A Discrete Version of the Inverse Scattering Problem and the J-matrix Method
The problem of the Hamiltonian matrix in the oscillator and Laguerre basis
construction from the S-matrix is treated in the context of the algebraic
analogue of the Marchenko method.Comment: 11 pages. The Laguerre basis case is adde
Anatomy of point-contact Andreev reflection spectroscopy from the experimental point of view (review)
We review application of point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy to
study elemental superconductors, where theoretical conditions for the smallness
of the point-contact size with respect to the characteristic lengths in the
superconductor can be satisfied. We discuss existing theoretical models and
identify new issues that have to be solved, especially when applying this
method to investigate more complex superconductors. We will also demonstrate
that some aspects of point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy still need
to be addressed even when investigating ordinary metals.Comment: 20 pages, 18 figs. V2: Ref.60 and footnote 3 are added, a number of

Multiple Andreev Reflections in Weak Links of Superfluid 3He-B
We calculate the current-pressure characteristics of a ballistic pinhole
aperture between two volumes of B-phase superfluid 3He. The most important
mechanism contributing to dissipative currents in weak links of this type is
the process of multiple Andreev reflections. At low biases this process is
significantly affected by relaxation due to inelastic
quasiparticle-quasiparticle collisions. In the numerical calculations,
suppression of the superfluid order parameter at surfaces is taken into account
self-consistently. When this effect is neglected, the theory may be developed
analytically like in the case of s-wave superconductors. A comparison with
experimental results is presented.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, RevTeX
ac Josephson effect in asymmetric superconducting quantum point contacts
We investigate ac Josephson effects between two superconductors connected by
a single-mode quantum point contact, where the gap amplitudes in the two
superconductors are unequal. In these systems, it was found in previous studies
on the dc effects that, besides the Andreev bound-states, the continuum states
can also contribute to the current. Using the quasiclassical formulation, we
calculate the current-voltage characteristics for general transmission of
the point contact. To emphasize bound versus continuum states, we examine in
detail the low bias, ballistic (D=1) limit. It is shown that in this limit the
current-voltage characteristics can be determined from the current-phase
relation, if we pay particular attention to the different behaviors of these
states under the bias voltage. For unequal gap configurations, the continuum
states give rise to non-zero sine components. We also demonstrate that in this
limit the temperature dependence of the dc component follows
, where is the smaller gap, with the
contribution coming entirely from the bound state.Comment: To appear in PR
Proximity Effect Enhancement Induced by Roughness of SN Interface
Critical temperature reduction is considered for a thin film of
a layered superconductor (S) with a rough surface covered by a thick layer of a
normal metal (N). The roughness of the SN interface increases the penetration
of electrons from the normal metal into the superconductor and leads to an
enhancement of the proximity effect. The value of induced by the
roughness of the SN interface can be much higher than for a film
with a plain surface for an extremely anisotropic layered superconductor with
the coherence lengths .Comment: 2 page
Experimental evidence of ageing and slow restoration of the weak-contact configuration in tilted 3D granular packings
Granular packings slowly driven towards their instability threshold are
studied using a digital imaging technique as well as a nonlinear acoustic
method. The former method allows us to study grain rearrangements on the
surface during the tilting and the latter enables to selectively probe the
modifications of the weak-contact fraction in the material bulk. Gradual ageing
of both the surface activity and the weak-contact reconfigurations is observed
as a result of repeated tilt cycles up to a given angle smaller than the angle
of avalanche. For an aged configuration reached after several consecutive tilt
cycles, abrupt resumption of the on-surface activity and of the weak-contact
rearrangements occurs when the packing is subsequently inclined beyond the
previous maximal tilting angle. This behavior is compared with literature
results from numerical simulations of inclined 2D packings. It is also found
that the aged weak-contact configurations exhibit spontaneous restoration
towards the initial state if the packing remains at rest for tens of minutes.
When the packing is titled forth and back between zero and near-critical
angles, instead of ageing, the weak-contact configuration exhibits "internal
weak-contact avalanches" in the vicinity of both the near-critical and zero
angles. By contrast, the stronger-contact skeleton remains stable
Point Contact Spectroscopy of Superconducting Gap Anisotropy in Nickel Borocarbide Compound LuNi2B2C
Point contacts are used to investigate the anisotropy of the superconducting
energy gap in LuNi2B2C in the ab plane and along the c axis. It is shown that
the experimental curves should be described assuming that the superconducting
gap is non-uniformly distributed over the Fermi surface. The largest and the
smallest gaps have been estimated by two-gap fitting models. It is found that
the largest contribution to the point-contact conductivity in the c direction
is made by a smaller gap and, in the ab plane by a larger gap. The deviation
from the one-gap BCS model is pronounced in the temperature dependence of the
gap in both directions. The temperature range, where the deviation occurs, is
for the c direction approximately 1.5 times more than in the ab plane. The
\Gamma parameter, allowing quantitatively estimate the gap anisotropy by
one-gap fitting, in c direction is also about 1.5 times greater than in the ab
plane. Since it is impossible to describe satisfactorily such gap distribution
either by the one- or two-gap models, a continuous, dual-maxima model of gap
distribution over the Fermi surface should be used to describe
superconductivity in this material.Comment: 10 pages, 14 Figs, accepted in PR
NJL interaction derived from QCD: vector and axial-vector mesons
In previous works effective non-local NJL model was
derived in the framework of the fundamental QCD. All the parameters of the
model are expressed through QCD parameters: current light quark mass and
average non-perturbative . The results for scalar and pseudo-scalar
mesons are in satisfactory agreement to existing data. In the present work the
same model without introduction of any additional parameters is applied for a
description of masses and strong decay widths of - and -mesons. The
results for both scalar and vector sectors agree with data with only one
adjusted parameter , with account of average ,
which is obtained in a previous work as well.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
