Time Delay Compensation and Stability Analysis of Networked Predictive Control Systems Based on Hammerstein Model
A novel approach is proposed for a networked control system with random delays containing a nonlinear process based on a Hammerstein model. The method uses a time delay two step generalized predictive control (TDTSGPC), which consists of two parts, one is to deal with the input nonlinearity of the Hammerstein model and the other is to compensate the network induced delays in the networked control system. Theoretical results using the Popov theorem are presented for the closed-loop stability of the system in the case of a constant delay. Simulation examples illustrating the validity of the approach are presented
Large probe arrays for measuring mean and time dependent local oil volume fraction and local oil velocity component distributions in inclined oil-in-water flows
Arrays of dual-sensor and four-sensor needle conductance probes have been used to measure the mean and time dependent local properties of upward inclined, bubbly oil-in-water flows (also known as dispersed oil-in-water flows) in a 153mm diameter pipe. The flow properties that were measured were (i) the local in-situ oil volume fraction ; (ii) the local oil velocity in the axial direction of the pipe (the direction); and (iii) the local oil velocity in the direction from the lower side of the inclined pipe to its upper side (the direction). Oil velocities in the direction (orthogonal to the and directions) were found to be negligible. For all of the flow conditions investigated it was found that the mean value of varied from a maximum value at the upper side of the inclined pipe to a minimum value at the lower side, and that the rate of decrease of this mean value of with distance in the direction became greater as the pipe inclination angle from the vertical was increased. It was also found that the mean value of was greatest at the upper side of the inclined pipe and decreased towards the lower side of the inclined pipe, the rate of decrease with distance in the direction again becoming greater as was increased. For , a water volumetric flow rate , an oil volumetric flow rate and using a sampling period over a total time interval of , it was found that at the upper side of the inclined pipe the standard deviation in was 31.6% of the mean value of . Furthermore for , , and it was found that the standard deviation in the cross-pipe oil velocity component was approximately equal to the standard deviation in the axial velocity component . These large temporal variations in the local flow properties have been attributed to the presence of large scale Kelvin-Helmholtz waves which intermittently appear in the flow. It is believed that the techniques outlined in this paper for measuring the standard deviation of local flow properties as a function of the sampling period will be of considerable value in validating mathematical models of time dependent oil-water flows. It should be noted that the principal focus of this paper is on the measurement techniques that were used and the methods of data analysis rather than the presentation of exhaustive experimental results at numerous different flow conditions
Magnetic reversal processes and critical thickness in FePt/{\alpha}-Fe/FePt trilayers
Magnetic reversal processes of a FePt/{\alpha}-Fe/FePt trilayer system with
in-plane easy axes have been investigated within a micromagnetic approach. It
is found that the magnetic reversal process consists of three steps: nucleation
of a prototype of domain wall in the soft phase, the evolution as well as the
motion of the domain wall from the soft to the hard phase and finally, the
magnetic reversal of the hard phase. For small soft layer thickness Ls, the
three steps are reduced to one single step, where the magnetizations in the two
phases reverse simultaneously and the hysteresis loops are square with
nucleation as the coercivity mechanism. As Ls increases, both nucleation and
pinning fields decrease. In the meantime, the single-step reversal expands to a
standard three-step one and the coercivity mechanism changes from nucleation to
pinning. The critical thickness where the coercivity mechanism alters, could be
derived analytically, which is found to be inversely proportional to the square
root of the crystalline anisotropy of the hard phase. Further increase of Ls
leads to the change of the coercivity mechanism from pinning to nucleation.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, pdf file, figures include
A new technology for preventing fouling and energy conservation
Paper presented to the 10th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Florida, 14-16 July 2014.Fouling in heat exchange equipment is a common problem unsolved in many industries, and is also an important bottleneck that restricts the production. Among the existing technologies of solving the problem of preventing fouling and heat-transfer enhancement, the fluidized bed preventing - fouling and heat-transfer enhancement technology is an effective method with broad application prospects, which can online prevent fouling and enhance heat transfer in heat exchange equipment such as evaporator, preheater, condenser, cooler, reboiler, industrial boiler, gravity heat pipe, and so on. In this paper, the principle and characteristics of this technology are briefly introduced, and some industrial application achievements of the technology are also presented.cf201
A universal Hamiltonian for the motion and the merging of Dirac cones in a two-dimensional crystal
We propose a simple Hamiltonian to describe the motion and the merging of
Dirac points in the electronic spectrum of two-dimensional electrons. This
merging is a topological transition which separates a semi-metallic phase with
two Dirac cones from an insulating phase with a gap. We calculate the density
of states and the specific heat. The spectrum in a magnetic field B is related
to the resolution of a Schrodinger equation in a double well potential. They
obey the general scaling law e_n \propto B^{2/3} f_n(Delta /B^{2/3}. They
evolve continuously from a sqrt{n B} to a linear (n+1/2)B dependence, with a
[(n+1/2)B]^{2/3} dependence at the transition. The spectrum in the vicinity of
the topological transition is very well described by a semiclassical
quantization rule. This model describes continuously the coupling between
valleys associated with the two Dirac points, when approaching the transition.
