    The Effects of Aqueous Extract from Nardostachys chinensis

    Aims. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the aqueous extract of Nardostachys chinensis Batalin (NCBAE) on blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy using two-kidney one-clip (2K1C) hypertensive rats. Methods. 2K1C rat models were set up by clipping the left renal artery. Sham-operated rats underwent the same surgical procedure except for renal arterial clipping. 2K1C hypertensive rats were orally given NCBAE at doses of 210, 420, and 630 mg·kg−1·d−1 for 6 weeks. Twelve weeks after surgery, rat SBP and echocardiographic parameters were measured, cardiac histopathology was assessed, serum NO and LDH were detected, and the expression of Bcl-2 and caspase-3 of left ventricular tissue was assessed by western blot. Results. Treatment with NCBAE resulted in a decrease of SBP, LVPWd, LVPWs, IVSd, IVSs, LVW/BW ratio, and cardiomyocyte CSA, an increase of LVEF, and inhibition of 2K1C-induced reduction in serum NO and elevation of LDH compared with 2K1C group. NCBAE intervention also showed a significant increase of Bcl-2 expression and reduction of cleaved caspase-3 level dose-dependently in left ventricular tissue. Conclusion. Our data demonstrate that NCBAE has an antihypertensive property and protective effect on 2K1C-induced cardiac hypertrophy especially at the dose of 630 mg·kg−1·d−1

    Optimizing Methanol Blending Performance of Electronically Controlled Diesel Engines through Fuzzy Analysis

    This paper presents a comprehensive optimization approach for enhancing the performance of a methanol/diesel Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) engine. Initially, a hybrid fuel engine combustion chamber model was developed using AVL-FIRE software, and the simulated results were compared with the values obtained from bench tests. An orthogonal experimental design was employed to optimize five key factors, namely methanol blending ratio, EGR rate, injection advance angle, intake pressure, and intake temperature. Evaluation indexes were established, with indicated power and NO emissions assigned weights of 0.35 and 0.65, respectively. The optimal parameter combinations were determined as follows: methanol blending ratio (a1=20%), EGR rate (a2=12.5%), injection advance angle (a3=16.6°CA), intake temperature (a4 = 315.15 K), and intake pressure (a5=0.173 MPa). The indicated power of the optimized configuration reached 47.8 kW, slightly lower than the original 55 kW, while the NO emission mass fraction decreased to 1.9×10-4%, representing a significant reduction of 77.6% compared to the original value of 8.5×10-4%. This optimization methodology demonstrates the effective reduction of NO emissions without compromising power performance in methanol/diesel EGR engines

    CDCA2 Inhibits Apoptosis and Promotes Cell Proliferation in Prostate Cancer and Is Directly Regulated by HIF-1α Pathway.

    Prostate cancer (PCa) is a major serious malignant tumor and is commonly diagnosed in older men. Identification of novel cancer-related genes in PCa is important for understanding its tumorigenesis mechanism and developing new therapies against PCa. Here, we used RNA sequencing to identify the specific genes, which are upregulated in PCa cell lines and tissues. The cell division cycle associated protein (CDCA) family, which plays a critical role in cell division and proliferation, is upregulated in the PCa cell lines of our RNA-Sequencing data. Moreover, we found that CDCA2 is overexpressed, and its protein level positively correlates with its histological grade, clinical stage, and Gleason Score. CDCA2 was further found to be upregulated and correlated with poor prognosis and patient survival in multiple cancer types in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset. The functional study suggests that inhibition of CDCA2 will lead to apoptosis and lower proliferation in vitro. Silencing of CDCA2 also repressed tumor growth in vivo. Loss of CDCA2 affects several oncogenic pathways, including MAPK signaling. In addition, we further demonstrated that CDCA2 was induced in hypoxia and directly regulated by the HIF-1α/Smad3 complex. Thus, our data indicate that CDCA2 could act as an oncogene and is regulated by hypoxia and the HIF-1αpathway. CDCA2 may be a useful prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target for PCa

    Interlayer transmission of magnons in dynamic spin valve structures

    Magnonic devices are promising alternatives to conventional charge-current-driven spintronic devices. As the basic unit of spintronic devices, the spin valve is of limited use in magnonics because its dynamics is rarely studied. Here, we investigate the interlayer transmission of magnons in dynamic spin valve structures using the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect. Interaction between magnons and the interfacial dissipation are studied by comparing three samples with different spin valve structures. Magnons with different intrinsic frequencies have strong interactions. In contrast, magnons with similar intrinsic frequencies have relatively weak interactions. Interfacial dissipations of magnons are increased by rare earth insertion, which can reduce the interactions between magnons indirectly. This work extends the application of spin valve structures to magnonic devices beyond their conventional use

    Response of riparian vegetation to water-table changes in the lower reaches of Tarim River, Xinjiang Uygur, China

    The lower reaches of Tarim River in the Xinjiang Uygur region of western China had been dried out for more than 30 years before water began to be diverted from Konqi (Peacock) River via a 927-km-long channel in year 2000, aimed at improving the riparian ecological systems. Since then, eight intermittent water deliveries have been carried out. To evaluate the response of riparian vegetation to these operations, the groundwater regime and vegetation changes have been monitored along the 350-km-long stem of the river using a network of 40 dug wells at nine transects across the river and 30 vegetation plots at key sites. Results show that the water table rose remarkably, i.e. from a depth of 9.87m before the water delivery to 3.16m after the third water delivery. The lateral distance of affected water table extended to 1,050m from the riverbank after the fourth water delivery. The riparian vegetation has changed in composition, type, distribution, and growing behavior. This shows that the water deliveries have had significant effects on restoration of riparian ecosystems
