    Restored Primary Molars in a Group of Children Presenting to the Pediatric Department of College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad in 2014-2015

    Objectives This study aimed to assess the distribution and classification of restored primary molars according to the tooth type, gender, jaw, quadrant, filling material and G.V. Black classification in children presenting to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, College of Dentistry, and University of Baghdad.Methods In this retrospective study, 1,341 patient records were retrieved from the archives of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and reviewed for the presence of restored primary molars. If present, they were classified according to the tooth type, gender, jaw, quadrant, filling material, and G.V. Black classification. Data were statistically analyzed by SPSS version 24 using z-statistic, with 0.05 level of significance.Results The frequency of filled primary second molars was significantly higher than that of primary first molars. The frequency of filled primary molars was the same in males and females. The frequency of restored primary molars in the mandible was significantly higher than that in the maxilla. Also, the frequency of restored primary molars in the right side was higher than that in the left side; however, this difference was not significant. According to the type of filling material used, amalgam was the most frequently used filling material followed by composite with no significant difference. According to the G.V. Black classification, class II had the highest percentage, followed by class I but the difference was not significant. Class V had the lowest percentage.Conclusion The current findings regarding the filled primary molars provided baseline data for future achievements in the respective department and comparison

    Realization of resistorless floating inductor using modified CDTA

    This paper briefly introduces a modified current differencing trans-conductance amplifier (M-CDTA) and its application in the simple realization of floating inductors. The proposed inductor is positive floating and lossless type offering the advantage of wider frequency bandwidth. The resulting equivalent inductance has been realized using one M-CDTA and one grounded capacitor and its inductance value can be adjusted electronically by proper tuning of the bias current. Results demonstrating the behavior of the circuit and its application confirming the theoretical analysis are verified through PSPICE simulations

    This essay investigates the multiple issues of feminism’s combat with the triple P’s, phallocentric disposition, patriarchal authority, and the paterfamilias. Researchers propose to apply the Theory of Community of Practice to the feminism writings by selecting three short stories of female writers. Researcher’s primary text includes Banana Yoshimoto’s Newlywed from Japan; Ding Ling’s When I was in Xia village from China and Krys Lee’s Temporary Marriage from Korea. After analyzing the domain of language, power and gender and also exploring the community of practice theory, Researcher dig out that the three aspects in researcher research area overlap and complement each other. The gender or the community in general contributes the other gender to accept its practices. The negligence, rebel or protest result in personal isolation and rebuke from society in general. But, exceptions do arise and mark themselves according to their capacity. A remedy is possible when all the lingering threads of language, power and gender and community practices are knitted in a harmonized pattern of social and linguistic applications.     Current Knowledge and Therapeutic Strategies of Herbal Medicine for Acute Diarrhea

    Diarrhea is a common gastrointestinal problem characterized by loose watery stool and mild to severe dehydration. Annually, about 1.7–5 billion new cases of diarrhea were reported. In developing countries, it is more common, where young kids have diarrhea approximately three times/year. In 2013, 1.26 million deaths occurred due to diarrhea, whereas in 1990, the figure was slightly higher (2.58 million). In 2012, diarrhea was the second most common reason of death (11%, n = 0.76 million) in children less than 5 years. Although various synthetic drugs are being prescribed as standard therapy for diarrhea, they have side effects. It is possible to prescribe the herbal medicine for diarrhea, which is safe and effective. In this study, medicinal plants discussed are proven to be scientifically active in diarrheal diseases. This study reviews about current medicinal plants used in the treatment of diarrhea. The use of medicinal plants for diarrhea results in improvement of the symptom. Moreover, studies on large scale are needed to characterize the beneficial role of medicinal plants in the treatment of diarrhea

Quarantine, restraints, and economic closure can change a whole psychological environment in all the countries having coronavirus. affect Although this situation should give several opportunities for personal growth and family unity, disadvantages may compensate for these benefits affecting the psychological health of children and adolescents. But in this difficult time anxiety, and stress are common due to lake of relationships and also due to a reduction in other opportunities other risk includes parents’ mental illness, domestic violence, and lack of treatment for the child during an illness. This was especially common in adolescents and children because they need special care thus causing disabilities, traumatic experiences, and mental health problems. With all these above-mentioned problems this was definitely a challenging time. In Italy where Covid-19 had severe effects on physical health but on mental health also and psychological issues are long-term and main challenges for our healthcare systems where mental health gain not as much important as other physical illnesses

