PUSPATI TRIGA Reactor is the only research reactor in Malaysia started its operation in 1982. It has conducted many research and analysis in nuclear and medical science. One of them is neutron flux measurement analysis by using Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA). The sample used is Au-197. The samples are prepared in the form of bare Aurum (Au) and Aurum covered with Cadmium (Cd). Irradiation of samples takes place at Pneumatic Transfer System (PTS) of PUSPATI TRIGA Reactor. After irradiation process, the counting of sample which is the decay is measured by using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma detector. The efficiency of detector will determine the precision of the neutron flux. When the distance of detector is increased the Aurum efficiency is decreased exponentially. Neutron Activation Analysis is the method used in nuclear field to determine the concentration of element in a wide amount of materials. The neutrons will bombard the elements or samples caused activity of radioactive samples can be determined. The formula of neutron flux is used to determine the thermal flux conducted in PTS. The experimental result give out the thermal neutron flux at PTS is 5.75 x 1011 ncm-2 s-1 . It is quite accurate to calculated result which is at 6.0 x 1011 nem-25-1

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to discover possible relationships between self-regulated learning with graduate students’ academic performance. Eighty graduate students from the Learning Sciences Programme and Human Resources Programme at Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development were randomly selected.  Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich, 1991) was piloted and administered. First, the questionnaire was undergone the back-to-back translation (into Malay language version).  Two variables that involved in this study were motivation and learning strategies. Academic performance measured to be dependent variable which is the graduate students’ current CGPA.   Findings show that there is no relation between motivation and learning strategies with academic performance. Future recommendations are also discussed in this study

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine the validity and reliability of the questionnaire which serve as a research instrument. The validity of the instrument can be viewed by using the content validity that is conducted during pre-test which involves evaluation by experts in the subject area of study While, the reliability of the instrument can be seen through pilot study. Pilot study involved with a small scale of respondents where it is used to determine whether the instrument are reliable, whether the respondent has a clear understanding on questions in the questionnaire and it is conducted prior to real study.A total of 50 sets of questionnaire had been distributed to investigators from Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) in Jalan Duta branch. Out of these, only 21 completed questionnaires were returned. The data then was keyed in and analysed using SPSS software version 21. The results from reliability analysis revealed that Cronbach’s alpha value for all variables (attitudes towards achieving goals, experience, ethical ideologies, managerial control and tax auditors’ conciliatory style) are more than cut-off point that is 0.70. This can be concluded that the instrument is reliable and none of the items have to be deleted

Place Attachment and Place Identity: Undergraduate Students’ Place Bonding on Campus

    Get PDF
AbstractUniversity is considered as a bridge between home and society for the undergraduate students. Campus life is a unique place experience which is very important on their journey to adulthood. Although numerous studies explored the students performance on campus, little discussion has addressed the undergraduate students’ place bonding on campus from the perspectives of place attachment and place identity. To fill such a gap, this paper explores the influence and intensity of campus environment on the development of place attachment and place identity in undergraduate students at University Sains Malaysia (USM). The main instrument involved in this study is questionnaire that is proposed with five scales: demographic information, physical environment, social environment, cultural and academic environment, and place attachment and place identity. The results of this study showed a current and holistic student-place relationship to campus. Generally, it illustrated that the students in USM showed relatively strong attachment and identity to the campus, while the extent of place identity was comparatively weaker than place attachment. Specifically, first, students in different study level showed different extent of place attachment and place identity to campus. Both students’ extent of place attachment and place identity followed the same order (from high to low): juniors, seniors, sophomores, and freshmen. Second, national students showed higher attachment and identity to campus than international students. Third, through bivariate correlations analysis, the results also showed some most influential variables to affect students’ place attachment and place identity

    Get PDF
Purpose- The main purpose of the paper is to understand and report the nature of management control systems (MCS) that is designed and used by the business organizations in the traditional clannish society of Somalia. Design/methodology/approach- A qualitative case study of a telecommunication company was adopted to gather both primary and secondary data. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with the executive directors of the main divisions. To triangulate the data sources, observations and document analysis were also used. Findings- The findings of the study reveal that the MCS of the case organization is extremely affected by the traditional norms of the Somali clannish environment.Although, the company practices some formal MCS techniques; i.e. budgeting and performance evaluation, compensation management and financial reporting, however, the role of the traditional clanism is visible in all aspects of the company’s daily operations. Hence, the main patterns of MCS include: clannish ownership, selective staffing and investors, collective responsibility of the clan/sub-clan members, personal trust and friendship, horizontal relationships and verbal communication. These control patterns have rendered the formal MCS techniques to become less relevant. Originality/value- The paper adds to the literature of MCS in the traditional societies especially in the African social context. Furthermore, the paper offers an insight to the academicians and practitioners about the business practices in the African traditional environments. Finally, the results of the study call for further researches, particularly in the traditional social settings that are mostly found in the less developed countries

    Get PDF
The major factor contributing to students’ failure in financial accounting in secondary schools is the teaching methods used by the accounting teachers. In this paper we study the effectiveness of cooperative learning approach on students’ academic achievement.Cooperative learning is the learning style whereby students are arranged in small groups and the group members are linked together in such a way that they cannot succeed unless every member in the group succeed. They assist and encourage the effort of each other to ensure that all the group members master the learning material in order to achieve their personal and group objectives.Cooperative learning approach is not only improving students’ academic achievement but it also enhances positive attitudes towards learning, develops social skills, improves interpersonal relationships, and prepare students for collaborative work. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to adopt social interdependence theory, cognitive development theory and motivational theory to examine the effects of cooperative learning on secondary students’ achievement in financial accounting using pre-test post-test control group design
