Symmetry restoration and quantumness reestablishment
A realistic quantum many-body system, characterized by a generic microscopic
Hamiltonian, is accessible only through approximation methods. The mean field
theories, as the simplest practices of approximation methods, commonly serve as
a powerful tool, but unfortunately often violate the symmetry of the
Hamiltonian. The conventional BCS theory, as an excellent mean field approach,
violates the particle number conservation and completely erases quantumness
characterized by concurrence and quantum discord between different modes. We
restore the symmetry by using the projected BCS theory and the exact numerical
solution and find that the lost quantumness is synchronously reestablished. We
show that while entanglement remains unchanged with the particle numbers,
quantum discord behaves as an extensive quantity with respect to the system
size. Surprisingly, discord is hardly dependent on the interaction strengths.
The new feature of discord offers promising applications in modern quantum
technologies.Comment: 17 pages and 3 figure

Surface Immobilization of Redox-Labile Fluorescent Probes: Enabling Single-Cell Co-Profiling of Aerobic Glycolysis and Oncogenic Protein Signaling Activities.
An analytical method is described for profiling lactate production in single cells via the use of coupled enzyme reactions on surface-grafted resazurin molecules. The immobilization of the redox-labile probes was achieved through chemical modifications on resazurin, followed by bio-orthogonal click reactions. The lactate detection was demonstrated to be sensitive and specific. The method was incorporated into a single-cell barcode chip for simultaneous quantification of aerobic glycolysis activities and oncogenic signaling phosphoproteins in cancer. The interplay between glycolysis and oncogenic signaling activities was interrogated on a glioblastoma cell line. Results revealed a drug-induced oncogenic signaling reliance accompanying shifted metabolic paradigms. A drug combination that exploits this induced reliance exhibited synergistic effects in growth inhibition
Phylogenetic and molecular characterization of coxsackievirus A24 variant isolates from a 2010 acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis outbreak in Guangdong, China

Abstract

Background

Acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis is a common disease in China. As a notifiable disease, cases are registered by ophthalmologists on the AHC surveillance system. An AHC outbreak caused by CA24v was observed in Guangdong Province in 2007 by the National Disease Supervision Information Management System. Three years later, a larger outbreak occurred in Guangdong during the August-October period (2010). To characterize the outbreak and compare the genetic diversity of CA24v, which was determined to be the cause of the outbreak, the epidemiology and the molecular characterization of CA24v were analyzed in this study.

Results

A total of 69,635 cases were reported in the outbreak. 73.5% of index cases originated from students, children in kindergarten and factory workers, with the ≦ 9 age group at the highest risk. The male to female ratio was 1.84:1 among 0-19 years. 56 conjunctival swabs were collected to identify the causative agent from five cities with the AHC outbreak. 30 virus strains were isolated, and two of the genomes had the highest identity values (95.8%) with CA24v genomes. Four CA24v genotypes were identified by phylogenetic analysis for the VP1 and 3C regions. CA24v which caused the outbreak belonged to genotype IV. Furthermore, full nucleotide sequences for four representative isolates in 2010 and 2007 were determined and compared. 20 aa mutations, two nt insertions and one nt deletion were observed in the open reading frame, with 5'- and 3'- UTR respectively between them.

Conclusions

CA24v was determined to be the pathogen causing the outbreak and belongs to genotype IV. VP1 is more informative than 3CPro for describing molecular epidemiology and we hypothesize that accumulative mutations may have promoted the outbreak.</p
Effects of tumor metabolic microenvironment on regulatory T cells
Recent studies have shown that on one hand, tumors need to obtain a sufficient energy supply, and on the other hand they must evade the body’s immune surveillance. Because of their metabolic reprogramming characteristics, tumors can modify the physicochemical properties of the microenvironment, which in turn affects the biological characteristics of the cells infiltrating them. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are a subset of T cells that regulate immune responses in the body. They exist in large quantities in the tumor microenvironment and exert immunosuppressive effects. The main effect of tumor microenvironment on Tregs is to promote their differentiation, proliferation, secretion of immunosuppressive factors, and chemotactic recruitment to play a role in immunosuppression in tumor tissues. This review focuses on cell metabolism reprogramming and the most significant features of the tumor microenvironment relative to the functional effects on Tregs, highlighting our understanding of the mechanisms of tumor immune evasion and providing new directions for tumor immunotherapy
Properties and Asteroseismological analysis of a new ZZ ceti discovered by TMTS
Tsinghua university-Ma Huateng Telescope for Survey (TMTS) aims to discover
rapidly evolving transients by monitoring the northern sky. The TMTS catalog is
cross-matched with the white dwarf (WD) catalog of Gaia EDR3, and light curves
of more than a thousand WD candidates are obtained so far. Among them, the WD
TMTS J23450729+5813146 (hereafter J2345) is one interesting common source.
Based on the light curves from the TMTS and follow-up photometric observations,
periods of 967.113 s, 973.734 s, 881.525 s, 843.458 s, 806.916 s and 678.273 s
are identified. In addition, the TESS observations suggest a 3.39 h period but
this can be attributed to the rotation of a comoving M dwarf located within 3".
The spectroscopic observation indicates that this WD is DA type with Teff =
11778+/-617K,log g = 8.38+/-0.31,mass=0.84+/-0.20Msun and age=0.704+/-0.377
Gyrs. Asteroseismological analysis reveals a global best-fit solution of Teff
=12110+/-10K and mass=0.760+/-0.005Msun,consistent with the spectral fitting
results, and Oxygen and Carbon abundances in the core center are 0.73 and 0.27,
respectively. The distance derived from the intrinsic luminosity given by
asteroseismology is 93 parsec, which is in agreement with the distance of 98
parsec from Gaia DR3. Additionally, kinematic study shows that this WD is
likely a thick disk star. The mass of its zero-age main-sequence mass is
estimated to be 3.08 Msun and has a main-sequence plus cooling age of roughly
900 Myrs.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
Variable white dwarfs in TMTS: Asteroseismological analysis of a ZZ Ceti star, TMTS J17184064+2524314
The Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescope for Survey (TMTS) has been
constantly monitoring the northern sky since 2020 in search of rapidly variable
stars. To find variable white dwarfs (WDs), the TMTS catalog is cross-matched
with the WD catalog of Gaia EDR3, resulting in over 3000 light curves of WD
candidates. The WD TMTS J17184064+2524314 (hereafter J1718) is the second
ZZ~Ceti star discovered among these common sources. Based on the light curves
from TMTS, follow-up photometric observations, and TESS, 10 periods and 3
combination periods are detected. A rotation period of hr is
derived, according to the identified rotational splitting. Our spectroscopic
observation indicates that this WD belongs to DA type with K, log , M, and
age= Gyr. Based on core-parameterized asteroseismological model
grids ( 14 million), we derive a best-fit solution of K, log , and M
for J1718, consistent with the spectral fitting results. For this WD, the
corresponding carbon and oxygen abundances in the core are 0.43 and 0.57,
respectively. The distance derived from the intrinsic luminosity given by
asteroseismology is pc, in accord with the distance of
pc from Gaia DR3 within the uncertainties.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRAS. arXiv admin
