Gaia view of low-mass star formation
Understanding how young stars and their circumstellar disks form and evolve
is key to explain how planets form. The evolution of the star and the disk is
regulated by different processes, both internal to the system or related to
their environment. The former include accretion of material onto the central
star, wind emission, and photoevaporation of the disk due to high-energy
radiation from the central star. These are best studied spectroscopically, and
the distance to the star is a key parameter in all these studies. Here we
present new estimates of the distance to a complex of nearby star-forming
clouds obtained combining TGAS distances with measurement of extinction on the
line of sight. Furthermore, we show how we plan to study the effects of the
environment on the evolution of disks with Gaia, using a kinematic modelling
code we have developed to model young star-forming regions.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. To appear in the Proceedings of IAU Symposium 330:

Personality Variable of Self-Esteem and EFL Reading Comprehension
The contribution of psychology to the process of learning, in general, and language learning, in particular, is so pervasive that there is hardly an aspect of language learning/teaching which could not be related to psychology. Among the psychological variables involved in language pedagogy, personality factors can have great significance. The aim of the present study is to determine if there is any association between the crucial personality factor of selfesteem (self-concept) (along with the sex variable) and the reading comprehension achievement of English major university students. The instruments used were Beck Self- Concept Scale (1967), the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language, 1992), and the Nelson Standard Reading Test (1977). The findings of the analysis of two-way ANOVA revealed that the independent variables of self-esteem and sex have a significant effect on students\u27 performance in EFL reading comprehension although their interaction (selfesteem/ sex) was not significant
Event Structure of Prepositional Nuclear Junctures in Persian: a Role & Reference Grammar Account
In the present research study an attempt has been made to analyze one group of complex predicates or nuclear junctures (NJs) in Persian (as an Indo-European language) in terms of its event attribute within the framework of Role and Reference Grammar (Van Valin & Lapolla 1997, Van Valin 2005). These complex predicates fuse with the prepositional phrases and the impoverished forms of the verb referred to as âlight verbâ (Cattell 1984). In this study a distinction is made between predicative and non-predicative prepositions providing some examples along with schematizing their layered structure of the clause. To determine the verb class of the prepositional (P) light verb constructions (LVCs) the main five diagnostic tests are applied to a wide range of examples from our collected Persian data. It has emerged from the findings of this study that all the prepositional phrases in Persian prepositional nuclear junctures are of locative type and the light verbs in these constructions belong to the phase class of verbs i.e. the continuative, terminative, and resultative event phases
Nothing but the Son of a Black Woman : Anti-Blackness, Gender Dynamics, and Muslim Communities of Memphis
The Nation of Islam (NOI) is largely responsible for the growth of Islam in America during the 20th century. However, they are often isolated from their Muslim counterparts, being framed as an âinauthenticâ Islamic school of thought by Sunni Muslim communities. This is due in part to the different practices of Islam, but also a result of American systemic anti-Blackness. Furthermore, Black Muslim women face numerous problems in the NOI , as the internal gender dynamics are based on white nuclear family systems that lead to further gendered ostracization within these same communities. This is exemplified in Memphis, Tennessee, where the Sunni mosques are primarily ethnically integrated (unlike other major cities), but are still separated both geographically and socially from the NOI mosque in the city. Through the use of interviews and spatial analysis, this paper will highlight the disconnect between Black Muslims of the NOI and non-Black Arab Muslims of other Sunni schools of thought with respect to the history of anti-Blackness in these Arab Muslim communities, as well as anti-Blackness in America. As a case study into Muhammadâs Mosque 55 in Memphis, Tennessee, the project explores Black Muslim interactions with other non-Black Sunni Muslims, while also looking into the ways Black women of the NOI understand themselves in the context of feminism and womens empowerment, more broadly
Role of Personality Characteristics and Family Communication Patterns in Predicting Couple Burnout among Employee in Iranian Oil Terminals Co
Couple burnout is a painfully physical, emotional and psychological exhaustion, consequences such as marital dissatisfaction and ultimately leads to divorce. The present study aimed to investigate of the Studying Personality Characteristics and the Role of Family Communication Patterns in Predicting Couple Burnout in Employees of Iranian Oil Terminals Company. For this purpose, in a descriptive study, correlational type, 200 employees were selected among married employees of Iranian oil Terminals Company. They were selected in a form of simple sampling randomly. They were tested with personality questionnaire, )NEO , Costa & McCrae), Family communications patterns questionnaire (Christensen & Sullaway) and couples burnout (Pines). For data analysis correlation coefficient and multiple regression were used. The result indicated that the except openness factor, other personality Characteristics had significant relation with couple burnout and this relation for Neuroticism was positive significant and for extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness. Were negative significant relation. The result also indicated that relationship between all Component communication patterns and couple burnout had significant relation and this relationship for mutual constructive communication was negative significant and for other three subscales were positive significant. The result also indicated mutual constructive communication pattern and, man Expectance / woman avoidance, woman Expectance / man avoidance predicted couple burnout. Neuroticism was the only attribute of the personality Characteristics that able to predicted couple burnout
Ecosystem Services Analysis in Response to Biodiversity Loss Caused by the Built Environment
The aim of this paper is to establish a broad overview of the impact urban areas have on biodiversity and to determine the predicted major impacts that biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation have and will have on the built environment. Common built environment responses to these impacts will also be examined. Regenerative design that uses the ecosystem services analysis method is proposed as a way of responding to biodiversity loss while simultaneously addressing climate change mitigation and adaption in a built environment context. This is examined for potential benefits and disadvantages
Adjectival Nuclear Junctures in Persian: A Role & Reference Grammar Analysis
The issue of predication is the central theme of all linguistic theories i.e. all the languages of the world have predicating elements through which communication and related propositions form. What these languages differ in is the way different elements or classes of words are used to predicate a sentence or a clause. Verbs are the most frequent and widely known predicating elements and as a matter of fact, and as Napoli (1989) maintains, developments in modern linguistics have recently allowed questions regarding the deeper levels of the nature of predication. Issues such as the status of multiple and complex predicates (CP) or nuclear junctures (NJ) in a single clause are of much interest in linguistic theories dealing with predication since in these constructions nouns, adverbs, or adjectives can also play a predicating role in combination with the verbal elements which are sometimes referred to as âlight verbsâ
Changes in Climate Driving Changes in Architectural Education
oai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/1Sustainability issues, in particular climate change, have become significant drivers of change in architectural education. It is posited that engaging in the reduction and offsetting of greenhouse gas emissions in academic institutions, particularly those responsible for the education of new generations of built environment professionals, could become an important part of creating built environments that can more effectively contribute to mitigating the causes of climate change
