Extroverts Tweet Differently from Introverts in Weibo

Being dominant factors driving the human actions, personalities can be excellent indicators in predicting the offline and online behavior of different individuals. However, because of the great expense and inevitable subjectivity in questionnaires and surveys, it is challenging for conventional studies to explore the connection between personality and behavior and gain insights in the context of large amount individuals. Considering the more and more important role of the online social media in daily communications, we argue that the footprint of massive individuals, like tweets in Weibo, can be the inspiring proxy to infer the personality and further understand its functions in shaping the online human behavior. In this study, a map from self-reports of personalities to online profiles of 293 active users in Weibo is established to train a competent machine learning model, which then successfully identifies over 7,000 users as extroverts or introverts. Systematical comparisons from perspectives of tempo-spatial patterns, online activities, emotion expressions and attitudes to virtual honor surprisingly disclose that the extrovert indeed behaves differently from the introvert in Weibo. Our findings provide solid evidence to justify the methodology of employing machine learning to objectively study personalities of massive individuals and shed lights on applications of probing personalities and corresponding behaviors solely through online profiles.Comment: Datasets of this study can be freely downloaded through: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.4765150.v

<br style="line-height: normal; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-size-adjust: auto;" /

Background The high-altitude-adapted frog Rana kukunoris, occurring on the Tibetan plateau, is an excellent model to study life history evolution and adaptation to harsh high-altitude environments. However, genomic resources for this species are still underdeveloped constraining attempts to investigate the underpinnings of adaptation. Results The R. kukunoris genome was assembled to a size of 4.83 Gb and the contig N50 was 1.80 Mb. The 6555 contigs were clustered and ordered into 12 pseudo-chromosomes covering similar to 93.07% of the assembled genome. In total, 32,304 genes were functionally annotated. Synteny analysis between the genomes of R. kukunoris and a low latitude species Rana temporaria showed a high degree of chromosome level synteny with one fusion event between chr11 and chr13 forming pseudo-chromosome 11 in R. kukunoris. Characterization of features of the R. kukunoris genome identified that 61.5% consisted of transposable elements and expansions of gene families related to cell nucleus structure and taste sense were identified. Ninety-five single-copy orthologous genes were identified as being under positive selection and had functions associated with the positive regulation of proteins in the catabolic process and negative regulation of developmental growth. These gene family expansions and positively selected genes indicate regions for further interrogation to understand adaptation to high altitude. Conclusions Here, we reported a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of a high-altitude amphibian species using a combination of Illumina, PacBio and Hi-C sequencing technologies. This genome assembly provides a valuable resource for subsequent research on R. kukunoris genomics and amphibian genome evolution in general.Peer reviewe

Highly crystalline mesoporous materials with oriented configurations are in demand for high-performance energy conversion devices. We report a simple evaporation-driven oriented assembly method to synthesize three-dimensional open mesoporous TiO2 microspheres with a diameter of ~800 nm, well-controlled radially oriented hexagonal mesochannels, and crystalline anatase walls. The mesoporous TiO2 spheres have a large accessible surface area (112 m2/g), a large pore volume (0.164 cm3/g), and highly single-crystal–like anatase walls with dominant (101) exposed facets, making them ideal for conducting mesoscopic photoanode films. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on the mesoporous TiO2 microspheres and commercial dye N719 have a photoelectric conversion efficiency of up to 12.1%. This evaporation-driven approach can create opportunities for tailoring the orientation of inorganic building blocks in the assembly of various mesoporous materials.State Key Basic Research Program of China (2013CB934104 and 2012CB224805), the National Science Foundation (21210004), the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (08DZ2270500), the Shanghai Leading Academic Discipline Project (B108), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (project no. 29-280), and Deanship of Scientific Research, King Saud University–The International Highly Cited Research Group Program (IHCRG#14-102). Energy supply reliability assessment of the integrated energy system considering complementary and optimal operation during failure

    No full text
Integrated energy system (IES) is an effective solution for energy and environment problems. In view of the difficulty of traditional reliability assessment methods to reasonably and effectively assess the reliability of the IES, an energy supply reliability assessment method based on sequential Monte Carlo simulation is proposed in this study. The optimal operation of the system is realised by mobilising the multi-energy complementary characteristics during device failure. The reliability of the system under three different operation objectives is compared and analysed. Three new reliability indices are proposed, which take into account the supply of multiple energy loads and the differences among different energy. Finally, through the analysis of energy supply reliability under different objectives, the reasonability of the proposed indices and the flexible scheduling of energy flow under different objectives are verified; therefore, the IES can realise adaptive and targeted operation strategy during device failure. Also, the influence of different device faults on the system's energy supply reliability is ranked, which is of great significance to find the weak parts of the system and provide a reference for the system to improve energy supply reliability

Traditional printed products have to some extent affected the development of smart structures and their application in multiple fields, especially in harsh environments, due to their complex mechanisms and control principles. The 4D printing technology based on magnetically controlled smart materials exploits the advantages of magnetically controlled smart materials with good operability and security, and its printed smart structures can be obtained under magnetic field drive for unfettered remote manipulation and wireless motion control, which expands the application of printed products in complex environments, such as sealed and narrow, and has broad development prospects. At present, magnetically controlled smart material 4D printing technology is still in its infancy, and its theory and application need further in–depth study. To this end, this paper introduces the current status of research on magnetically controlled smart material 4D printing, discusses the printing process, and provides an outlook on its application prospects

Multiphase Trajectory Generation for Planar Biped Robot Using Direct Collocation Method

    No full text
Stability and energy efficiency are the main focuses in the bipedal robot field. In this paper, we apply a multiphase gait, which is different from the widely used two-phase gait, to improve the stability at the moment, when a biped robot transfers from the double support phase to the single support phase. Then, we create dynamic equations with contact forces in each phase using Lagrangian formulation. Furthermore, the direct collocation method is utilized to generate the optimal trajectory toward both stability and energy efficiency. Finally, the comparison between multiphase gait and two-phase gait is performed with numerical simulations. The results prove that multiphase gait increases the stability margin in the cost of slightly decreasing energy efficiency. Besides, both gaits show a similar human-like characteristic in hip height variation during walking
