Abstract This study examines the predictions on sexual harassment experience towards job satisfaction and work stress among female employees at three universities in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. A questionnaire consisting of four sections has been used for this research. The four sections measured sexual harassment experience, job satisfaction, work stress and respondents information. A total of 1423 participants were selected through simple random sampling technique. Results show that more than half of the sample has had sexual harassment experience. Female employees aged between 26 to 39 years, married, and having length of service less than 5 years had more sexual harassment experiences. Another result showed a significant negative relationship between sexual harassment experience with job satisfaction and significant positive relationship between sexual harassment experience with work stress. Results also indicate that sexual harassment can be a predictor of job satisfaction and work stress

Migration has been part of the process that shapes the constituent of a particular nation or place. The movement of different people from various ethnicities and cultural background into a place has enabled the process of acculturation to occur. Such process would open up the opportunity for each ethnic toadapt or adopt certain trait of culture from other ethnic and thus producing a cultural mixture that is unique. Within the scope of this study, the acculturation of Baba Nyonya from the mixture of Malay and Chinese food culture and tradition is argued has helped to shape the Malacca food identity. However, the extent to which the phenomenon is occurring is not known, as there is no particular study has been looking into this subject. Thus, this study is designed to examine the process of Baba Nyonya food acculturation and their influence on the Malacca state food identity formation

The use of technologies such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is significant and has a profound effect on the Creative Design Process. The widely studied process in Creativity research such as Divergent Thinking (DT), Convergent Thinking (CT), and Analogical Thinking (AT) can describe the Creative Design during the process of producing and the implementation of ideas. The article employs the Descriptive Phenomenological method by collecting verbalized data from seven participants who are at the time of this study are enrolled in a Design Course, specifically Graphic Design. Three design projects are designed specifically to collect verbalized data through the think-aloud and stimulated recall method. Another data source that is used to support interpretation are screen recordings of the of the participants Creative Design process. The findings include seven themes that are associated with the experience of Creative Design and are used to describe the Creative Design Process with CAD through DT, CT, and AT and their relationship through the transformations of conceptual knowledge and technical skills. The article then discusses the role of Conceptual and Technical Knowledge that went through the process of selection and mapping in AT to induce DT and CT in ideation and its expansion through the process of learning. Finally, the article will present the limitations of this study and suggestions for future research

Furthermore, the present chapter provided a study of peace education program (PEP) for pre-school children aged (4–6) years in Oman. Where the program contains (28) training sessions are offered within (15) weeks at the rate of one hour per session. The researcher used a scale of two images, the behaviour of the children was measured before and after the experiment, where the researcher adopted the quasi experimental method, the sample consisted of (40) children in the experimental group and (40) children in the control group. In addition, the results of the study were in favour of the experimental group, where an improvement in their behaviour was observed after being enrolled in the program

Fear of failure among perfectionist students

    Get PDF
Fear of failure (FOF) has been reported as a construct that hinders individuals from achieving higher, working harder, and even moving from one stage of development to another. Studies indicated that university students with traits perfectionism tend to develop FOF, which prevented them for achieving better accomplishment in their academic life. In order to obtain further knowledge to curb FOF among this population, this study investigates which one of the three dimensions of perfectionism (self-oriented, other-oriented, socially prescribed) is the main predictor of FOF. 351 participants from the target population of 4,000 undergraduate students from UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were recruited via convenience sampling to provide us with their data through a Google Form. Perfectionism dimensions were measured by the multidimensional perfectionism scale and fear of failure by the performance failure appraisal inventory. The collected data was analyzed via simple and multiple regression by multiple regression technique, and the findings showed that self-oriented and other-oriented perfectionism did not significantly predict the fear of failure. However, socially prescribed perfectionism was the only significant predictor of the fear of failure among the perfectionism model, therefore indicating that it was the most significantly predictor as well. In conclusion, students are more likely to be afraid to fail when they believe that there is a social standard of perfection that they have to follow

The identification of depression symptoms among female drug user is crucial to prevent ‘dual diagnosis’ problem that can cause female drug users to be at risk of having relapse behavior, impulsive addiction behavior and transmission of infectious diseases especially blood related disease. This pilot study used quantitative method and data were collected via survey involving a set of close-ended questionnaire. M.I.N.I Neuropsychiatry Instrument was used to identify depression symptoms, while Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) instrument was used to determine types of specific substance abused among the female drug users. 31 of 180 female drug users were randomly selected using simple random sampling technique and data were descriptively analyzed. The findings indicated that 12 out of 31 respondents reported having depression symptom as outlined by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) such as prolonged sadness, moody or melancholy continuously for at least two weeks and had caused loss of interest in enjoying things they preferred to in the past and distributed their daily social activities. However, the remaining respondents did not report any depression symptom and it could be due to the current treatment and recovery process they undergo.  Methamphetamine drug abused such as syabu and ecstasy had negative effects to users’ mental health. Serious attention should be given to the female drug users who are suffering from dual diagnosis. The findings are crucial for the relevant and responsible authorities to providing clinical mental health screening for the addicts especially the female drug addicts.  An integrated mental health treatment among the female drug users with ‘dual diagnosis’ is recommended in the treatment and rehabilitation program.   Keywords: Depression, cure and care rehabilitation centre, drug, female drug users (FDU), symptom   Cite as: Ismail, R.