    Phenylalanine, an amino acid, is a “building block” of protein. Phenylalanine is a component of food sources and also derived through supplementation. In current treatment, phenylalanine is prescribed as anti-depressant agent. The present study reviewed the possible antidepressant potential of phenylalanine. We reviewed data using the major databases, namely, Web of Science, SciFinder, Google Scholar, and PubMed. This manuscript provides a brief overview of the role of phenylalanine in depressive disorders. Phenylalanine possesses anti-depressant potential. Significant anti-depressant activities have been studied both in-vitro and in-vivo models. Based on current data, phenylalanine could be recommended as a potential candidate for clinical anti-depressant trials. Phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) deficiency results in intolerance to the dietetic consumption of the phenylalanine and a variety of syndromes such as deep and permanent logical disability, impaired cognitive development

    Forkhead box P3 gene expression and chromosomal analysis in a sample of Iraqi patients with multiple sclerosis

    Background: Multiple Sclerosis disease is a demyelination process which interferes with the neuronal signal transmission, thus leading to different cognitive and physical dysfunctions like optic neuritis, motor, sensory and coordination problems. Recently many researches have been directed toward studying the relation between some genes and multiple sclerosis. Among the important genes to be studied in multiple sclerosis is the forkhead box P3 gene expression. Objectives: The aims of the present work were to study the expression of forkhead box P3 gene by real time polymerase chain reaction, and to perform chromosomal analysis on the multiple sclerosis patients peripheral blood lymphocytes. Patients and methods: A case-control study was performed using real time polymerase chain reaction technique to measure the relative expression of forkhead box P3 gene in peripheral blood leukocytes of 25 newly diagnosed untreated multiple sclerosis patients and comparing them with that of 25 apparently healthy controls, in addition to performing chromosomal analysis on multiple sclerosis patients peripheral blood lymphocytes. Results: Significant down-regulation in forkhead box P3 gene was detected in multiple sclerosis patients in comparison to controls. Chromosomal analysis that was performed for multiple sclerosis patients revealed normal results. Conclusion: Multiple sclerosis is associated with significant change in forkhead box P3 gene expression that can be measured by real time polymerase chain reaction technique. Furthermore, multiple sclerosis is not associated with gross chromosomal abnormalities

    Background: Multiple sclerosis is a devastating central nervous system autoimmune disorder that is characterized by a series of inflammations, demyelinations, and neurodegenerations that affect the brain and spinal cord. The epigenetic studies specially micro Ribonucleic acid expression represent an important field of researches that probably uncover the obscurities behind the multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. Objectives: to study the expression of micro Ribonucleic acids (20a, 146a, 155, and 145) in multiple sclerosis patients by the use of real time polymerase chain reaction. Patients and Methods: A case-control study was performed using real time polymerase chain reaction technique to measure the relative expression of micro Ribonucleic acids (20a, 146a, 155, and 145) in peripheral blood leukocytes of 25 newly diagnosed untreated multiple sclerosis patients and comparing them with that of 25 clinically apparent healthy controls . Results: Studying of micro Ribonucleic acids expression in multiple sclerosis patients revealed a significant down-regulation in micro Ribonucleic acid-20a while up- regulation of micro Ribonucleic acid-155 expression in multiple sclerosis patients in comparison to controls. Micro Ribonucleic acids -146a and 145 were not associated with significant changes in its expression in multiple sclerosis patients in comparison to controls. Conclusion: multiple sclerosis is associated with significant changes in micro Ribonucleic acids expression including micro Ribonucleic acid-20a, and micro Ribonucleic acid-155 but not micro Ribonucleic acid 146a and-145 that can be measured by real time polymerase chain reaction technique

    Improvement of Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Plants with the Application of Nanoparticles

    Plants are under the threat of climatic changes and there is a reduction in productivity and deterioration in quality. The application of nanoparticles is one of the recent approaches to improve plant yield and quality traits. A number of nanoparticles, such as zinc nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), iron nanoparticles (Fe2O3 NPs), silicon nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs), cerium nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs), silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs), and carbon nanoparticles (C NPs), have been reported in different plant species to play a role to improve the plant physiology and metabolic pathways under environmental stresses. Crop plants readily absorb the nanoparticles through the cellular machinery of different tissues and organs to take part in metabolic and growth processes. Nanoparticles promote the activity of a range of antioxidant enzymes, including catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), in plant species, which in turn improve the growth and development under stressful conditions. The present review focuses on the mode of action and signaling of nanoparticles to the plant systems and their positive impact on growth, development, and ROS scavenging potential. The appropriate elucidation on mechanisms of nanoparticles in plants leads to better growth and yields under stress conditions, which will ultimately lead to increased agricultural production
