    Get PDF
To evaluate the effects of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (TA) as a monotherapy of serous Pigment Epithelial Detachment (PED) associated with AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration), this study has been performed. Seventeen patients (19 eyes) with serous PED associated with AMD were observed. All patients received 0.1ml (4mg) of intravitreal TA. The mean follow-up period was 18 months. Re-attachment of serous PED was observed in 37% of cases to the end of follow-up. In other cases, the height and length of serous PED significantly decreased. Visual acuity remained stable in all cases. No evidence of RPE tear or CNV development were noted. Before TA administration, intraocular pressure (IOP) was 20.18 ± 2.58 mmHg however, after intravitreal TA, IOP increased gradually and reached its maximum of all period of observation (23.25±1.85mmHg) six months after injection (P=0.031). In 7 (37%) of the cases, progression to cataract was observed after treatment. After surgery, the visual acuity in all cases increased by 0.2 to 0.5. As a conclusion, intravitreal TA decreases of both the height and length of serous PED associated with AMD after 18 months follow-up in most cases. The presented data provides support for the hypothesis regarding the possibility of monotherapy of serous PED with intravitreal TA

Automation of complex text CAPTCHA recognition using conditional generative adversarial networks

With the rapid development of Internet technologies, the problems of network security continue to worsen. So, one of the most common methods of maintaining security and preventing malicious attacks is CAPTCHA (fully automated public Turing test). CAPTCHA most often consists of some kind of security code, to bypass which it is necessary to perform a simple task, such as entering a word displayed in an image, solving a basic arithmetic equation, etc. However, the most widely used type of CAPTCHA is still the text type. In the recent years, the development of computer vision and, in particular, neural networks has contributed to a decrease in the resistance to hacking of text CAPTCHA. However, the security and resistance to recognition of complex CAPTCHA containing a lot of noise and distortion is still insufficiently studied. This study examines CAPTCHA, the distinctive feature of which is the use of a large number of different distortions, and each individual image uses its own different set of distortions, that is why even the human eye cannot always recognize what is depicted in the photo. The purpose of this work is to assess the security of sites using the CAPTCHA text type by testing their resistance to an automated solution. This testing will be used for the subsequent development of recommendations for improving the effectiveness of protection mechanisms. The result of the work is an implemented synthetic generator and discriminator of the CGAN architecture, as well as a decoder program, which is a trained convolutional neural network that solves this type of CAPTCHA. The recognition accuracy of the model constructed in the article was 63 % on an initially very limited data set, which shows the information security risks that sites using a similar type of CAPTCHA can carry

Heat exchange in the human eye: a review

    Get PDF
Thermal homeostasis is required in order to ensure that the normal function of the human body is maintained under various environmental conditions. Various pathological processes impacting metabolism in tissues and organs (e.g., the human eye) are accompanied by changes in relative internal heat balance. Although numerous relevant studies have been conducted, heat exchange processes in the human eye have not been yet sufficiently investigated. Further research on the features of heat exchange in the eye is required not only to improve our knowledge in the field of physiology of the eye, but also to use the data obtained for developing novel advanced techniques for eye disease diagnosis and treatment

Thermophysical properties of the fe48cr15mo14c15b6y2 alloy in liquid state

In this work, the physical properties of Fe48Cr15Mo14C15B6Y2 alloy in liquid state at high temperature are studied. It was observed that the basic physical characteristics of the alloy, such as viscosity, electrical resistivity, and density, decrease with an increase of the temperature to 1700◦C. An abnormal increasing rate of viscosity for Fe48Cr15Mo14C15B6Y2 alloy in the temperature range from 1360 to 1550◦C was noted. The measurement of the electrical resistivity and density did not reveal any anomalies in the same temperature range. © 2021 by the authors. First measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters using neutrinos and antineutrinos by NOvA

The NOvA experiment has seen a 4.4σ signal of ν̄e appearance in a 2 GeV ν̄μ beam at a distance of 810 km. Using 12.33×1020 protons on target delivered to the Fermilab NuMI neutrino beamline, the experiment recorded 27 ν̄μ→ν̄e candidates with a background of 10.3 and 102 ν̄μ→ν̄μ candidates. This new antineutrino data are combined with neutrino data to measure the parameters |Δm322|=2.48-0.06+0.11×10-3 eV2/c4 and sin2θ23 in the ranges from (0.53-0.60) and (0.45-0.48) in the normal neutrino mass hierarchy. The data exclude most values near δCP=π/2 for the inverted mass hierarchy by more than 3σ and favor the normal neutrino mass hierarchy by 1.9σ and θ23 values in the upper octant by 1.6σ

We report results from the first search for νμ→νe transitions by the NOvA experiment. In an exposure equivalent to 2.74×1020 protons on target in the upgraded NuMI beam at Fermilab, we observe 6 events in the Far Detector, compared to a background expectation of 0.99±0.11(syst) events based on the Near Detector measurement. A secondary analysis observes 11 events with a background of 1.07±0.14(syst). The 3.3σ excess of events observed in the primary analysis disfavors 0.1π<δCP<0.5π in the inverted mass hierarchy at the 90% C.L

Search for multimessenger signals in NOvA coincident with LIGO/Virgo detections

    Get PDF
Using the NOvA neutrino detectors, a broad search has been performed for any signal coincident with 28 gravitational wave events detected by the LIGO/Virgo Collaboration between September 2015 and July 2019. For all of these events, NOvA is sensitive to possible arrival of neutrinos and cosmic rays of GeV and higher energies. For five (seven) events in the NOvA Far (Near) Detector, timely public alerts from the LIGO/Virgo Collaboration allowed recording of MeV-scale events. No signal candidates were found
