weighted mean difference [WMD] = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.09–1.30, P = 0.02), lean body mass (LBM) (WMD = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.04–1.48, P = 0.04), and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) (WMD = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.02–0.58, P = 0.03). Physical function (WMD = 9.26, 95% CI: 8.00–10.53, P &lt; 0.001), role function (WMD = 9.96, 95% CI: 8.11–11.82, P &lt; 0.001), and social function (WMD = 8.51, 95% CI: 3.48–13.54, P = 0.001) of the HEN group were better than those of the NOD group at 3 months, and HEN could reduce the fatigue of patients (WMD = −12.73, 95% CI: −14.8 to −10.66, P &lt; 0.001) and the incidence of postoperative pneumonia (RR = 0.53, 95% CI: 0.34–0.81, P = 0.004). There was no significant difference in albumin between HEN and NOD groups (WMD = 0.05, 95% CI: −0.03 to 0.13, P = 0.20).ConclusionHEN improved nutritional status and quality of life (QOL) in postoperative patients with EC and reduced fatigue and the incidence of postoperative pneumonia. All in all, the results of our meta-analysis support the use of HEN after esophagectomy

    Intrahepatic HBV DNA as a predictor of antivirus treatment efficacy in HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B patients

    AIM: To evaluate the effect of antiviral agents on intrahepatic HBV DNA in HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B patients. METHODS: Seventy-one patients received treatment with lamivudine, interferon alpha (IFN-alpha 2b) or sequential therapy with lamivudine-IFN-alpha 2b for 48 wk. All subjects were followed up for 24 wk. Serum and intrahepatic HBV DNA were measured quantitatively by PCR. HBV genotypes were analyzed by PCR-RFLP. RESULTS: At the end of treatment, the intrahepatic HBV DNA level in 71 patients decreased from a mean of (6.1 +/- 1.0) log10 to (4.9 +/- 1.4) log10. Further, a larger decrease was seen in the intrahepatic HBV DNA level in patients with HBeAg seroconversion. Intrahepatic HBV DNA level (before and after treatment) was not significantly affected by the patients' HBV genotype, or by the probability of virological flare after treatment. CONCLUSION: Intrahepatic HBV DNA can be effectively lowered by antiviral agents and is a significant marker for monitoring antivirus treatment. Low intrahepatic HBV DNA level may achieve better efficacy of antivirus treatment
