Constraint-based sequence mining using constraint programming

The goal of constraint-based sequence mining is to find sequences of symbols that are included in a large number of input sequences and that satisfy some constraints specified by the user. Many constraints have been proposed in the literature, but a general framework is still missing. We investigate the use of constraint programming as general framework for this task. We first identify four categories of constraints that are applicable to sequence mining. We then propose two constraint programming formulations. The first formulation introduces a new global constraint called exists-embedding. This formulation is the most efficient but does not support one type of constraint. To support such constraints, we develop a second formulation that is more general but incurs more overhead. Both formulations can use the projected database technique used in specialised algorithms. Experiments demonstrate the flexibility towards constraint-based settings and compare the approach to existing methods.Comment: In Integration of AI and OR Techniques in Constraint Programming (CPAIOR), 201

Transition Properties of Low Lying States in Atomic Indium

We present here the results of our relativistic many-body calculations of various properties of the first six low-lying excited states of indium. The calculations were performed using the relativistic coupled-cluster method in the framework of the singles, doubles and partial triples approximation. We obtain a large lifetime ~10s for the [4p^6]5s^2 5p_{3/2} state, which had not been known earlier. Our precise results could be used to shed light on the reliability of the lifetime measurements of the excited states of atomic indium that we have considered in the present work.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure and 3 table

Comparison of Iris Recognition between Active Contour and Hough Transform

    Get PDF
Research in iris recognition has been explosive in recent years. There are a few fundamental issues in iris recognition such as iris acquisition, iris segmentation, texture analysis and matching analysis that has been brought up. In this paper, we focus on a fundamental issue in iris segmentation which is segmentation accuracy. The accuracy of iris segmentation can be negatively affected because of poor segmentation of iris boundary. Iris boundary might have unsmooth, poor and unclear edges. Because of that, a method that can segment this type of boundary needs to be developed. A method based on active contour is proposed not only to increase the segmentation accuracy, but also to increase the recognition accuracy. The proposed method is compared with the modified Hough Transform method to observe the performance of both methods. Iris images from CASIA v4 are used for our experiment. According to results, the proposed method is better than the modified Hough Transform method in terms of segmentation accuracy, recognition accuracy and implementation time. This shows that the proposed method is more accurate than the Hough Transform method

When is giving an impulse? An ERP investigation of intuitive prosocial behavior

    Get PDF
Human prosociality is often assumed to emerge from exerting reflective control over initial, selfish impulses. However, recent findings suggest that prosocial actions can also stem from processes that are fast, automatic and intuitive. Here, we attempt to clarify when prosocial behavior may be intuitive by examining prosociality as a form of reward seeking. Using event-related potentials (ERPs), we explored whether a neural signature that rapidly encodes the motivational salience of an event\u2014the P300\u2014can predict intuitive prosocial motivation. Participants allocated varying amounts of money between themselves and charities they initially labelled as high- or low-empathy targets under conditions that promoted intuitive or reflective decision making. Consistent with our predictions, P300 amplitude over centroparietal regions was greater when giving involved high-empathy targets than low-empathy targets, but only when deciding under intuitive conditions. Reflective conditions, alternatively, elicited an earlier frontocentral positivity related to response inhibition, regardless of target. Our findings suggest that during prosocial decision making, larger P300 amplitude could (i) signal intuitive prosocial motivation and (ii) predict subsequent engagement in prosocial behavior. This work offers novel insight into when prosociality may be driven by intuitive processes and the roots of such behaviors

The effect of quantized ETF, grouping, and power allocation on non-orthogonal multiple accesses for wireless communication networks

Nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a significant technology in radio resource sharing and it has been recognized as a favorable method in fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks to meet the requirements of system capacity, service latency, and user connectivity. Many schemes for NOMA have been proposed in the last few years. such as transmitter linear spreading-based NOMA as a code domain, as well as a linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE), parallel interference cancellation (PIC), and serial interference cancellation (SIC) with power allocation and grouping as a power domain at the receiver side for uplink NOMA. This work aims to evaluate the performance of multiple types of linear spreading-based NOMA schemes. Simulations are achieved for the error-rate performance evaluation of these NOMA schemes, received signal after detection, and received signal and effect of every user on the other. Evaluating the performance of these technologies with comparison is also achieved through using grouping and power allocation. Simulations are achieved for the sum rate and spectral efficiency. For the future, 5G NOMA development, an equiangular tight frame (ETF) is suggested for improving performance and suggests grouping with 64qam-quantized Grassmannian for improving performance favorite about grouping with Generalized welch-bound equality (GWBE

Modified Dijkstra Shortest Path Algorithm for SD Networks

    Get PDF
This paper uses a modified Dijkstra shortest path method for considering cumulative delays rather than bandwidth in software-defined networks. To implement the proposed method, an open-source Ryu controller is used, and a Mininet tool is used to emulate the topology. The proposed method is compared with the traditional Dijkstra’s algorithm to demonstrate its performance. This comparison shows that the modified Dijkstra’s algorithm provides higher performance of the different cumulative delays. Several experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method using three parameters (bandwidth, transfer rate and jitter). In addition, the cumulative distribution function is calculated using the parameters to show its distribution through the experiment period

Effect of subchronic intake of green tea extract on liver of albino rat histomorphometric, ultrastructural and biochemical study

    Get PDF
Background: There are conflicting reports on the effect of green tea extract (GTE) on the liver of animals. Some studies failed to show any adverse hepatic effects following administration of GTE to mice, rats, and dogs. Others reported severe hepatic necrosis, resulting in death in female Swiss-Webster mice following its administration. The aim of the study was to examine the subchronic toxicity of GTE on the liver of the adult male albino rats. Materials and methods: Forty male adult Wistar albino rats were used in the study. The rats were divided into four groups; group I (control), group II (low-dose green tea), group III (medium-dose green tea) and group IV (high-dose green tea). Histological, biochemical and histomorphometric analyses were done. Results: Mild hepatic affections were observed in group II. The affections were severe in groups III and IV. The central veins and hepatic sinusoids were congested. The hepatocytes were degenerated. Hypertrophy of the hepatic arteries, dilation of the bile ducts and cellular infiltration were clearly observed in the last two groups. Mild degenerative changes were observed in the hepatocytes in rat’s group II; the cytoplasm was rarefied and vacuolated. Some mitochondria were ruptured. The blood sinusoids were congested. The rough endoplasmic retinaculum was fragmented in group III. More degenerative changes were observed in group IV; the hepatic architectures were lost with disruption of cell membranes. Most of the cell organelles were degenerated and most of mitochondria were ballooned. As compared to that of the control groups: the total serum protein values in groups II, III and IV showed a statistically significant decrease (12%, 20% and 21%, respectively), the mean area per cent of collagen fibres in groups III and IV increased 5 and 7 folds. Conclusions: Subchronic administration of GTE resulted in structural and functional affection of the rats’ liver. The dose of 250 mg/kg/day seemed to be safe, while the doses of 500 mg/kg/day and 1000 mg/kg/day had deleterious effect being more evident in the latter dose
