    Russian subject-level index of multidimensional deprivation and its association with all-cause and infant mortality

    Background Social and environmental inequalities in public health are recognized as global problems of our time. From the point of view of the theory of deprivation, social and environmental determinants identified as deprivation indicators, which help to detect health inequality. Indices are one of the most practical and powerful tools for measuring the level of deprivation. Aim The aims of our study are (1) to develop a Russian derivation index and (2) to analyze its associations with total and infant mortality. Material and Methods Deprivation indicators were obtained from the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia. All mortality data were taken from the official website of the Federal Research Institute for Health Organization and Informatics of Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation from 2009 to 2012. Principal components analysis with varimax rotation was used to (1) select suitable deprivation indicators and (2) create the index. A Spearman's correlation was run to determine the relationship of deprivation with all-cause and infant mortality. OLS regression was used to assess the relationship between deprivation and infant mortality. Results There is not a statistically significant correlation between deprivation and all-cause mortality. OLS regression showed a significant relationship between deprivation and infant mortality (p = 0.02). For every one-unit increase in the index score, infant mortality rate increases by about 7.4%.   Discussion Our study showed that generally the most deprived regions were industrial with poor ecological conditions such as Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Omsk Oblasts, and Sakha and located in Ural and the Western Siberia. &nbsp

    Copper Inhibits the Water and Glycerol Permeability of Aquaporin-3

    Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) is an aquaglyceroporin expressed in erythrocytes and several other tissues. Erythrocytes are, together with kidney and liver, the main targets for copper toxicity. Here we report that both water and glycerol permeability of human AQP3 is inhibited by copper. Inhibition is fast, dose-dependent, and reversible. If copper is dissolved in carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffer, the natural buffer system in our body, doses in the range of those observed in Wilson disease and in copper poisoning caused significant inhibition. AQP7, another aquaglyceroporin, was insensitive to copper. Three extracellular amino acid residues, Trp128, Ser152, and His241, were identified as responsible for the effect of copper on AQP3. We have previously shown that Ser152 is involved in regulation of AQP3 by pH. The fact that Ser152 mediates regulation of AQP3 by copper may explain the phenomenon of exquisite sensitivity of human erythrocytes to copper at acidic pH. When AQP3 was co-expressed with another AQP, only glycerol but not water permeability was inhibited by copper. Our results provide a better understanding of processes that occur in severe copper metabolism defects such as Wilson disease and in copper poisoning

    Communicative Media Competence of Acting and Opera Teachers During Online Training of Future Opera Singers in Ukraine and the USA

    The relevance of research on the given topic is that the competence of a teacher largely depends on their communication skills, as well as on the ability to adapt to working in the media space, which is required by modern education. This is especially relevant for the teachers of the art subjects, in particular the skills of an actor and opera singing, because remote training of specialists in these disciplines requires a high level of teachers' competence. The purpose of the submitted article is to study the media competence of teachers of acting skills and opera class during online training of future opera singers, to develop reliable diagnostic methods of communicative media competence and to compare the obtained indicators of teachers of educational institutions in Ukraine and the USA. The basis of the methodology is a combination of theoretical approaches with empirical observations and thematic survey, which allows to reliably investigate the level of communicative media competence of teachers of art disciplines. A comparative analysis of indicators of communicative media competence of acting and opera teachers of higher educational institutions of Ukraine and the USA demonstrated a certain advantage of teachers of American universities in the ability to work in social networks and organize online events, in psychological readiness to work in front of the camera, in tolerance for users of networks; at the same time, the indicators of situational adaptability, organizational skills and mastering of the means of social behaviour of effective communication are practically not different between teachers of Ukraine and the USA. The results of the research allow drawing conclusions about the expediency and necessity of improving the communicative media competence of teachers in Ukrainian universities, because remote teaching of stage disciplines, although it requires additional skills and abilities, can be not only effective, but also has certain advantages

    Soliton eigenvalue control with optical lattices

    We address the dynamics of higher-order solitons in optical lattices, and predict their self-splitting into the set of their single-soliton constituents. The splitting is induced by the potential introduced by the lattice, together with the imprinting of a phase tilt onto the initial multisoliton states. The phenomenon allows the controllable generation of several coherent solitons linked via their Zakharov-Shabat eigenvalues. Application of the scheme to the generation of correlated matter waves in Bose-Einstein condensates is discussed.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Physical Review Letter

    Formation of schoolchildren's creative activity on the final stage of solving a mathematical problem

    © 2017 Authors. The aim of the research is to study the possibilities of the final stage of working with a mathematical problem as a means of forming schoolchildren's creative activity. The leading method of investigating this problem is to establish the correspondence between the components of the final stage of working with the mathematical problem and the procedural features of the student's creative activity. The study resulted in defining the structure of the final stage of working with a mathematical problem, which made it possible to identify a certain set of activities that make up the ability to work with the problem on the final stage of its solution. The article establishes the relationship between actions appropriate to this stage of work with the task and signs of the student's creative activity. It is proved that in the process of working with the problem on the final stage of its solution, students develop procedural features of creative activity. The author's method of forming students' creative activity suggested in the article can be used by the teachers of mathematics in school practice, by the authors of methodological manuals for students and teachers, and also can be used as the basis for a special course for students of pedagogical universities