It is applied to the tight-binding model of graphene and its generalization
when one hopping parameter is varied. It remarkably reproduces the low field
part of the Rammal-Hofstadter spectrum for the honeycomb lattice.Comment: 18 pages, 15 figure
Evaluation of the possibility of using diatomite natural mineral as a composite agent in acrylic coating
WOS: 000427736200014In the present study the possibility of the commercially available acryl and diatomite earth (DE) mineral as a composite coating for corrosion protection of Mg alloys has been evaluated. The acrylic coating is used as a top coating in a wide field of applications like automotive, aerospace, medicine and electronics where it shows beneficial properties. Diatomite-dispersed acrylic paint was applied over the substrate by conventional spray technique with an air pressure of 3 kg cm(-2). Firstly the acryl was mixed with hardener and then the DE was added to the mixture. Four types of coating with 0, 2, 4, 8 g/L DE have been prepared. The results show that adding up to 4 g/L of the DE improved the corrosion resistance and produced a coating with acceptable surface roughness
dCTP pyrophosphohydrase exhibits nucleic accumulation in multiple carcinomas
Nucleoside triphosphate pyrophosphohydrolase (NTP-PPase) functions as one of the mechanisms to guarantee the fidelity of DNA replication through the cleavage of non-canonical nucleotides into di- or monophosphates. Human NTP-PPase is poorly understood and investigated. In the present study, by using tissue microassays with the paired cancer and adjacent regions, we found that with the prevalent expression of dCTP pyrophosphohydrase (DCTPP1) in the cytosol and nucleus in tumors investigated, DCTPP1 was inclined to accumulate in the nucleus of cancer cells compared to the paired adjacent tissue cells in multiple carcinoma including lung, breast, liver, cervical, gastric and esophagus cancer. More significantly, the higher DCTPP1 expression in the nucleus of lung, gastric and esophagus cancer cells was associated with histological subtypes. The nucleic accumulation of DCTPP1 was apparently observed as well when cancer cell line MCF-7 was treated with H2O2 in vitro. Considering the roles of DCTPP1 on restricting the concentration of non-canonical nucleotides in the nucleotide pool, accumulation of DCTPP1 in the nucleus of cancer cells might suffice for maintaining the proper DNA replication in order to fulfill the requirement for the survival and proliferation of tumor cells.<br /

Branch-and-lift algorithm for deterministic global optimization in nonlinear optimal control
This paper presents a branch-and-lift algorithm for solving optimal control problems with smooth nonlinear dynamics and potentially nonconvex objective and constraint functionals to guaranteed global optimality. This algorithm features a direct sequential method and builds upon a generic, spatial branch-and-bound algorithm. A new operation, called lifting, is introduced, which refines the control parameterization via a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process, while simultaneously eliminating control subregions that are either infeasible or that provably cannot contain any global optima. Conditions are given under which the image of the control parameterization error in the state space contracts exponentially as the parameterization order is increased, thereby making the lifting operation efficient. A computational technique based on ellipsoidal calculus is also developed that satisfies these conditions. The practical applicability of branch-and-lift is illustrated in a numerical example. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York
